With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

It started out as a way to manage the process, I understand. A sort of secondary filter against bad actors?
Yeah my understanding is that a lot of the "wonkiness" of the US system is because the founders were scared of demagogues and purposefully put in roadblocks. The idea IIRC was that "educated men" (cough rich white landowners) would be the Elector and they would vote generally in line with what their state supported but could vote for someone else if they felt it necessary for the good of the nation.

I think there was also some "limitation of the time" stuff going on there, basically a rural landowner might not get news for weeks or months, so an Elector would travel to the capital to vote and thus have the most up-to-date info.

This just occured to me, but does Krypton have an Uncle Sam equivalent? I mean, is there like a personification of Krypton out there somewhere?
Not any more.
Thank you, corrected.
Most of Britain is basically an out of date tradition that doesn't make sense.

Yes, they absolutely can. We've already seen several times in the comics that lanterns can keep up with speed force users, and opponents who have shown that they can move faster than light.

Furthermore, they can transmute matter, replace organs/body parts, and hack computers too. They've been able to do that since the silver age.
Ah... Also, I'm an Expanded Universe 1 sort of guy. And I don't really like 'force users are literally wizards' thing that keeps creeping in.
And who the heck would get picked as the first King of America?
Second.
Why do you say things that are easily disproven with a single Google search? How have you not gotten a threadban just for being a pest at this point?
Because I've got them blocked.
Why cant everyone wise up and ignore you so I dont see their responses to your asinine posts?
I don't know why haven't you?
As far as I know that's how it works.
Thank you, corrected.

This just occured to me, but does Krypton have an Uncle Sam equivalent? I mean, is there like a personification of Krypton out there somewhere?
After thirty or so years without any Krypton existing? Maybe if it could get energy from the phantom zone prisoners, and then follow them to new Krypton.

Again, they literally change what rings are capable of doing all the time.

Welcome to comic books.
Feel free to show it then.

Key words you missed there, in atmosphere.

Feel free to show those things, and uniforms dont count for matter transmutation.

Those are the real questions we need answered.
General reminder that Google Search is now an LLM that pulls its information from everything from canon to fan fiction to arguments on reddit.

Feel free to show it then.

You wouldn't believe it even if every single Green Lantern or DC comics writer confirmed it.

Key words you missed there, in atmosphere.

And?

They can move at incredible speeds.

Heck, if anything, Zoat nerfs rings since they've been shown as being able to do things like time travel and dimensional travel.

Compared to that, being able to move at light speed in an atmosphere is a minor ability.

Feel free to show those things, and uniforms dont count for matter transmutation.

Why wouldn't they count?

They're made of matter, and unless the Maltusians added a massive wardrobe for every type of species and body shape, then the rings are performing transmutation when they give them a suit.

And before you say that the suits are just energy constructs, then I'll remind you that there are instances where a Lantern runs out of power, but they still keep the clothing.

Again, it's something from a comic book.

Expecting its abilities to be consistent is a stupid thing to expect.

Sometimes they'll be able to do something, and other times they won't be, either because different authors have different ideas, or the same author could have changed it either because they wrote themselves into a corner and decided to not use the previous ability, or they actually forgot about it.

General reminder that Google Search is now an LLM that pulls its information from everything from canon to fan fiction to arguments on reddit.
Still better than what you provide.

Which is basically nothing.

Again, at this point your credibility is just nonexistent for this story given your history through the three sites it's been on.

as an Asian

what is going on here, i don't grok American-ism
There are a lot of metaphorical nationalistic sayings we Americans have that I don't think many other countries do. I honestly think the closest thing to this heartlands thing in other countries would be some form of tongue in cheek xianxia land that references historical metaphors as if they are real.

I'm sure Russians might be able to come up with some similar land of nationalistic metaphors, but not a lot of other countries I know of would have an equivalent of similar sayings.

Does every country have their own equivalent of Uncle Sam, the Heartlands, and badlands? I know Germany had somebody but the clone of Hitler killed him. Who would be the personfication of Great Britain? Or the Netherlands?

There was that Russian guy in charge of their metahuman department.

I think it was implied that he may have been something like that, but he may have also just been a metahuman.

I know Germany had somebody but the clone of Hitler killed him
Paul was the one who killed Captain Nazi.

The Hitler clone killed the Nazi wizard.

Ah, sorry that that wasn't clear enough.
The question was "what is "all of then" intended to mean?"
I wasn't clear on whether or not it connected to the next statement (about the Governors), so included it in case relevant.
Just saw the correction, makes sense now.

As to the process, I wasn't questioning that, as I expect you know better than me.

As I understand it, if a representative or senator dies or otherwise needs to be replaced, the governor of the state they come from usually chooses their replacement. The SI and Superman were discussing the process for replacing a great many representatives and senators at a sensitive time.

I'm having a little trouble understanding what's going on here. Why would all these government officials voluntarily start offering up their blood to magical corruption worms? If it wasn't voluntary, why are they being punished for it? If it was voluntary... I guess also, why are they being punished for it? Being a weird worm cultist is a bad look, but it's not illegal. Especially if they were doing it out of some attempt to spiritually nourish America.

In fact, let's back off from "the law" for a minute? What is the harm that they were doing here? Were they passing corrupt laws at the behest of the worms? Which laws specifically?

I've become very muddled on this entire plot line.

AFAIK the answer to "why are they doing this" is "Paul doesn't know yet."

As for the legality, I think it's illegal under the anti-demon laws Paul helped get passed?

The Worms are, explicitly and exclusively, avatars of corruption.

It's akin to a politician accepting foreign contributions - it might well be voluntary; it might well be for the good of the country; it's still illegal.

Oh, god, imagine that nightmare, violently xenophobic on a planetary scale.

Basically, the worst version of Zod, with near-omnipotence.

The SI had a pretty solid theory by the end there, though they haven't confirmed it.
If it wasn't voluntary, why are they being punished for it?
Because you can't have your government being mind controlled by corruption worms.
If it was voluntary... I guess also, why are they being punished for it? Being a weird worm cultist is a bad look, but it's not illegal.
Being in a cult is specifically protected by the constitution. Selling out to a foreign power on the other hand is treason. President Kennedy, for example, had to explicitly state that he wouldn't be taking instructions from the Vatican while in office.
Especially if they were doing it out of some attempt to spiritually nourish America.
That's an decent excuse, but it would still be illegal.

Part of the point of this whole arc is that the SI and the League affiliates in general have gotten into a situation where it's very unclear what the right course of action is, and while taking what they thought was the right course of action have ended up somewhere they don't want to be. So you're in good company, because they're not certain either.

Does every country have their own equivalent of Uncle Sam, the Heartlands, and badlands? I know Germany had somebody but the clone of Hitler killed him. Who would be the personfication of Great Britain? Or the Netherlands?
Most countries probably would; there was a point earlier in the story to where Orange Lantern helped defeat/capture the German version of Uncle Sam; Captain Nazi, a guy who had evaded the fall of the Third Reich and due to his nature as the spiritual embodiment of Germany was causing low level problems to the mental state for all german citizens (because they're not Nazis anymore).

I think a requirement though for an embodiment to form is a recognized geographical area being somewhere and all of the people within that area recognizing themselves as being part of that geographical area. This would work for the US, UK, and Japan, but would probably call flat for a lot of countries with internal conflict; like Canada, Ethiopia, and Myanmar.

I'm not sure that strange to you religious practices and blood donations is grounds to detain, imprison, or impeach a sitting congress person. Americans believe in freedom of religion, especially with all Paul has done to popularize both the true facts of the silver city and the true facts of Greek after life. Blood banks are totally legal and being a blood donor is very respected.

If I found out my congressman had actually stopped being a traitor and decided to donate his blood to the literal tree of liberty in penance, I would actually show up to vote for once, that's the guy I want in charge of my shit, not batman the brainwasher.

These are the 2 pieces where it was described where Captain Nazi came from and what's normally required for such Genus Loci to form.
"Wait a second." Richard holds up his right hand. "You're telling me that the embodiment of Germany is a Nazi superhero?"

"They don't age. If no one kills them they can just keep going." He glances back at the shroud-draped outline of Albrecht Krieger. "When Adolf Hitler came to power, his associates in the Thule Society told him of this. He ordered them to find the embodiment of Germany. Probably, he was hoping they would be a Prussian militarist. We don't know exactly. Instead, he found a man named 'Lucky' Hans, working in a puppet theatre in München. He embodied the German spirit as it was in the seventeenth century, poorly organised, cheerful and happy go lucky."

Richard grimaces. "I'll bet Hitler wasn't too pleased."

"I doubt it very much. So, Wolf Krieger informed his leader of this, but promised to him that it could be fixed. Poor Hans was abducted, ritually murdered and… Albrecht Krieger was the result. Hitler had his Aryan superman. Worse, for we Germans, he had a constant connection to our souls."

"Does Atlantis have one? You use more magic than anyone else."

"And that very fact would prevent one from developing here. We use so much magic that it becomes structured. For an intelligence to emerge there must be pools left to format themselves over large periods of time. Other places? Perhaps. I haven't.. studied the phenomena, but it could well be."

Compared to that, being able to move at light speed in an atmosphere is a minor ability.
They can fly at reasonable speeds in atmosphere, and you going "Zoat doesn't let them do these other things that are highly specific to certain ring variants" doesn't compare to him giving his rings entirely new capabilities that no actual DC writer has given.

But as the writer Mr Zoat is free to do that.

But it also means that anyone judging a Zoat Ring by the abilities of a Comics Accurate ring should notice the differences. Unless Mr Zoat is retconing the comics themselves in his universe so they have those capabilities, which hasn't been stated in story.

Why wouldn't they count?

They're made of matter, and unless the Maltusians added a massive wardrobe for every type of species and body shape, then the rings are performing transmutation when they give them a suit.

Actually the standard uniform very clearly is a construct.

Some Lantern's however wear actual uniforms, just like how some Lanterns fly around in actual spaceships.

Ha!

Tey something a little more believable.
They can fly at reasonable speeds in atmosphere, and you going "Zoat doesn't let them do these other things that are highly specific to certain ring variants" doesn't compare to him giving his rings entirely new capabilities that no actual DC writer has given

Except for all the writers that have given them similar abilities.

But as the writer Mr Zoat is free to do that.

Then why do you always complain when he does it?

Actually the standard uniform very clearly is a construct.

Except for the times it's not.
