Teaser: The Beyonder

It was a warm day. Everything seemed to be going as well as it should be. But then, something happened. Something the many architects of this strange reality did not intend. Something that would change not just the fates of the students, but the fate of this very reality itself if it wasn't dealt with.

It started with a tiny golden line in the sky high above the massive city of Kivotos. The golden line was no larger than a small table, but soon, like a golden eye opening, it expanded wide, and out of it popped something.

Something dressed in a white disco outfit that was pristine and unwrinkled. White shoes were laced perfectly over white socks, and curly black hair stood out against pale skin.

His face was somewhat squarish, with a strong jaw and bright, inquisitive black eyes. A broad smile of brilliantly white teeth could be seen on the being's face.

Floating out of the rift of gold and into the sky, the being looked around, head turning from left to right.

"What is this? This multiplicity? This uncountable diversity of objects and concepts. Where am I?" The being, shocked, thrilled, and equally excited, asked nobody in particular.

He looked around him and saw a tall tower of shining splendor and modern build rising above him not too far away, and down below he noticed a strange noise. A noise he had not made. Something else other than him had made such a noise.

He looked down and saw little red things flashing, and a blaring sound.

He didn't like that sound. It was causing him discomfort. Still, it was something new, and he wished to figure out just what it was. Slowly descending from the air, he found himself in the center of a four-way crossroad. Buildings on either side of the road were quickly being evacuated by tiny beings. From his perspective, they were so tiny and fragile they could disappear by accidentally touching him.

The blaring sounds became louder, and the red lights were quickly approaching him.

Crossing his arms and standing comfortably in the middle of the road, he watched as the tiny beings all ran away, and other beings arrived.

They looked somewhat similar to him, all having a similar body shape to him, though many were shorter and had different bodies than him. Ahh, those were female beings. As reality began to make sense to him, as information passively was being absorbed, he looked at the tiny beings approaching him.

They were, of course, physically around the same size as the form he took, but his true self was incomparable.

Several large metal things came screeching down the roads, as the tiny beings held strange devices in their hands, with large square ...What were those? Oh, right, shields. Those things in their hands...They were guns.

"This is The KSPD. Identify yourself now!" One of the young women spoke through a device that increased the volume of her voice. The other young women raised their guns.

It was cute in a way. Like a small twig trying to stop a roaring tsunami.

"I don't know." The being from beyond said. It was true. He had never thought to name himself, for why would he? He was all there was up until now.

"Get down on your knees and put your hands behind your head!" The young lady shouted again, and he was confused. Why would that change anything?

Oh well. It wouldn't hurt to see what was happening.

He knelt down with his hands behind his head.

Slowly, several of the KSPD students approached, and one took out handcuffs.

"Put your hands behind your back." She said as she walked behind him.

"No." The being from beyond said. Being commanded didn't feel good, and he didn't like it.

Standing up, he was almost immediately tackled. Well, the students attempted to tackle him, but instead of tackling him, they went right through his body like he was a hologram.

"Fascinating." He said, spreading his arms out wide and floating up into the sky a dozen meters or so. The being looked around him.

The young lady was shouting again, but he was no longer concerned with her. He was more focused on why shouting would make someone comply.

"Quiet down." He said, and her megaphone shimmered for a second before turning into a tiny, apple-sized rubber flamingo.

The sound of gunfire burst out, and bullets tore through the being from beyond, and he was littered with holes, but there was no blood or gore, only the curious face of the being as he looked upon his body.

"Could you not?" He asked, and instantly, all the students' guns exploded into white sparrows that flew in all directions up into the sky, and the vehicles and tanks turned into lukewarm water that soaked everyone inside them, forming pools on the ground.

Then he turned his mind to the blaring alarm sounds.

Not two seconds later, the alarms shifted tune to "Staying Alive" By the Bee Gees.

"Much better." The being said before looking at the routed students that were now disarmed of their guns, only wielding knives now.

However, far away atop a distant building, a sniper was lining up her shot.

"You can call me..." The being said, arms still spread wide as several armored vehicles, tanks, and troop reinforcements arrived.

With a suppressed crack, the sniper fired her shot.

His head was fragmented and blown apart.

Only to pop back in place a moment later.

"The Beyonder!" He shouted with a laugh.
