Comic books are a small window into a world which is, in theory, a twisted reflection of our own. Where we don't know the context that laws were made with, or enforced. But, yes, I agree, it's often 'bullshit'. :)

    God.

What, you never wondered why it took God five days to make Earth and only a day for the rest of the universe? God was baked.

As for having it be on a separate limb - granted it’s possibly unnecessary, but being able to turn it gives better peripheral vision.

Manga Khan might have incentive to make the Russians disappear and lie about it.

New theory: Dox expected something like this to happen and wanted to get rid of Khan by making Paul aware if the issue.

Link goes to another site SV if I recall correctly perhaps that should be edited to point to local copy on this site?
I'm sorry, but what? super strength should be easily convertible to cash as long as you're willing to be at least semi public with it there is a lot of expensive equipment that is used to do heavy lifting and yea in ports and places where this is done routinely they're just going to stick with the cranes they're already using but for places where the equipment has to be brought in for just one or two days worth of work then taken out again like construction on high rise buildings... if there was a person who could do the job of the heavy equipment faster and easier I'm sure they'd be willing to pay that person %80 of what they'd have to pay to rent the equipment they no longer have to rent

or ship breaking as I could swear he discussed with the terror twins or what ever they were called

    Thank you, updated.
A crane can be set to safely lift standard crates all over the world, and be operated by anyone who is qualified. A single person with super strength does an eight hour shift with... Some sort of special harness? Then goes home, and you're back to using a crane. Compare that to a telepath who can do a few hours work for the CIA each month and be well paid for it.

The ship-breaking thing is doable because they can pile the ships up and have the super strong people smash them apart without specialised equipment because they're just scrapping them anyway.

I did say the shipyard would just continue to use the crane but what about jobs where the crane is brought in to do one or two days worth of work then has to be removed like taking construction materials up a high rise building

jobs where the crane isn't used day after day after day but for a short duration before it has be removed

or a heavy piece of equipment needs to be moved in tight confines that to get a crane or other heavy equipment in place to do the job would mean putting a bit hole in a wall moving the thing then fixing the hole in the wall

sure these kinds of jobs aren't your standard come into work do the job go home and repeat day in day out but because of the temporary nature they typically pay a lot more than a standard job does

A universal remedy for your troubles.

This made me think of this:

    Trunks: I have an uncle?

    Vegeta: You had an uncle.

    Also.

    Gohan:... I need an adult...

Krillin, Vegeta, Guru: I am an adult.

Don't know why I said the second one, but I did and I'm not regretting it.

Oh, that could work. Unfortunately there isn't a superpowered labour exchange. An individual would have to get a manager, and then that manager would have to be able to create that job.

You also have to remember that true super strength is pretty uncommon, and the strength/flight combo that makes heavy lifting super easy is even more so.

Why does your name sound like male genitalia?

Seriously does anyone know why the people called Richard are sometimes called Dick?

Calling someone Freddie or Fred even if their name is Frederick makes sense, but calling someone Dick when they're named Richard really doesn't make sense to me.

    Just realised something.

The Russians were the first to get a guy in space and now their the first to get a fleet in space.

Guess they have a head start on the whole space fleet thing now too.

which just means that the supply side is virtually unique and can command a price nearly equal to the equipment cost that is being saved if not more than in some circumstances where that equipment would take longer to get into place than it would take the super strong to do the job and they're being paid extra for a rush job

just about any super power can be turned into cash if it's remotely useful for anything true it might take getting a manager to scout out jobs for it but if there were enough super powered people willing to do an honest job to make a lot of money then a system would arise to support it over time
    draining?

Converting super-strength to cash is incredibly easy. You gear down an electric generator so one hard turn of the exercise bike wheels causes many fast spins of the generator, regulate the output, feed it into the power grid, and get cut a check.

I'm thinking you go for the construction angle, but go after the jobs in remote and/or hard to access areas where bringing in heavy construction equipment would be a giant pain in the ass.

Except it was that SI that said that was how it worked. We've seen from the people the SI and Graven assimilated that that's not really accurate. We know from the comics that assimilation explicitly does not release the soul so it very much isn't murder. This is like getting someone drunk / roofieing them and then saying since they seemed into it, it's not rape.

Where did you get the idea that the League and Diana were assimilated? Tangseid use a ritual combining magic and the Orange light to fully rewire their desires.

Assimilation is a wholly different process, in terms of results, method and context.

I'd say its more like torturing them until they break, then teaching them to behave in ways he wanted them to and then saying because they want what he is doing to them it's not rape, but I don't think you're all that far off.

It can also be considered an extreme version of old timey electro shock therapy or lobotomy, where you tended to end up brain dead more often than not.

So it's like having your spouse, or some random person, committed because you found out they were a homosexual, having them subjected to electro shock until they can't think of any homosexual activities without feeling pain and then having sex with them, which they now believe is the right thing to do after having electricity shoot through their brain.

So it's an extremely disgusting, immoral and unnecessary thing to do.

The sad thing is that things like this happened in the past and still happen now in certain areas of the world.

I'm unsure where 'magic' comes into it...

Best as I can tell from reading the various Kelly's Eye web bits the Eyes are (probably) alien, and therefore alien tech, not magic. This means they'll likely work off Earth, which is a relevant issue. And, makes Evil OL even more dangerous.

But, long-running boy's (adventure) comic stories often had multiple writers, who may or may not be using a common 'bible' - I'll bet you some of them wrote stuff under serious time pressure, possibly while half-asleep and/or half-drunk. :)

Reading about the comics, some writers were just really pleased to get to write stuff that wasn't (WW2) war stories or football (soccer)... The girl's comics were even worse... (Some might have read the comics their brother got. :) )

You might find it interesting to read the Stross novel Glasshouse, which might have touched on these sort of issues...

It could be an alien magic artifact, or a combination of alien tech and magic.

Magic and magical artefacts may be able to work away from a magic rich planet, just not that easily.

The Eye may not be able to be used in deep space, but if its on a planet, even a magically weak one, it could be used.

Hmm. Interesting idea... So, maybe it was an alien magic artefact that was reasonably tolerable until it got to Earth, where it became hideously dangerous?

Might be a good reason why some aliens have a really hard time with Earth...

What makes you think it wasn't a corruptive and evil thing even before it got to Earth?

Granted from the context of this story I think that Adoms old comrade, Tezumak, had an armor made from alien tech that was magically altered by Aztec, or whatever South American society he came from, sorcerers to be powered by child sacrifices, so you may not be completely wrong.

The two Eyes could have been used as a form of prison rehabilitation devices. The Left one allowing the wearer to alter the mindset of violent criminals to not be violent anymore and the Right one allowed them to not be harmed by the prisoners if they escaped. Then the Left one was either damaged and became corrupt, or was made to be corruptive to its user, maybe after winding up on Earth.

Zoat mentioned this but I'll go into a bit more detail: That would work if the two storylines were completely independent, but they're not. Their timelines tick along in sync with each other and while events in one don't necessarily impact the other the common baseline of events shared between them doesn't get explained twice. If you were to just read Renegade, or if you were to read it separately instead of woven together, you'd be missing out on a lot of the timeline.

And considering how often there are one-shots from other perspectives, it would rather suck to try to keep up with a bunch of different tracks and pay enough attention to know to look for more when a new one-shot is posted. Threadmarks make a good balance between following along and re-reading.

The Thanagarians make good use of that design by flying towards opponents headfirst, protecting the exposed areas while minimizing cross-section.

Of course... that, y'know... requires a helmet...
