Context for those who create e-drama instead of following it?

 

One of the big YouTubers recently got a 'strike' to his channel, as from 'three strikes' system. He received it over a video that was posted years ago, and contained a clip of four people in Disney Mascot costumes kicking the snot out of a road rager who cut them off to stop their vehicle. Someone reported the video as 'violent and disturbing' content, and YouTube's automatic algorithms deleted the video in question and slapped him with a strike, which are permanent and cannot ever be removed from your channel. Get enough strikes, and they'll just straight up delete your channel.

The issue is that the whole system is completely automated, which means that a random report or series of reports can do permanent damage to a content creator's channel. There is a 'manual review' appeal system, wherein a YouTube employee is called in to watch the video and make a judgement call on the content report, ostensibly to reverse an unfair claim. In reality, YouTube has NEVER reversed the decision of their algorithm, and that's even if you can get them to respond - most creators aren't important enough to leverage an acknowledgement of their appeal.

Moist, the YouTuber in question, called out in a Twitter video that Markiplier had a video with the same clip, but had not received a strike, nor had the original post of the clip, or any of its memetic derivative videos. Having seen the issue, Mark issued his own Twitter statement about it, and was promptly slapped with a strike on the video in question.

All of this is a big issue that's been brewing with YouTube's unfair rules applications and other problems with the algorithm in general. Mark recently posted a video breaking down all the issues, so check that out if you want more info.

Approximately the worst starting image ever, but my camera has flown off to report to Soundwave and the only other option is a cheap webcam from 2012. Basically just a quick shoop for planning purposes, but it ended up being funny, and looking relatively realistic despite a couple of fringes I couldn't get rid of on her Ununtrium Hyper Hypo-armordermic, so I figured I'd share. Can't just let that drill tank go unused, now can I?
