Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com.
Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
If you wish to change your username, please ask via conversation to tehelgee instead of asking via my profile. I'd like to not clutter it up with such requests.
either the thread doesn't attract readers or the story isn't cool. in the former case, it's about thread name, fandom, and tagging: an interesting name and a popular series does the trick. remember there are lots of stories on the list; a bland or vague thread title doesn't stand out. a good reputation helps, too.
content-wise, the first chapter needs to be on point. always. it needs a good narrative voice; purpose; and a reason for the reader to care. for example, throwing your protagonist into a new world isn't interesting by itself. the new world needs to be enticing--maybe there are superpowers or a hot girl or there's some exotic danger.
grammar is a given. it's sometimes confusing to write narration so it's fine to say it aloud to oneself to figure out the sentence structure. It's also fine to read your work to yourself (from the start if you need to) and see if it feels like good narration. if you find yourself repeating words or sentence patterns, try and mix your approach.
you don't always need to put "he said" or another attribution. it's easy for people to follow a two-person dialogue. if there are more people involved, change the verbs. knowing how to do dialogue structure is a necessary skill if you want to get anywhere with your writing.
first-person is common on this site since it's easy to use. when you use first-person, there's no need to attribute your thoughts. your narration is literally yourself thinking. it's not useful for everything, so consider how you can leverage your narration type in your story. (it's also bad form to change narrative types in a story)
