...I miss Pirates of the Caribbean Online. Was quite fun despite how basic it was.

Oh, there's a Game that feels as if Skull and Bones ripped it off called "Sail Forth". It's made by one guy. You're basically doing the same things but it's all about whimsy and the humor of a Post Apocalyptic water world. It also isn't some kind of pseudo-survival thing going on. You're a ship or a fleet of them all roving around doing things (well, the captain of the lead ship but for all intents and purposes you're the boats). It's fun and short. Used to have a linear map but now it's a radial map.

Skull and Bones will have the dubious honor of being disfavourably compared to any and all future games in its genre until the end of time lol
It's the Turd Standard of its genre, the failure of a twin to whatever represents the pirate sim genre best. So far, Black Flag continues to be that Gold Standard.

Yesterday, I downloaded the Demo of Songs of Syx, and found it quite fun.

Today, I saw the game had gone on a sale, and on top of that, the bundle that it can come in, which includes Dwarf Fortress, meant I could get it for 2 Euros less than even the discounted price (given I already owned Dwarf Fortress beforehand).

God sent me a sign, and I hope I interpreted it right, so I bought the full game.

Went through the tutorial again (though this time actually knowing what I was doing, rather than just going along the motions), and it's another one of these games I can sink hours into. Made a first run, a town called Berenike with the leader named Tarkus, had a good few years ingame, but then the food situation grew out of control as I had accepted far too many immigrants (though it could also be the Cretonians devouring everything like the pigs they are, leaving nothing for the Humans, Dondorians, and the like six green Elf-things I had), leading to mass-starvation. I had dug a mass-grave earlier, because one citizen died and I had to get rid of the body, and now suddenly it filled up faster than I imagined, corpse-carriers literally lying there, starving among the bodies, and even the resulting reduced population didn't take care of the food problems (I didn't consider Cannibalism, before you ask), especially now that there were fewer people working the fields.

Next run is gonna work out better, I hope.

My worldbuilding projects weep, they are starved for attention just as my citizens are devoid of nutrition, and it seems their famine is not over yet.

Neat, thanks. Maybe now I can figure out why some people prefer this game over Skyrim.
Good question.

For me, it's the vibe. Like, you have to experience it for yourself, but it's a world familiar in some ways and alien in others.

Also, it's a product of its time. You can't really do things like quests about drug smuggling or using slaves to advance your goals nowadays or (attempt to) turn an escaped slave in. For that matter, when was the last time you could join a religion (or two) and do quests for them with restrictions like "an oath of silence"?

That, to me was one of the big appeals of Morrowind. So many fantasy settings are just some variation of generic European medieval or vaguely Asian design that it was really fun to play in a setting that felt actually exotic. Weird people, weird culture, weird creatures, weird landscape.

theHunter Updates:
File size grew by 8GB due to the recent DLC. Reminder the file is so massive because of it having all the DLC Data without it being activated unless you buy the DLCs themselves. Got the Starter Pack though. Was on Sale.

Lakes.
Fuck that place.
It wouldn't be so bad... If the animals didn't have NPC Xray vision and can see you through a literal mountain range. Some also have smell that ignores the scent suppressants. Like black bears will catch you from a mile through it (I checked this once after scaring one off and waiting in a bush with perfect cover on its only path back. Second the wind blew in its direction it stood up on its back legs and roared at me. This was along a river, I was literally tracking it with the scope. As in I have unlocked the Skill that lets you track animals via the scope.Still killed the thing but all my shots on black bears are by making them fail their prostate exams). But the zones almost all keep appearing in thick cover and never within easy view of a cliff or something. Reminder this is supposed to be the map with untamed wilderness, Herschfelden is developed european ancestral hunting grounds but that place is a paradise to hunt in. Especially around the wind turbines and farmlands. Pretty much only enjoyed the turkeys. They're slow, especially in flight. Although it's easier to hit them with the shotgun but they can easily be sniped with the rabbit rifle. Once created a dead zone by sniping out a flock from a mountain. Later came back and paid for the stand... And immediately got pissed. It was a blind, one of the one-way ones. Pointed at the turkey area from a distance outside where any turkey rated gun could hit with the moose area in its blind zone. It's basically a blind blind. Worthless waste of 2,000 monies. That's a frequent problem to (another was up on the mountain in Cheelah overlooking a rolling plain... except the zone was immediately behind it) and the things are glitchy, counting the number of times you enter but not leave unlike other blinds and only two people can enter one.

Keep finding entire herds of nothing but Female animals. Pretty much useless. Did find the lake in Ronachee quite funny. Kept getting new moose water zones then a bear and a coyote water zone then a second water zone for moose (both only for singular Female moose) then one of those water zones gained a second Female and now there's one on the opposite side of the lake, close enough to be scared off by Fast Travel, for an entire herd of 10 moose. Saw 2 Males in there and shot one.

Also learned about Herd Management which is apparently how you get higher level trophies by shooting the higher leveled Males of species. Apparently the Game forces a set number of low level and high level animals. I can't tell any of the numbers apparently and different numbers are for different species so I couldn't remember them worth a damn anyway. I just shoot anything that's the Male of a species and let the Game Spawn in the low levels till they become Female by RNG. This isn't related to the above btw, I literally saw two different elk herds about 100~200 feet from each other with one composed entirely of Females and the other ot Males. It was bizarre. They were pathing towards each other to. Found a different herd up a mountain nearby that was properly mixed and gunned down two as they fled into my face. Although am expecting for the Game to eventually slap everything into being balanced with only high levels being Male given those are the only ones that can become the highest level (Great Ones apparently can only be Male).

Although firing the Empress sounds weirdly satisfying with feeling like a rocket powered crossbow or something. The 22LR sounds like it should be suppressed but it isn't. Still haven't a use case for the AR15 outside of roe deer. Can't even use them on 30-50 wild hogs (that legitimately happened on Herschfelden once btw. Was roving around picking up landmarks and scared a herd of bison, red deer, and wild pigs). Pretty much moved back to Layton Lakes because of the 308 being lighter but having lower class (which is weird given it has higher expansion and penetration then the 7mm of the Empress. Somehow it can only scratch moose though despite being rated for them). The Female moose are weirdly aggressive, I literally was hunting a turkey and one decided to square up on me from the other side of a field. Took 8 shots from the 308 straight to the chest. Watched it fall over and trophy screen said it was the wrong ammo. Even checked to make sure it was the right gun I was holding and... Yeah, it was. Traded out the AR15 for the sandberg to have a sidearm that can dome those giant rats with should they want to whip out their happy bats with plans to go to town on my ass again.

Planning on moving to Silver Ridge now that I've gone through the landmarks. Wish the Game told you what trophy animals were at reserves instead of just showing you a brochure for the site. Hoping the place has rolling plains given it would put me on an even playing field to the xray animals. Or maybe more proper cliff overlooks, always fun hunting from those.
Also discovered something the hard way: the Steam Overlay Deletes all Screenshots not just from your Local Saves but also the Cloud Saves under a singular Image. You need to go into the actual appdata folder if you want to free up computer space. Lost a lot of good Images of mountains and forests and rivers and things from that.

Uh...
Shapes 2 is moving on with Factory Mode soon™. Traveler's Rest released their updated update map with upcoming plans for Magic. Grim Dawn still hasn't released Fangs of the Asterkarn and I'm at the point where I think they should probably just release it as Grim Dawn 2. Thing has been in dev hell for 5+ years. Still has had screenshots of their updates though. Recent size comparison already established it as larger then the main Game. Uh... Opus Magnum released another Journal expansion. Although this one is way outside my skill ceiling. Uh... Gloomwood released a new section to the Market District. Get to rob a dress shoppe guarded by a batbarber after February's update let you rob the customer area of the cartographer shoppe. Also how I found out I had left the crowmen to wander, put some shotgun rounds into them.
