There is something about the way that the apes throw themselves on the ground that seems to stir some distant memory of young play-fights between littermates in the cats. The lead cat finds herself drawn to the leader, which she bends down to sniff- Once... Twice... And then pick up in a fierce hug and greet with a long, slow lick across the face.

The apes seem unsure how to respond to this new development, so the cats leave them behind with a couple of adolescents watching over them. It wouldn't do for the first animals to submit to their authority be eaten while they were gone or to wander off and get lost, after all. After a moment of consideration, the girls decide to hunt some fresh meat for their new 'pets' rather than feed them with their dead comrades, some deep and buried instinct telling them that doing so would be the worst kind of faux pass.

You didn't just give people back the gifts they brought to you, after all.

It doesn't take long for the girls to find and dispatch some food. A couple smaller boars suffice- Nothing like the great behemoth they had caught earlier, but enough to feed them and their dependants for a day at least.

The apes look at the meat awkwardly, and one or two poke at it slightly.

I have no idea what to do now, but I am pretty sure the ape who got licked had a brown pants moment.

 

If they're anything like real world apes, then they should be omnivore. maybe it's just that since they're such poor hunters, they never had the opportunity to taste meat before.

Yeah. That was a Double, it should have gone much better.

 

The double went towards making the Apes take 'Being Pets' way better than most things would.
