On a Pale Horse (Umamusume/Youjo Senki)

So maybe we see multiple different descendants of Sunday Silence being tasked to seek out and "seduce" Shirogane as her career record grows.... two-to-four times as fast as any other Uma?

The more I think about it, the more this is disgustingly suitable as omake material. Please somebody write this, just snippets of Shirogane in post-race press interviews and occasionally someone pops the question about the romantic rumors surrounding her, then her response being misconstrued as blatant straight-faced admittance. Over the course of a year, it will seem to the public that Shirogane has somehow slept her way through both Tracen dorms.

Non-romantically speaking, it feels like Shirogane is falling into the same mistake/trap that screwed her over in her second life. As Tanya, she got addicted to winning battles and forgot why she was fighting in the first place, namely to get a safe posting in the rear.

Here Shirogane is showing the same signs of obsessively trying to compete and win races at the cost of her health/sanity when her original reason for racing was to earn money so her parents can live comfortably. Sure the prize money can be lucrative but most umas' and IRL racehorses' incomes aren't from prize monies. Rather, their main incomes are from the sponsorships, advertising deals, and merchandizing.

Tracen students derisively call those merchandizing umas "idol umas" but what would they know about money? Those who can devote 100% to just the physical aspect of racing are all "old money" umas with generational wealth and prestigious family names.

Shirogane is potentially forgoing a massive fortune by walking away after every race without saying anything to the dozens of cameras and thousands of potential fans who are watching. With her prodigious stamina, Shirogane could easily pull off some sick dance moves as an ending celebration while everyone else is gasping for breath. Or couldn't she at least give a shout-out to her friends, family, and hometown? Fujisawa is seriously underrepresented in media and the residents would gulp down any representation they could get with both hands.

That's half-a-million people Shirogane could squeeze merch money from!

When she was in elementary school, she'd been very proactive advertising and plugging for her family restaurant but that capitalist-influencer effort stopped completely when it comes to promoting herself. Why!?!?!?! Despite winning or placing highly, her current public image seems to be "that weird, loner uma who goes home without saying anything." How could she get any sponsorships, advertising deals, and merchandizing if that's the aura she portrays?

In that aspect, competing in the Triple Tiara Circuit is very good for her development. It will force her out of her comfort zone into the actual money-making, public relations aspect of uma racing. She won't need to bother with dresses and being cute if she could cultivate that exotic, Terminator T-1000, villain-protagonist persona. There are plenty of fans that would love and *more importantly* pay money for that.

I'm imagining how her fellow students might respond. Mostly varying shades of denial- some firm, others baffled, others embarrassed- and maybe a few who misunderstand the questions and confirm the rumors.

I also wonder how the families of all involved would react. Shiro's family would probably understand that Shiro has not been getting around in that manner, but I'm not sure quite how they'd react beyond that.

The families of the racers trying to get in conract with Shiro might have a "you were supposed to convince her to get with your brother/cousin, not you!" response

There will likely be many jokes about Shiro's inexhaustible stamina.

She isn't trying to win at the cost of her health/sanity. Her problem is actually that she just doesn't push past what she knows her body can sustain.
I suspect at least part of her focus on the prize is that she never seriously considered racing as a carreer. She didn't do a deep dive into the economics of racing because she never actually felt driven to race.

Or she's cultivating an air of mystery to drive further engagement. It has been agreed in-universe that Shirogane would not do as well if she just tries to copy what other umas do. She can take a different path.

She is doing the post-race concerts. She is doing all that she is instructed to do.

You do raise a good point that she should start exploring merchandizing options. I suspect that won't happen until someone (probably her trainer) brings it up, or she discovers someone taking advantage of the hole in the market to make and sell bootleg merch. Depending on what she thinks of the unlicensed product, she can either get upset and try to have them shut down, or legitimize their business, in exchange for a cut of the revenue/profits.

Hmm…this might be a useful way to draw some more attention to the restaurant…assuming she ever won a race where they accommodated the special performances.

"You have a point. As a public figure we do have to create a brand of sorts."

"Oh that is way too uncute of a way to put it!" Her senior seemed to recoil as if physically struck, before tilting her head contemplatively. "But I guess cute won't work too well for you."
I'd say Shirogane is at least some level aware about it.

Shirogane is essentially like Gold Ship in that she never gives her all. I would love to see a future omake set during Gold Ship's time as a student, where the older students and trainers comment on how Gold Ship resembles an alumna. Then, it would cut to a confused student body who can't understand how Shirogane and Gold Ship could be considered similar.

Would somebody explain Cowboys in the Uma world. Did they ride thoroughbred donkeys or was it giant goats for everyone. Are stallions just loving nicknames for uma husbandos? America needs answers!
Male-Uma couples in the style of Bonnie and Clyde

By the way, considering that Umas replace not only horses but all equine species, do you think much of the terminology related to horsemanship has a different meaning in this world?

For example, are saying "mount" or "ride" synonymous with having sex with a Uma?

Or does saying "donkey" refer to a very stupid Uma?

To add to the uma version translation conversation, what would the equivalent of umas on sable island be? I personally think it would be funny if they were a bunch of ocean hippies.

Context:

I imagine that it's like FGO's Don Quixote & Sancho.

It's interesting that Sancho is the name of Don Quixote's companion in this depiction, considering he had a horse called Rocinante. I guess they combined the roles of the squire and the horse together and went with the squire's name.

Obviously they rode piggy back on Umas.😂

I'm actually unsure how to write Ramonu since she hasn't come to global yet and I haven't gone out of my way to translate and read her story. I just know that she's very passionate about racing and that she's kinda intense based off of her brief appearance in the Cinderella Grey manga.

She'd probably have a few choice words for Shirogane when she realizes what kind of racer she is, or who knows, maybe she'll enjoy having someone who has no hesitation talking back to the first Triple Tiara winner. She seems like the kind of lady who likes someone who can speak their mind.

Ramonu, to my understanding, craves the INTENSITY of a race. When Rudolf softens up after becoming Student Council President, it sours their friendship because Ramonu never got to square off against Rudolf when she was more Intense (hinted in Cinderella Grey). In other words Ramonu is here for the smoke. To the point where she sees a similar level intensity in Still in Love (more specifically "Crimson" Still, Ramonu goes "I'm not letting this chance slip away, if it takes making you hate me to get a good fight then that's what I'll do." There is a reason for those "Fuck racing let's just kill each other!" Memes with Ramonu and Still in Love. I think their first conversation has Ramonu implying she'll "Steal Away" Still's trainer to provoke her. So yes, Ramonu may in fact try to provoke Shirogane, if she learns of her "Devil of the Rhine" mode.

Watch out, folks, a little bible of text is coming up.

Assuming that prestigious Uma families (like the Mejiro, Symboli, and maybe the Sakura and Gold) really do behave this way, they'd probably treat their sons like we treat stallions that were successful racehorses. Glorified sperm banks.

If the result of the union is a female Uma, they'd simply raise her to be a runner like any other, and if it's a male, they'd probably let him have a "normal" life where he can study and work as he pleases, maybe even have a partner and children, but he'd still have been conditioned and desensitized to occasionally "mate" with clients from his family. Perhaps, depending on the terms of his contract, he'd be allowed contact with his children or prohibited from doing so, like sperm donors in real life.

Maybe that's why Verxina, Vivlos, and Cheval Grand, despite being sisters, have such distinct features. Besides different "performances". Maybe they share a mother, but have different fathers.
Two corrections:

1: The Sakura Gundan/"Victory Club" is explicitly stated to be a Youth Club that all Sakura Umamusume "coincidentally" were in at a young age, rather than a family.

2: Vivlos and Verxina are explicitly full siblings and thus would have the same father.

Oh damn. So she's willing to act petty as hell to get what she wants, that being a damn good race. In this hypothetical meeting between her and Shirogane, perhaps she'd threaten to use the Mejiro family's power to meddle with Suzukiya in order to make Shirogane put her game face on.

I did some reading up on Ramonu, both the uma and the actual horse and I can't help but notice that her personality in game is much different from how the horse was noted to be in real life. Apparently she was actually rather timid as a filly, but in Umamusume, she's portrayed as being rather... Domineering?

Well someone had to represent the Mejiro Rage Gene when they made Mejiro "Retired because nobody wanted to deal with the Ornery Jackass" McQueen a Sweets Fiend. It's where Dream Journey and Orfevre's IRL issues come from, and the reason Goldship acts the way Goldship acts, it's the McQueen genetics.

Forget cowboys, I need to know about Uma-verse Don Quixote!
The knightly Tales of Doña Quixote and her trainer, the one and only Sancho Panza. Training for her majesty's race (an uneven track with a middling pool that has the misspelled name of a race of one the many epics she read) by charging against windmills.
