In case the thread title wasn't enough to let you know INFINITY WAR SPOILERS ARE ALLOWED AS WILL BE SPOILERS FOR ANY FUTURE MCU MOVIES.

For those of you whose curiosity got the better of you, this one post will be spoiler free, but no guarantees for any that follow.

Anyway, I ended up seeing this movie with my dad and kid brother, and once we got out I ask my dad what he thought of it, his only response was "Aren't Infinity Stones from Harry Potter?"

Well, I haven't seen it, but I want to know if it's worth seeing it on theater instead of... uh, acquiring it the other way.

Depends on whether you've seen the previous MCU movies or not. I've seen some critics describe this film less as a movie with a beginning middle and end of a story and more as a sequence of events. The plot doesn't really begin in this movie and it doesn't really end here either, so if you watch it without watching the previous movies you're going to have no idea what's going on or who the characters are. Infinity War assumes you already know who everyone is and does very minimal introduction for everyone aside from Thanos.

My two-word reaction to Infinity Wars: Goddamnit, Peter.

I did actually enjoy the movie, though I was hoping for a bit more character interaction. I suppose they didn't really have time for it, though.
I was left with some questions, like... if Dr. Strange and Bruce could portal directly to Tony's location, why couldn't they do the same to find Vision?

Edit: Oh, and Thanos. That's not how economics works. It takes people to make resources. The answer to overpopulation is restructuring and boosting of birthrates (if the population is aging is the problem) not killing off a random half the population. That would just cause more deaths, in the exactly predictable manner we saw in the stinger. And what if you killed off too many important people in the agriculture industry, or transportation? Congratulations, you just murdered most of a planet through starvation and set back it's civilization centuries of potential progress while it attempts to get back on track. You fucking idiot.

I'm pretty sure that someone on the staff has played Dark Souls.

On the subject of Souls, what is the Soul Stone actually supposed to do?

A quick google gets this article:
    https://www.google.com/amp/comicbook.com/marvel/amp/2018/04/26/marvel-soul-stone-infinity-war/

So it can store souls within itself, allowing the user to access their memories. This... has implications for the sequel. I'd be willing to bet that The Snap was a mass reaping, and all those souls are stored within the Stone, waiting for the heroes to bust them out, rather than undoing it through time travel as I thought would happen before just now.

However, this also means that Thanos is an even bigger threat now, as the comic version gives the user the ability to read the memories of stored souls, aka, in this case, half the universe.

That's also a possible weakness though. Trying to sift through that many memories sounds like a great way to suffer from information overload.

The movie only says that it grants power over all living beings, which presumably is how the gauntlet acquires its soul-reaping power. I imagine they left the specifics deliberately vague so they can do a big reveal in the sequel that the stones can revive everyone killed by them.

Anyways, can I just say? Holy shit Red Skull, you chilled the fuck out in the last fifty-some years. Was not expecting to ever see him again.

This is pretty acurate. It's a two part story so go in knowing things won't be entirely neatly wraped up at the end. And if you haven't seen any mcu films yet you'll probably not have much fun with this since the movie doesn't waste much time explaining stuff. At the very least I'd recomend watching thor3, ultron/civil war, bp, guardians1, and maybe homecoming and dr strange befor you go to see infinity war.

Anyway, I liked the movie. Thanos was pretty cool and as a whole it's entertaining. Even though I haven't seen that many mcu movies (or read any marvel comics) I know enough about the setting to follow along.
I myself didn't have a huge emotional investment in most characters, but I did see some people openly crying/cheering so if you're a fan it's probably worth seeing.

In the original, the Soul Stone was the key to defeating Nebula (who got the gauntlet from Thanos after his Hubris let him lose it). Adam Warlock had some sort of connection to the stone and was able to use that to uh influence it and take it from her or something. Since Adam Warlock isn't a thing yet (waiting for GoG3?) maybe Gamora will play this role? Or maybe something completely different.

Anyways, I loved the film and thought it was amazing.

Him showing up was a huge surprise to me, because I'm sure I heard Hugo Weaving say in an interview that he hadn't liked his part in the MCU and didn't want Red Skull to come back.

Adam is a thing, Stinger in GotG2. And will be playing a role in Avengers: Endgame. So yeah, can't wait to see that.

Oh yeah, that part was great.
Although, as much as I like the new hammer/axe I feel it somewhat undercuts the character progression thor went through in the last movie. After learning he is indeed "god of hunder, not the god of hammers" the first thing he does is make himself a new hammer. That's a minor detail though imho, perhaps he just feels more comfortable focusing his powers through a weapon.

I think it was a damned shame that Proxima Midnight got taken out like a punk. Otherwise I think they were very good at being Lieutenants, commanding ground forces and being difficult but not impossible to overcome challenges for the heroes. I do wonder how the goblin one got into Wakanda before the shield was dropped however.

I enjoyed it. I liked Thanos, other than being batshit crazy, he had presence.

(There's a bunch of reasons why what he's doing is wrong, mostly to do with the fact that Malthus was wrong.)

One thing that annoyed me was the crazy camera angles and some silly staged scenes. One where Tony Stark and Steven Strange are looking at each other eye to eye directly across on the spaceship comes to mind. Then they back out and you find out that Robert Downey Jr. is shorter than Benedict Cumberbatch and the implied equal height could not have happened naturally. The fact that the both of them were able to keep straight faces when Tony Stark was on a box, is a testament to their acting skill. Other scenes in the montage with Gamora and Thanos come to mind, forced perspective to keep both their faces in screen immediately made me think they were doing scaling shenanigans so that the actor could actually appear in the movie.

Now what will really annoy me is that they'll simply undo the entire story arc with the next movie.

So the Russo's confirmed in an interview that Valkyrie is alive, and that some of the Asgardians escaped in escape pods, only those that stayed on the ship were wiped out, Balance and all.

Anyone got anything to say about that?

I'm glad she's still around, I found her entertaining. Perhaps we'll see her in the second part.

That's the thing with learning more about a medium and how it is produced. While it lets you appreciate the nuances of it more, it also forces you to notice all the mistakes that were made in its creation. Perhaps I'm just not very observant, but all those things you mentioned didn't even register for me although they were undoubtedly annoying for anybody who is more versed in filmmaking than I am.

I was mostly spending my focus on not peeing myself as I waited for the stinger, so yeah unfortunately I missed it.

edit- I did however notice that the credits lacked much of the intricacy of the other MCU movies.

I've seen it twice now, and enjoyed it quite a lot. I don't know if it's my favorite Marvel film, but it is certainly the most breathtakingly ambitious film. In fact, I'd say it's perhaps one of the most ambitious films ever, to have the guts to bring together 10 years of cinema history, and wipe it away with (literal) a snap of the fingers. Off hand, The Empire Strikes Back comes close in terms of upsetting the apple cart for film. Though a few others, like say the Lord of the Rings trilogy, or maybe the 10 Commandments come close it duplicating it in scope.

Also... man DC is done. Like they will never make a film as great and ambitious as this one.

    Meh.

I mean, I see what they're trying to do with Strange - notice that he didn't have to break the Eye to get the Stone out, he had already removed it by the time it came up. Whole thing is a Thanatos (hah) Gambit.

Thing is, it's just... kinda over-dramatic. Unless they give a really damn good reason why Strange + Iron Man + several other heroes together can't thoroughly murderize a Gauntlet-less Thanos, the smarter thing to do would to just be a goddamn adult and just break the news to what'shisface that punched Thanos in advance. "Hey, sorry, bad news, Dremora's dead, we know this because time travel. Get all your rage and mourning done now, because in ten minutes I need you to not punch him in the face once we have him asleep, 'kay?"

Also for all their super-advanced tech the Wakandas cannot into siege warfare apparently.

That was pretty strange to see. Especially since Thanos' forces (and if not them then Thanos himself) could have probably overcome a more competent defence as well which would have made them seem more threatening. And the heroes could still have had their time to shine even if the battle had been more of an actual battle and less of an all out brawl. I don't know what is planned for the next movie, so maybe they had good reasons for doing it that way, but it definitely felt strange.
