I am asking because the topic is somewhat politicized in the US, and most posters here are likely to be Americans. So it could perhaps be interpreted as a "political topic". So what exactly are the guidelines regarding it?

For clarification, I am asking because I want to use Covid curfews and some reactions regarding them as an argument of justified restrictions on liberty, and the perils of not obeying authorities, in RWBY discussions regarding In Universe events with the same themes.

I mean, it's okay to use those examples, but I'm 100% sure that using them would invariably devolve into arguments about politics, and that's Bad.

So to be on the safe side, it's best to not use it, just in case.

"Are the current political debates surrounding ____ a current political topic?"

    ...yes. Yes they are.

I don't think the specific topic, COVID or otherwise, really matters in this case.
