    Character Sheet
    Age- 16
    Name- ???
    Gender- Male

    Stats-
Mind C: Well, you're a sharp one for your age, aren't you?
    Body C++: You're a capable enough lad.
Spirit D: Eh. You're more concerned with yourself then the spirits.

    Perks-

Unremarkable (Hunting): Both 'Success' and 'Failure' are lowered one rank when you perform an action relating to this skill- Thus, what would before be a regular success or a minor failure is now a minor success, what would be an amazing success would be a normal success, and what would be crushing failure will be an off day.

Secondary Objectives: You don't always get what you set out to done. But you almost always do get [something] done. Unless you roll 'Terrible' or lower, you will always get -something- from your personal actions.

You were born kicking and screaming, in the dim recesses of a dingy cave. An ancient, withered crone quickly wrapped you up in a rank and foul smelling fur, before passing you back to a younger woman. The younger woman held you tight to her chest, and you screamed in anger at her- Only to be stopped by the splashing of a single tear on your face. You look up into a rictus of pain and grief, as the woman- Girl, really- Hands you back to the old woman.

The old woman carries you out of the cave. The girl doesn't follow- And when the young man, waiting by the cave's entrance, looks hopefully at the crone he is answered with a gimlet-eyed stare and a slow shake of the head.

You learn later that the girl had been your mother, and that she was wounded mortally bringing you into the world. And yet... You can't find it in yourself to be sad. If your mother had died so that you could be born, then that was fine- You would rather be alive then have died in the place of a girl you had never known.

You don't share that thought with your father- Mostly because you're certain he would disagree with it, to be honest. You hear stories of the man he once was, sometimes- Kadlok Oaken-Bow, the brave hunter who took a dragon's head to his wife's father in exchange for her hand. You've even seen the trophy skull, with it's great fangs and curling horns. But now, the man, once the greatest hunter and warrior of your tribe, is nothing but an empty shell. He brings the tribe game regularly, but where the spinsters claim there was once joyful boasting and challenges you can only see calculation and a sense of duty.

When you reach ten summers in age,
[X] Your Father begins bringing you out on his hunts with him. You watch and learn as he stalks his prey- the way to track, to shoot, and to clean, joint and skin the corpse.
[X] You grow sick and week for a period lasting close to a month. The tribe's Shaman watches over you, and when you grow better he takes you as his apprentice in exchange.

Despite your father's best efforts, you are a decidedly unremarkable hunter. Oh, you're not bad- You learn all of his tricks and a few more besides, and you perform acceptably whenever he 'Tests' you on your knowledge or skills. But at the same time, where the other children can boast of their best catches? The only thing you could possibly brag about is that you never come home without something in tow.

    [Gained Perk- Unremarkable (Hunting)]
    [Gained Perk- Secondary Objectives]

All told, you think you're probably a bit of a disappointment to your father- Not that you could really tell either way. His cold, grey eyes watch you without any expression of joy or anger at what you've done. After a few years, you learn to deal with the silent sense of judgement that looms over you whenever he's around.

You have more luck with the other boys your age, who have apparently discovered that it's handy to have someone around who can both hold his own, and yet never be able to overshadow their own accomplishments. You... Don't think you're happy with that, honestly. You'd much rather have something to your name, like Jaek's trapping of a cave bear inside a clever trap, or Oren's 'Pet' vipers which he raised from the egg and milks for venom.

And so when your Proving Day comes, you feel... Nervous. Traditionally, the Proving is a way to show that one has something of worth to the clan. The other boys have either passed their tests, or are almost certain to pass them later- Anyone truly incompetent tended to die as a child, rather then making it to the age of proving.

You are to hunt down some sort of dangerous creature, and kill it for the glory of the tribe. Three of the clan's elder hunters will be watching your hunt, and will vouch for you if you succeed in your task.

If you fail, they will return with word of your demise.

Fortunately, you've been planning for this day. Almost obsessively so, in fact.
[X] You have tracked a pregnant Jungle-Cat to her lair. She is heavily gravid, and so will be slow and cumbersome- But still enough of a threat that you will get a decent showing in. You will kill her, and in so doing remove a serious threat to the tribe's well being with little risk to yourself.
[X] There is an ancient ruin, on the banks of the river, where prey comes to feed. You've found a little spot where you can sit, safely sheltered from the winds and the elements for hours on end. You will wait there until something worth killing shows up, lured by water and fresh meat.
[X] You've heard the other hunters talking about unusual signs and markings in the wood. You yourself have seen some of them, and think that you may be able to track them to their source. ... Not that you actually know what their source is, mind you. It's probably dangerous somehow?

    Mystery box, HO!

Kind of curious what the crit (if it actually was one) did.
Was that what gave us our second perk or does it mean all of these options potentially have awesome rewards or something?

It doesn't take you too long to find the first of the strange trail-signs when you look for them. Here a length of some strange fiber, there a tree hacked off near the base and no log to be seen. There's also the occasional chunk of half-rotted, putrefying skin stuck to thorns- Like it had been ripped straight from a decayed, rotten corpse.

Tracking these signs, well, that's a bit harder. They seem... Chaotic. Jumbled. The trail turns back on itself, loops around, and even seems to disappear outright for some length of time. Eventually you manage to trace it to a large cave entrance, near to a series of cliffs and waterfalls where the river pools and spills over a natural basin.

There is a vile stench emmiting from the cave, and a semi-regular beat of rock against rock. After a moment, you steel yourself and enter.

It is dark, at first, but after a moment your eyes adjust. Glowing bugs wriggle across the walls between crags and moss, illuminating the tunnel before you. One foot after another, you trail your way into the depths of the earth.

The stench grows over time, until you turn around a corner and come face to face with a decayed and shambling corpse. It holds a large club with a strange, crescent-moon like head- And it's within ten paces of you. Fortunately, it doesn't attack. Actually, it doesn't do much but generally stand around and look at you stupidly before it turns back to the wall and begin chipping away at it with it's strange club. You walk past it warily, making sure to have an arrow drawn and at least five paces between the you and it at all times- But it's keeps to it's task, rather then attacking you or otherwise bothering you in any way.

You suppose you should probably feel grateful for that, but you're still kind of weirded out by the fact that a rotting old corpse was moving under it's own power. You'd always kind of ignored the shaman's tales of spirits, having more important things to do- But right now, you kind of wish that you'd listened closer. Maybe then you'd have some idea what was going on.

There are two more of the shambling not-dead, as you move further down. You consider just shooting one of them and bringing the head back, but something stops you- You're not sure what. It probably wouldn't be a good trophy anyway- There's no honor in killing something that was already dead. Could you even kill something already dead?

Eventually, you come to a great chamber in the depths. Half a dozen Not-Dead chip nooks in the walls, and a small construction in the center muffles annoyed mumblings and mutterings. Curious, you move in closer.

"...kick ME out, eh? 'Unnatural', my arse- No sense in letting able bodies go to waste just because they happen to be dead. Well, I'll show them all! Build my own damned kingdom, let people come to me-" It's at this point that the speaker steps out of the hut and sees you. A skinny and malnourished young man with long, greasy hair that looks like he hadn't had a decent meal or bathed in weeks. You'd probably wrinkle your nose, but the stench isn't that much worse then the Not-Dead were.

The tableu holds for a moment, before the filthy young man breaks it. "You're not one of mine. Um. I suppose that makes you one of the local savages then, doesn't it? Oh dear, I'd thought I went far enough into the wilds that there wouldn't be anyone nearby."

    [] What do/say?
