Welp, I might have stuck my foot in it. A while back my supervisors gave me the 'you need to smile more.' lecture.

Today, something in me snapped. Maybe it was the bitching about 'time theft'. Supervisor ask about how I was doing and I just parroted his words back at him.

"In the interest of not getting another lecture, I am fine and my issues are at the door."

Both supervisors acted like I slapped them. I just walked out the door.

I'm going to pay for this but I just can't care.
 
If I had a nickel for everytime my local community welfare center offered me to come and watch entertainment media and it turns out the premise of the story involves a male protagonist having to crossdress and fool others into believing he was a woman, I'd have two nickels.

Which isn't a lot but it's kinda funny that it happened twice.

Not quite, though it was a movie, and I also used to own a copy of Mrs. Doubtfire. First one was about a bigshot airline pilot that got fired because of a scandal and since he still needed to make ends meet he resorted to impersonating his own sister to become a pilot again.

Second was a musical called Sugar, which I went to see live.
 
Something about how cute and harmless Polar Bears look makes them feel scarier than the average dangerous predator. At least crocodiles and wolves have the courtesy to look like nightmarish predators.

It shouldn't be legal to be so cuddly and yet so dangerous.

It's a joke that's apparently older than writing.

Quite the longevity -- most comedy sketches don't have that kind of staying power.

Well, unfortunately, if not a lot of people have read your writing, there won't be much discussion. You can ask people to read your writing and offer criticism, but they might not have the time, or motivation, or interest, to do so.

As this is a general thread, feel free to put up links to your writing in one post here, with said request attached. But don't spam the links, that is rude.

Alternatively, add a Spoiler tab to your signature, label it "My writings", put the links to your writings in it, possibly with a divide between ones you are actively working on, ones you have finished, and ones you have left unfinished, and thus it's on all your posts.

You make an excellent point Hatless. Can't really do it where I'm at right now, I'd have to get home to actually use the computer to collect those links. I will think more on this in the meantime.

Anything where I can easily set a start and end-point, ideally.
 
I barely remember my high school days in the US, so I want to ask if anyone knows whether stuff related to business/finance/economics are normal subjects available to freshmen, or are they exclusively AP courses? It's for a thing.

There was some stuff like that when I went to high school. Not a lot, but enough to at least let you function in a world where Google wasn't available to do your thinking for you and you still needed to take care of a bank account and do your taxes and shit.

To my understanding, more recently American schools are mostly streamlined towards whatever gives the best test scores statistically with the least effort from teachers so that the schools can maintain funding. Teachers make so little now that most can't maintain any real level of give a fuck for more than a few years, so we get what we pay for.

My (Canadian) high school had Accounting and Entrepreneurship courses as electives that sophomores and up could take
 
Where's a good place to openly muse about the history of Japanese Media in Korea where it was basically banned until fairly recently. And I mean shockingly recent.

It's an interesting period in history which I feel like needs to be explored. Assuming Korea's "anime" history has underground roots due to the bad history their parents and grandparents have baked into their national identity.
 
Either the history thread or the anime thread, but the former is more general (and so would allow more tangents into non-anime topics).
 
I'm about to finish the audiobook I'm on. Does anyone have some suggestions to share for Audible? I still have a bunch of credits saved up. I'm mostly looking for Fantasy (not Urban Fantasy though), but I'll take pre-Modern historical stuff too.

Mostly asking because I've been looking through what's on offer, and I keep getting bombarded by that LitRPG stuff that doesn't interest me at all.

The Rob Inglis reading of Lord of the Rings. If you really want to get into the lore, listen to the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, then go on to Unfinished Tales and The Hobbit.

If you're looking for something completely different, try the War God Series by David Weber.
 
It happened 14 years past when it was supposed to get done, and it was a spattering of fucking horseshit, but I passed my driver's test today.

Got in the vehicle, could immediately tell the lady was a bitch. Couldn't find my hazards, started to panic a little, lady couldn't find my hazards, eventually found them.

She opens the door to get in and says "Ewww."

Here I am thinking that I'm about to fail the fucking test because the lady is grossed out by the dog hair on my friend's passenger seat. Turns out she was allergic, she just didn't say that she just kept saying "Well I don't WANT to fail you..."

Eventually she swaps out for another guy, who he gets in the car, and first words out of his mouth were "That was excessive." And right away I knew I was set.

Did a couple turns, K turned, I was golden. As I am pulling in, the same lady was standing in a spot just out of sight where I was about to pull into. Guy under his breath goes "fuckin' bitch." And looks super embarrassed that I heard him. But he passed me, a spite pass is still a pass.

I had pretty much the opposite happen. I failed my first test, and on my second attempt, well, after I finished, the instructor told me...

"I don't scare easily, but your driving scares me. I wish I could fail you, but I legally can't."

The closest thing I got to a reason was, that apparently only so many points can be deducted for a single error, no matter how many times it is made. Now, with that in mind, you would think it would be helpful to tell me what that error was.

I was never told.

But I did pass.

In what feels to me like a massive waste of times and resources, yet another remake of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods is on the way, titled "Dragon Ball Super: Beerus."

To be clear, this is not a movie, but a full anime series slated for release this fall. That's right: they're doing a second anime remake of the Battle of the Gods movie. Because apparently remaking it into a manga and anime once already weren't enough. No, we need a fourth iteration of this story.

The trailer looks... well, fantastic, and it kind of pisses me off that they're dedicating the resources to do this for yet another remake of Battle of the Gods.

Fortunately, we've also been informed that, at some indeterminate point after the release of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, we're finally getting a continuation of the Dragon Ball Super anime.

My guess is, they first made the movie, then they made the Dragon Ball Super series and the Dragon Ball Super manga at about the same time, but there were a number of differences in the manga and anime stories, even if the overall plot is broadly the same.

This will therefore be an anime adaptation of the DBS manga.

In their defense, Akira Toriyama is dead. Without his advice, whatevee DB media they put out will be scruntinized far more intensely by the fanbase.
