    Not really.
    For one, though I've bought the books I wouldn't exactly call the Dire Saga famous.
    And for a second, the fanfic came first.

    Fun side note: Christopher G. Nuttall (Schooled in Magic) posts the beta draft of his books on SpaceBattles as they're being written and takes them down before they're published. I've never checked how much they change from the forum version to the book version, though.
