I was recently threadbanned for making a comment that I was reporting someone to the mods after being attacked in a thread.
While the person in question was threadbanned by the mod, I was also threadbanned for what was apparently an unwritten rule?

"Rule 5 - Do not make a show out of abusing site functionality"

I was not aware this was a rule and when I looked in Rules I have not found any rule forbidding this. I do not post on QQ very often, so I would like it if I could receive some clarification for this threadban? Is this an unwritten rule or it is an interpretation of derailing the thread?

[Apologies, I would quote this but I cannot access the Reply functionality in the thread]

"We do not appreciate it when our users make a spectacle out of using site features like that.

If you're going to report someone, just bloody well report them and move on.

You can eat a threadban for a week as well, I am not amused by this."

This is the reason given for the threadban.

If someone could provide some clarification and perhaps a list of the "unwritten" rules, I would appreciate that.

Basically threatening to report someone is against the rule. Either report them or don't, but in either case, don't say you're going to do it.

Alright, that's clear enough, thank you.

Can you tell me about any other unwritten rules that I should know about? I'd appreciate at least knowing of them so I can avoid breaking them.

EDIT: While I am on the topic, do you know how I can message a moderator that has their profile turned off? I'd like to explain to the mod in question that I didn't know that I had broken a rule and ask if they can reverse my threadban.

Erm... That rule of don't threaten people with reports is generally universal in forums?

I typically stick to either posting stories or reading them, it's not very often that I actually comment on anything. I wasn't aware that this was a rule, normally I avoid actually talking to people like the plague.
Frankly this whole day has been rather unusual for me, but something about the content of the update and the thread discussion really twigged something in me apparently.

Does that mean that there aren't any other unwritten rules I should be concerned with?
And the question about the disabled profile?

EDIT: Perhaps it might be a good idea to officially list that threatening people with reports is against the rules?

You go to the post and click their name and select start a conversation?

    Or ping them here?

I'm not able to start a conversation with Generic_Generica and I didn't want to ping them unduly, but if it's allowed.

If this ping works, I'd like to apologise for breaking the rule about threatening people with reporting, I was not aware that it's against the rules and I will not do so again.
I'd suggest making it a part of the official Rules page somewhere.

I have changed my mind about requesting the threadban be lifted, time off of the thread has given me perspective that I wasn't thinking through my posts and had lost my temper around 8 hours ago. I won't make an issue out of waiting for the threadban to expire.
