PS4 Skyrim Update (help!)

So I have no one to turn to for advice on this. Reddit is a piece of shit, and I don't touch Discord or any other social media platform to ask these kind of questions.

But now I'm scared.

If you are not aware, Bethesda released an update for Skyrim a couple weeks ago that, in typical Bethesda fashion, fucked everything up.

They released a patch later that supposedly fixed most of the issues, but there is apparently still a bug for PS4 that causes some mod's file size to appear bigger than they normally are.

Now I have not updated. Skyrim has been offline for two weeks.

However today I turned the wifi on to play some Master Duel, and Skyrim started updating under its own accord when I swear I had automatic updates for it turned off.

I was online playing Master Duel yesterday without issue and the auto update box is unchecked, so I don't understand how in the fuck Skyrim achieved self-awareness and suddenly started updating itself behind my back!

Thankfully I canceled it in time, but now I worry it's going to happen again.

So what exactly is going to happen to the mods I already have installed if Skyrim updates without my consent?

Are they going to break?

Inflate in size until they become too big to fit in my load order?

What should I do? Should I just rip the bandaid off and get it over with?

I do not have a PS4, but I had something similar happen yesterday on the laptop my work send me.

W11 despite having the updates set to scan but not download, downloaded an update, w11 removed the regular shut down option and forced me to install the update...

I could only choose between:
-Lock
-Update and shutdown
-Update and restart.

I figured that if they already did something to the computer to remove the regular shutdown option that it would only mess up the laptop if I just shut it down by holding the physical power button. So I reluctantly let it update mostly because its not my laptop lol.

So how far along was the PS4 with its update of your skyrim? Was it still only downloading the update or was it installing already? Did you check if it still works?

On the whole, I recommend not having your device connected to the internet unless youre using the internet for what youre doing. I also recommend checking if maybe the game or device itself has additional settings regarding updates and the like that may have caused this to happen.

That said, theres a good chance it will occur anyway in the case you dont find the cause. If you dont find the cause behind the update, then I'd say it is generally better to update things yourself and disengage any mods you know would break from the update beforehand.

It hadn't even started downloading. It was preparing to start before I managed to hit pause then cancel and delete.

From what I can guess, if I have wifi turned on BEFORE I power on the console, it automatically starts updating.

If I turn the console on first and then the wifi, nothing happens and I can play Master Duel normally. Just spent the past hour playing while frequently checking my notifications and nothing came up.

I should probably just get it over with.

Would posting my load order help? Maybe someone could tell me what will most definitely break beforehand, and then I can disable those.

I hope I at least get to keep Serana Dialogue Addon. Finally getting to marry her after over a decade only to have it all potentially taken away by a half-baked update held together with duct tape and chewing gum.

Bethesda needs to cease to exist.
