Though that's also an incomplete adaptation of the light novel, which is a complete (but I think untranslated) adaptation+completion of the much more ultranationalistic original web novel.
Manga's translated, though, and the character design is much more distinctive (I think it's better in the manga) than in the anime. Well, save for Itami, Leilei, Tuka, and Rory looking exactly the same.
I don't actually know anything about the state of translation for the light novels. Haven't dedicated the effort to reading light novels since awhile back, with...Legend of the Moonlight Sculptor and Log Horizon.
Yup, read the manga. I have this idea floating on my mind where I do a Gate+ZnT crossover, but also some other more exotic stuff. One of my peeves with Gate is that there's only one Empire on the other side... It would take an absurd amount of time for an human empire to consolidate that way, and they obviously would need a reason to be in Roman/middle ages. Thus ZnT.
It is mentioned to be one single government over the humans, with lesser subordinate kingdoms and other race tribes which aren't even counted as people (I believe on the chapter of the bunny Assassin)
