Indeed, the winning live dances and songs are set. Runners can't make up their own. However it seems like some umas do the idol thing separately from racing and they can have their own songs and dances there but all the race ones are set by the uma racing association or something.

All umas are taught both the winning and backup dancer routines for all songs.

Hell I don't think that the girls even make up their own dances; for one, all the girls need to know it, so winning dances are probably quite set. For her personal song/dance which she needs to qualify for the Tiara races, a display of gymnastics is not what I think anyone is looking for. Half of the point of using Polish songs is that she comes across as more expressive there.

While it seems to be the case that most of the songs are set, and it makes sense, because there is no possible way for the backups to learn a new dance for each individual competitor in case they win, there apparently is some cases of the runners having their own thing, like Oguri Cap, but that might have been because it was at a local racecourse.

What I'm going with for this fic is that most of the winning live songs are set, with the exception of the Triple Tiara races (maybe QE2, or other races dedicated to fillies), where the winning uma has a solo performance. This is running with the idea that the distinction between colts and fillies is expressed in pure runners vs umadols, so the latter winning one of their dedicated races basically gives them a big stage to help kick up their idol career/profile, hence a requirement for qualifying for the Triple Tiara races being having a solo performance of your own, something that Shirogane initially had trouble coming up with.

This also somewhat explains why the 'fillies' are generally seen as weaker (and usually are), because they are splitting more of their training efforts into the idol/performance side of things, and probably also need to have more time dedicated to their appearance or public persona. The 'colts', being for full on jock, might see this as bit of a waste of time, while the 'fillies' could say the 'colts' are unsophisticated meatheads. Shirogane was put into the 'colt' class because she wasn't initially expecting to try for the 'filly' races, even though she's technically a 'mare'.

It's the explanation that makes the most sense to me to distinguish between the irl colt and filly races, as since all umas are female it would not really make sense for these two categories to exist otherwise.

That makes me wonder about any horses that might've been particularly close with the IRL Shirogne variant.
 
I was randomly reminded of the "STEVEN! I thought you were dead!" video

And am now imagining a sleeping Shiro is also deathly still, but for the slightest shifting as she breathes.

It's probably been mentioned before, but the visual is funny to me.

If she's a heavy sleeper, by chance, then she might accidentally scare any friends if she takes a nap, as she doesn't respond to anything and hardly looks like she's moving.

Unrelated note: ... d'ya think Horse Shirogane was smart enough to want a toilet or some other designated waste area?

If they are calling her "bell tree", then they probably hung bells everywhere on her. It still didn't work. Hanging bells on her ears and tail just taught her to keep them steady all the time...and this is why the Uma version is unnaturally still.

Actually I have a question regarding this. If Grass and El Condo are going to be joining the Triple Classic Crown races, that could dramatically change the results. Those two are arguably the strongest racers in their generation, even discounting Shiro it's likely one of them would clinch first in the three races (except Kikuko Sho, where Shiro has a very good shot at 1st). Just going to wonder how you'll handle that, since it seems like you try to keep to the IRL version of the race, except also Shiro so far.

This story is not real life. Moreover that quote does in fact not answer my question. It just says that the OP was considering whether or not to go ahead with it, or how they would handle it. It's been a month since that quote, which means OP has had a month to think about it.

Grass Wonder getting injured and having to skip it is a convenient way to exclude her, if WrandmWaffles wants to go that path. I highly doubt they'll give a draw though for El. El was not in the race IRL and Waffles has generally been going "IRL version of race, except what if Shiro was also in it" as a general policy so far. Throwing in El and maybe Grass will throw a wrench in it. At the very least it's unlikely Seiun will get any wins if they join, because she's a strong racer but she's in the middle of the pack when it comes to the Golden Generation. And that's ignoring any interference Shiro might add.

Hmm, if Shirogane has a reputation for racing tons and singing like a robot at the winning lives, the fans at the tiara races might be pretty annoyed to see her show up. "What's this runnin horse doing at our dedicated singin horse event??"

Would be kinda funny if she just kills it in a solo and shuts them up.
 
Well considering she almost always comes in second she's actually one of the primary singers in the winning live, rather than just the backup backgrounders since 1st, 2nd, and 3rd get the primary stage attention. She's just not the "center" as that role is for the race winner

So the audience is no doubt quite familiar with her by now
 
I'll need to go looking back but I swear that I remember something about one of the golden gen warning El about missing or having incorrect documentation for the triple crown and if she doesn't have it in order she would miss out on the triple crown

Very much so! They're called Dead Heats, and they still happen every so often.

Most infamously in Japanese racing, one of the Triple Tiaras, Apapane, has a contention for her title because one of her "wins" was in fact a tie.

Isn't slow motion eliminating them, or are they still happening in horse racing? The Spring Tenno Sho was callable despite it looking like a dead heat, with 3cm of difference between Croix du Nord and Wurttemburg; on a related note, Kitasan Black would like for his kids to stop winning.
