[RWBY] RWBY Shorts

If by some miracle I could reboot RWBY... I'm ditching most of the old VAs for new ones. One, they're too old, and two, most of them are liabilities. Ren, Nora, and Ruby's didn't cause any drama so they could come back in cameos. Weiss' was okay. Glynda and Sun's I might bring back. Winter and Qrow's are too good for a reboot. Everyone else? Recast, especially Jaune. I want him to sound like a farmboy, not a sniveling little pussy.

Ugh... I'm hungry and it's time for lunch... I want to get a sub but the burger skit makes me want a burger too now.

Wat do Chat?

UPDATE: I used a spinner. Burger it is.

I can already feel Arturia staring at me....

"Neptune/Dad no!" the shared voices of May and Brooke Vasilias cried out as the blue haired man held a white haired boy by his scruff.

"What's your deal punk?!" he growled, "Eyeing my daughter like a piece of meat?! Where do you get off?!"

"S-she's my teammate!" the boy managed to yell out.

"Bullshit! My daughter being teammates with a no good scoundrel like-!"

He felt his head get smacked, and turned to see his daughter glaring at him.

"That's enough!" she yelled, "Sebastian is my teammate you idiot!"

Neptune felt his heart break at the insult, "B-but Brooke he-"

"We were discussing our training regiment to prepare for Vytal! Gods, why can't you just accept I'm not some toddler anymore?! If I wanna be with a boy then your input means jack!"

"Not when I know damn well how these boys are!" he yelled back, hoping his daughter would finally see reason.

"How?! How could YOU ever just decide all boys are gonna be the same way?!"

"Because I was one of them!"

His daughter just looked more annoyed, "No you were the way YOU were! That doesn't mean every guy around me is gonna just be the dumbass you were when you were younger!"

In an anime style scene, Neptune fell to his knees, finally wavering under his beloved daughters words. She in turn huffed in annoyance, though did feel a little bad.

"Come on Seb," she growled, "Let's go."

"R-right," the platinum haired boy nodded, sending one last nervous glance at Neptune before following his blue haired teammate.

"D-dumbass?" Neptune mumbled, mind repeating his daughter's words to him.

May leaned down and began to pat his back, "I-it'll be alright dear. But she has a point. You can't go assaulting every young man who says hello to her."

"I-i know but- I just-"

"You love her dearly, and want her to be safe. I do to. But scaring everyone away from her won't help. It'll just isolate her and make her truly hate you."

"I hate when you make good points," he grumbled.

May giggled before kissing his cheek, "It comes with being a sniper. I have to analyze my surroundings to know what's happening. So please, for her sake, and your safety stop harassing every boy until they do something to warrant it?"

"Fine fine. Wait why my safety though?"

"Ahem," a deep cough had the pair turn, and Neptune paled a little seeing Jaune Arc and Weiss standing before him. The titan of a blond (no he was definitely NOT jealous of that), seemed amused, while the shorter woman looked livid.

"Neptune," she began, and Neptune whimpered a bit, "Would you mind informing me why you believe throwing my beloved baby boy around like a ragdoll would be acceptable?"

"E-erm uh, w-well you s-see Weiss I-"

He cried out as she began to repeat his earlier actions. Jaune and May watched from the side.

"Try not to strangle him love," Jaune called out.

"Y-yes please don't kill my husband!" May followed up.

"So how've things been for you May?"

"Oh it's been quite nice lately! How has Radian been?"

"Well could be better. Had a bandit attack a month ago, then a small Beowolf pack not long after."

"Well if you require any assistance please ask. As a queen I can offer a good bit of aid if needed."

"Thanks May, but we're good for now. But I've got your scroll number if we get in a pickle, promise."

The two shook hands, before looking back to see Neptune being chased by Weiss still.

"Apologize to my baby boy!"

"I'm sorrrrrry!"
🤣 Yeah, exactly that lol. He probably wouldn't be so paranoid about it if he married Jaune's sister Tanya or any woman who can keep him in line herself. But a shy, quiet girl is one he had to change for by himself. He'd be very worried that any boy looking at his daughter wouldn't change the way he made himself change.

Probably wasn't his best idea to go harassing Jaune and Weiss' kid though, especially in front of them.

Look carefully. Cinder took her in the right leg.
Just rewrite the fight so Cinder hits her left instead.

Badly injuring Pyrrha and her having to spend months healing and retraining sounds like a great idea. I'd have her come back but she's spent the time training with her semblance. She uses Polarity a lot more now since hiding it isn't worth it. She spent a long time alone hoping Jaune and everyone would be OK, so she is super happy to see him again. Also means Jaune doesn't have to go without a partner.

Count on the clock again.

It has been a week or two of nonstop Malfoid and while I do intend to continue writing those stories at least for a while, I figured a visit to the threads was long overdue.

I don't actually think Velvet is too upset by what Cardin did. She's a second year student who fights with her hands and feet. CRDL all use weapons and armour. In the cafeteria, she is as close to fully prepared for combat as she can be, while they're without the gear they normally use. She could easily defeat the four of them right there in the cafeteria in my opinion. In other words, she has chosen to not use force to stop him from pulling on her ears when she absolutely could do that. She is not a powerless victim. This leaves two options:

Firstly, Velvet is choosing to allow it for social reasons. She's a timid rabbit and is worried about what will happen if she–a Faunus–stands up to the Human bullies. This is a silly thought for Velvet to have, but you could write it to be in character. In that case, maybe Cardin and Velvet can bond over trying to toughen her up. This could be hard to make work when Velvet is a second year student who regularly goes on missions. How many people has she seen dead or killed by now? How many bandits has she killed herself? It might be hard to believably write a character with that sort of timidity whilst also being a Hunter-in-training.

Secondly, Velvet is a masochist and likes getting her ears pulled. Cardin is a tall, well built jock. Velvet might just see it as a man who is exactly her type treating her as roughly as she wants to be treated. Just unfortunately he's a racist bully rather than her lover. In some rabbit species, it's apparently rabbit foreplay for them to tug on each others ears. Cardin thinks he's causing her pain, instead he's sending "I want to make babies" signals right to her brain. She doesn't run off to cry, she runs off to take care of a little problem and change her underwear.

I wholly agree with the second conclusion here.

Velvet is in a trade school for mercenaries. Let us be under no illusion, that is what they are. If Cardin had a year to two of seniority on her, then fear would be understandable. But she is already imperiling her own life and wellbeing in the ordinary course of financial transactions. She has seen action. She has definitely watched people die violently and has almost definitely taken the lives of other anthropoids. And we can be certain that all of these instances occurred in circumstances where her life and safety were not guaranteed. She says as much herself in V2.

In V2, she is introduced returning from a mission with her team & professor. She is exhausted because the threat assessors most likely got it wrong, and sent Team CFVY into the jaws of an unplanned-for and overwhelming catastrophe. Her first, and only, words on the matter were: "There were so many of them."

Then The Breach happens and for Team CFVY, the Breach is light work. So you have to wonder just how bad "bad" is when they say it is bad.

Certainly worse off than what Velvet goes through in the Beacon cafeteria at the hands of a weaker student.

So if we know what she thinks is not bad, and we can reasonably infer towards what she thinks is bad, and both of those things are far, far worse than anything Cardin can do, that Velvet is getting off on it is the only logical explanation that we are left with.

In other news, Cyber Whitley 3 is in the final stretch and I should be done sometime this weekend. That is the tidy theory.

I've gotten the major recurring side characters just about done and now I've got to write the shakedown sequence for Whitley's new body.

Next two chapters after that should be the fight scenes that I had been wanting to write since the start.

If only that WERE Summer's inclination.

Ruby's not just a physical copy, she's inherited her mother's belief system resulting in a Hero Complex.

Summer's actions have made it quite clear she'd rather "be on the front lines" then "The mother of the next Silver Eyes Clan".

Her actions in Volume 9 showcase a rather dark twist to the supposedly kindly 'Supermom' Yang remembers her as. Tai may have thought it a routine mission from Oz. Raven's appearance makes it clear that not even Oz knew about Summer's "Final Mission."

It's entirely possible Summer was a high functioning Narcissist sociopath with a hero complex simply going through the motions so that everyone would worship her. Nobody caught on because 'High Functioning'. She was able to keep the mask in place the entire time.

Really something someone in the writer's room should have caught on to but we all know CRWBY was high and desperate when they scripted it.

It's the only way they know: They can't let Ruby be flawed and grow and change. That implies she is imperfect. Which is impossible.

So, they must tear down Summer. Make her worse.

And yet Summer is a woman and thus also cannot be wrong. So she's a girlboss who was super awesome and ran out on her children and husband because only she can go and fight and defeat Salem! And she failed but that's totally not her fault either!

And on and on and on. It's so exhausting.

I must admit, Summer being a high-functioning narcissistic sociopath is a plot beat that I personally have a love-hate relationship with.

Mostly because it crept into my head early on, while everyone else was theorizing that Qrow was Ruby's biological father, I hit on the idea that Summer solely married Taiyang out of some desire to save him after Raven left and never felt anything for him.

Because frankly, that sounds like something I can see Ruby doing; trapping herself in an empty marriage so that the other person doesn't feel bad.

I think her hero complex would inspire her to make that kind of a self-sacrifice.

And because in her head, she would be able to frame it as a selfless act of heroism, she'd really feel fulfilled by it (or something similar to fulfillment), so the fake would be pretty darn good.

Especially if the only people that she has to fool are an emotionally wrecked husband, an even more emotionally wrecked (and emotionally stunted on top of that) alcoholic brother in law, a toddler, and latterly, an infant.

If there were ever a pack of pigeons for a con like that, the Xiao Longs fit the bill.

But then V9 handed this to us. Summer pulling a Raven because, as it is stated above; Ruby needs to be perfect for for the lesson V9 is supposed to teach (that Team RWBY is infallible and has no need to grow or improve and it is morally wrong to suggest otherwise) to land. So they have to tear down the goal that she has been striving for (at least impliedly) this whole time because if she can grow, because if Ruby can make mistakes, or you think that Ruby can make mistakes, then she still has growing to do and V9 is a load of rubbish.

Remember when Ruby says that letting Atlas and Mantle die was Team RWBY's fault and they needed to improve before Yang shuts her down because that is something that Ironwood would think?

All that means is that Ironwood is a good person.

If he's willing to learn from his mistakes that is a good thing, I'll take him over anyone who says that they don't make mistakes and everyone else is at fault somehow.

I'll spare you all the personal anecdotes.

Of course, the message behind V9 is that the opposite case is true, so that is going right in the trash.

Point is, I see faking your way through a marriage just to make another person happy as something that Ruby, and therefore Summer would do. Because Summer ended up being a nonentity to me.

CRWBY of course, botched it in the way that they botched everything else. Which is why I detest the idea as it was given to us.

But what would be a worse kick in the pants?

For Qrow - had he and Summer been a thing as the early theories state - losing out on his girl to his brother in law not because of anything he did wrong, but because she decided that being a hero was what mattered? How is that for bad luck?

For Taiyang - not only did his first wife leave him, but #2 was motivated to enter that relationship solely by a hero complex and pity?

For Yang - for the mother that she did have, for what moments that she had in her young life before she had to grow up, for her 'super-mom,' to learn that it was a complete crock?

Or for Ruby - her hero, her idol, the woman whose literal mantle she has been trying to fit into since she could talk, whose face she sees every time she looks in the mirror, and who she never got the chance to meet. Everything that she was building toward, everything that she is, and that she wanted to be was just a facade? And for reasons that she is entirely aware of, can understand, can articulate, and can see in herself.

I mean, here we have a fault, inherited from the person who she basically is, and who she is trying to be.

For Ruby's arc, that is a thing she can grow above. It is a challenge for her to overcome. This works because for all of her life she has very firmly held a destination, and a pathway, for her life's journey in mind. She knows what she wants and how she wants to get there.

At some point she's going to have to put down her childish notions of being a hero if she wants to become anything like it in real life.

You know how I am always parroting Lao Tzu, "Virtue is not conscious of itself, therefore virtue that is conscious of itself is not virtue." It usually comes out when I dismiss whatever Blake does as being solely motivated by an urge to reaffirm her own moral superiority to herself, but I think it applies in Ruby's case a bit too.

Ergo, Summer can be useful as an external model that Ruby can see her own faults reflected through and better understand what those failings will cost both her and those around her.

But that only works if Ruby knows and understands that she is in no place to criticize Summer on that account- being because she's just as bad.

Ruby is, in a certain way, Summer's do-over. But she is a do-over from scratch who doesn't have the benefit of hindsight.

Meaning that if she wants to grow into Summer's cape and Summer's boots, then she has to learn from Summer's mistakes as well as her own. That should be easy, seeing that one is a copy-paste of the other.

Of course, V9 serves us rubbish and tells us that Ruby is perfect and infallible (therefore, Summer is likewise by logical extension) and that her journey is about realizing that she is perfect and anybody who says or thinks otherwise is evil for doing so…

By tearing down Summer (and by logical extension, Ruby - see the above).

Now, something understood since ancient times is that if a position or opinion cannot be explained or justified without contradicting itself is that it is wrong.

Socrates made a career clowning on the Sophists (the dominant political force in Ancient Athens at the time) by asking them questions about their beliefs and trying to elicit a contradiction out of them.

That he succeeded so prolifically and profusely as to delegitimize their entire school of thought is why all of the public officials in Athens who had come up under the Sophists wanted to get rid of him.

As such, V9 doesn't just shoot itself in the foot, it cuts its own throat.

But not on account of anything in particular that Ruby and/or Summer did, but because the message and moral that CRWBY so desperately tried to pass on was so nonsensical and categorically wrong that it couldn't help but fall apart on itself.

Therefore the trick isn't to explain or justify V9. And I do not think that can be done. V9 was a mistake because it was V9 and they made it. All I have done here is point to Ruby's - character arc would not be the right word to use - in V9 and illustrate how I think it shows that Ruby's plot thread and course of conduct - again, I will not call it a character arc - in V9 did not work out at all, let alone how the writers intended. And I think that is readily apparent.

It is for this reason that part of me thinks that Ruby would mishandle or fail some way at parenthood. If only with one of her children. Not for lack of love, she'd definitely love her kids. But she never had her own mother to learn from, neither in-person as a child, nor as a source of advice in later life. So Ruby is in the unenviable position of not knowing how to handle her kids beyond pure instinct and guesswork, especially if they end up with personalities too different from her own or if the circumstances of their childhoods are too different from those of the Xiao Long cabin. Miscommunication, and miscommunication compounded by prior miscommunication likely leading to child maladjustment are for this reason, I think, likely.

Because there is a disconnect between Ruby and Summer per Red Like Roses II.

Summer didn't want for Ruby to die like she did, but the song seems to bend in the direction that she didn't want for Ruby to live like she did either. If I had to place a guess. So I can see Ruby not wanting her kids to turn out like her either. Especially if she lets something like V9 happen to her. She would do everything she could to prevent that outcome. I guess that is why I became so set on the idea of having the main source of strife and anxiety in post-Salem Ruby's life be a teenage daughter who idolizes her the way she idolizes Summer, having to live through that, having to try to push her daughter into being her own person while also being gnawed by the fear that if she handles it wrong that she'll end up pushing her kid away from her. How would she say "You don't want to be like me, and there is a whole side of the story that nobody has the heart to tell you. I'm not the person that I used to be, and I am glad I'm nothing like the person that I used to be. There are a lot of things wrong with the person that I used to be, things nobody is interested in talking about. " without taking away so much of her child's childhood, taking away her hero, and shattering her image? If Ruby were to have some great personal struggle in later life, I think that would be a good one for her to have.

#2 is the best followed by #4.

The off-white/light gray shirts just suck so much definition and personality out of her design. The black and red, with the poofy sleeves hold that frilly, goth girl look together so much better. They keep it uniform and don't suddenly jar you with dead, soulless space on her arms and upper chest. 4's boots are better than 2's shoes, though.

So if I was doing a Pyrrha Lives but can't go with JN_R and Ruby on the hunt for Cinder kind of story I'd go with the major injury instead of a coma.

In short, Pyrrha is out of the fight for at least a year. Even with Aura.
While I did consider an injury instead of a coma, the problem is that this would give Pyrrha a fate similar to Yang's, which would feel repetitive.

So, I opted for a coma instead, as it's something different. We could also have Pyrrha wake up from that coma at some point during Volume 6—while the protagonists are on their way to Atlas, Pyrrha wakes up in Vale and decides to assist Glynda in her efforts to repair the kingdom.

Recast, especially Jaune. I want him to sound like a farmboy, not a sniveling little pussy.
I would add that there would also be more emphasis placed on certain qualities of Jaune—such as his guitar playing, and even the fact that he's a sort of impostor who got into Beacon with forged documents.

Don't lean too heavily into the "One Steve Limit". The idea that everything and everyone must be unique to stand out can start to cause breaking of the suspension of disbelief.

Yang is likely not the only person wounded and missing a limb from the Fall of Beacon. She's also not the only one with an artificial limb.

By limiting yourself in that fashion, you are making the statement that no one else can suffer that kind of injury among the cast. Therefore everyone else is safe from a limb amputation. That is dumb plot armor.

An arm and a leg are two different limbs with two different functions. Therefore recovery for both is going to be different. So already if you NEED to make them stand out, there's your angle.

But then consider, the reason why everyone balked at Ruby's eyes activating on Pyrrha's death is because it's a 'Show don't tell' that Ruby considered Pyrrha a close enough friend to activate them.

Except, Plot Hole, Ruby and Pyrrha have BARELY interacted throughout the series. In the same way that Jaune and Blake have said almost no lines to each other but Knightshade exists anyway. As well as Milk and Cereal.

So yes, Pyrrha and Yang are both injured and in this particular timeline, both are dealing with cybernetic limbs. Holy shit an actual point of bonding for the two.

Again, this is why I just reject that entire bucket of nonsense and rewrite it. Ruby should see Summer, Taiyang, Raven and Qrow making an attack on Salem in the hopes of ending her threat once and for all. And they nearly beat her but Salem rallies and kicks their asses. And Summer sacrifices herself to save the others. It should be made clear that even in this darkest moment, Summer was thinking of her family, of the ones she loved, and of Remnant. She dies with a smile knowing she has wounded Salem, and that means she can be defeated. In her darkest hour, she fails to kill Salem, but the possibility of beating her is real.

This would make the entire Ever After arc actually MEAN SOMETHING. The Tree can kill anything, so getting Salem to the Ever After is their surefire way of beating her. Jaune's loneliness, falling into the Ever After, the loss of Atlas: All of it actually MEANS SOMETHING. It was a great and terrible loss, but IT WASN'T FOR NOTHING. Because it means that THEY CAN WIN. And by seeing her mother face her end with a smile, knowing she has saved her family and that there is hope, gives Ruby HOPE that SHE CAN FINISH THE JOB.

This is literally the easiest thing you can do, writing wise. Character is at their darkest, lowest level. They failed. They learn their idol did fail... But didn't give up. And these losses do not mean you've lost the war. Indeed, this loss gives you the means to WIN.

And yet CRWBY could not put this together, because they can't let their female characters ever be imperfect. Which in turn, makes them both boring and horrifically evil.

And that could be an interesting quandary to put Pyrrha through. Does she go through potentially years of therapy trying to heal a leg that might never be fully functional again? Or does she give up on the leg and have it cut off so a combat prosthetic can take its place?
So idea about the prosthetic leg. What if it's that Pyrrha doesn't trust prosthetics to match her own abilities. Her semblance is metal manipulation, which means every time she's fought anyone who relied on prosthetics she had a major advantage from the start. And because of this she might have developed the idea that prosthetics are always a liability. It doesn't matter that it's objectively false, someone reeling from a major loss is going to have issues when without pre-existing biases.
It also gives her a big conflict point with Yang and by extension the rest of team RWBY. Yang will feel attacked since she now relies on a prosthetic. And gives Maria something more to do than teach Ruby to use the power of love to fuel her eyes. Maria lost both her sight and her best weapon when she was injured. Her replacements were objectively worse than the originals in every way. And she could show how to keep on living.

Yang: Offended dragon noises.

Pyrrha: "I control metal. Prosthetics are a liability."

Yang: ". . . Okay, fair."

. . .

"Still gonna beat your face in, though."

Pyrrha: "You can try."

I would add that there would also be more emphasis placed on certain qualities of Jaune—such as his guitar playing, and even the fact that he's a sort of impostor who got into Beacon with forged documents.

You just gave me a brainwave.

Forging documents to get into Beacon specifically is probably pretty easy (comparatively speaking).

Recall that spending a good chunk of your life outside of the kingdoms is considered by Beacon's standards equal qualification to graduating PCS - and presumably the act of merely the act of surviving on the vast, overwhelming majority of Remnant's soil is equivalent to the sort of training that a special school can provide to those fortunate enough to be born in one of the great cities.

With that said, it is highly probable that Jaune's paperwork was not exactly checked very thoroughly and whoever did probably just assumed that if he was a fraud, the demands of Beacon's curriculum would sort him out.

Don't lean too heavily into the "One Steve Limit". The idea that everything and everyone must be unique to stand out can start to cause breaking of the suspension of disbelief.

This is another pair of good points right here.

#1 - Excellent point on the potential for duplicates. The One Steve Limit is largely a rule for rookie writers who have no plan to make logical or intellectual demands of their story or positive logical/intellectual assumptions about their audience.

#2 - Ruby and Pyrrha's friendship. RWBY's original Monster-of-the-week format was as close as possible for the show to be non-serialized as it could be without being non-serialized.

Therefore, we would have cause to largely infer character relationships and interactions (within reason). There were still overarching plot threads (Ruby, becoming a real hero, Weiss overcoming her father, Yang meeting her mother, and so on…). The day to day of the characters was just not that important to the story or the promises that the story made in relative terms.

So, there was implied leeway granted by the audience when the authors decided that the limited screen time that they had could be better used elsewhere.

We could fill in the blanks ourselves contingent on the flawlessly choreographed fights came as scheduled.

Then V3 happened. The format of the story changed.

And that meant that they needed to fill in the blanks themselves because they could no longer afford the price of the leeway.

So they changed what they could and dropped what they couldn't. Which, again, included the format.

Characterization became much more constrained to the discoverable and the demonstrable.

Which was not really a good thing for the _NPR of JNPR.

All of a sudden the three characters meant to be part of Jaune's Beacon uniform needed their own thing to do.

Pyrrha, they were always going to kill her off no matter what. But I genuinely think that sticking with the original idea would have been better.

Nora and Ren are just dead weight on the plot, and they should not have survived V4.

Rule 4 of Writing - Every character in a story must have a sufficient excuse for being there.

It is for this reason that including characters without good enough cause is a bigger waste of those characters, every other character in the story, and the story itself, than killing them off or simply not introducing them.

Of Team JNPR, Pyrrha is the only character who does not exceed her narrative remit.

Jaune - an author avatar/comic relief character whose job it was to let Mr. Miles Luna explore Remnant in his own voice and give the audience some laughs to cover/excuse the expository mess, who somehow overshadowed the main/title characters in his importance to the story on both Doylist and Watsonian levels.

Nora - One of the three characters introduced to make Jaune's presence at Beacon look less out of place and his narrative purpose less obviously conspicuous. From the start it is obvious that they didn't really have any plans for her to be her own thing. And for being nothing but an article of Jaune's clothing, a couple of quotable to define her personality around and being the other half of Ren's coin was fine.

Pyrrha - Death Flag central, Monty telegraphed his initial intentions for her in the Jaundice Arc, namely that she would die covering up Jaune's inadequacies. And that was meant to be the signal to start treating Jaune as a real, meaningful character instead of a punchline. Everything beyond that was to build sympathy for when that moment occurs so they don't have to start getting us reinvested into Jaune's character and struggles several seasons in.

Ren - Literally just a mixture of traits that contrast Nora's to avoid an echo and make the background look more even and less like a cheer section for Jaune. He is effectively conjoined to her to highlight Jaune and Pyrrha's relationship, clearly define the cast's order of precedence, and just be around.

Pyrrha did what she needed to do and left the stage without encumbering the story further.

On the other hand Jaune became the main character by accident, and Nora and Ren do encumber the story by continuing to be in it.

A lot of RWBY's cast bloat problems would not have emerged or at the very least, metastasized to the extent that they did if both of them had died in V4.

All of the parts were there to give them fitting deaths that referenced their inspirations in some way.

Ren could sacrifice himself to take down the Nuckelavee. We'd have to tie it to memory somehow and clearly emphasize the theme of making sacrifices for those you care about.

A nice contrast to the Yuan Dynasty telling of Mulan. In which her father dies of illness while she is out fighting in his place and her mother remarries and forgets about her. Then she decides that since she's already the greatest hero of China and she has absolutely zero to return to, she just opens her own throat in the family shrine.

I think Ren should go off to join his ancestors on a more positive note here.

Nora…

Thor kills Jormungandr and walks nine paces before the serpent's venom kills him.

So applying the same logic that we applied to Ren, we should arrange conditions such that Nora is responsible for Tyrian's death with some sort of poison of her own.

Which she can.

Her Semblance is electricity (Jaune, why were you not gaming this when you had both it and Pyrrha's magnetism, that synergy is HORSESHIT).

Tyrian loses his tail and gets a cybernetic prosthetic.

So what if he stung her, and she gave him a nasty shock and permanent/degenerative nerve damage with it as she was dying?

What if his tail couldn't properly synch up with his nerves as a result and at an inopportune time, failed to respond properly? Thus enabling someone else (perhaps who would otherwise not have the opportunity on Salem's second most useful lieutenant) to exploit the gap and land a fatal blow.

Death isn't necessarily the end. Your body may have ceased metabolic processes, but that doesn't mean that you are automatically forgotten or that what you did in life stopped meaning anything.

Nice, simple, succinct things to do for side characters whose purpose in the greater story has ended and who need to leave gracefully.

It would have completed their character arcs, and resolved their roles in the story without the odiousness of what we got from them in V8.

And now that we do not have these characters that need to be important because of their proximity to the main cast and their seniority/standing in the show, but who add/contribute nothing to the major character arcs, plot beats, or worldbuilding, we have all of this extra time and space to spend on characters and plot points more germane to Team RWBY and the story itself.

CRWBY striking out at tee-ball again.

It says more than it should that I am only slightly mildly disappointed at this juncture.

Urgh. With the Malfoid craze and my job and money woes and other things, I haven't written nearly as much as I would like for Ruby's birthday! I do have a fun Whiter Rose short and a Lancaster lemon. But nothing really spooky, urgh.

Yay, Whiter Rose.

Count will try to short-notice something on that end too. But likelihood is bad.

Okay, so here's a question about RWBY that I've never been able to get a straight answer to: why did the whole Jaune pursuing Weiss storyline feel so out of left field, almost as if it had been crammed into the story?

The strangest part is that the moment the show had the opportunity to move past it, it seemed to forget about the whole thing entirely. It was never really developed into anything meaningful, to the point where even a lot of the good fanfic concepts I've come across either abandon the idea altogether or treat it as a one-off joke before moving on.

I've always wondered what the point of that storyline was supposed to be, especially when it feels so disconnected from Jaune and Weiss's later character evolution i will not use development. Was it just an early attempt at comedy, or was there originally supposed to be something more to it?
