With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

My assumption would be that for Sailor V, the local-OL being her "boyfriend" means she's hugged him a few times, they might have gone out to eat, and she's maybe kissed him on the cheek.

All of you are talking about her age in legal terms and such, but based on her behavior in the show she really is at the emotional maturity level of a 14 year old. That is, she loves the idea of having a boyfriend and would enjoy hanging out with a mature boy who is nice to her, but she doesn't feel remotely ready for anything actually sexual. Given the attitude of typical Paul-SIs, I doubt he would initiate anything unless she dragged him to it by the hand.

I mean, we can still see it as kind of skeevy, but there's no point in talking about the law if they haven't actually done anything sexual.

Mamoru being dead doesn't mean shit.

Because resurrection is a thing that can occur and the person who does it is very much inclined to bring her boyfriend back from the dead.

And even if Usagi can't or won't for whatever reason, Neo-Queen Serenity a thousand years from now may decide to reach back in time and jiggle the timeline to revive him.

See, for example, what happened with Sailor Pluto who died due to her restrictions* and Neo-Queen Serenity retroactively reincarnated her twenty years in the past so that she would have a happy and full life before Meioh Setsuna could show up and become Sailor Pluto once again like someone whose D&D character died and was replaced with a suspiciously similar substitute.

*OG Queen Serenity: "And to you, Sailor Pluto, I entrust the guardianship of the Doors of Time."
OG Queen Serenity: "Don't ask where I got them."
Pluto: "So my job is to protect and manage the timeline?"
OG Queen Serenity: "No, your job is make sure no one uses them to fuck with time. If you fuck with time, you die."
Pluto: "So no altering the timestream, but can I do anything else with time?"
OG Queen Serenity: "If you so much as stop time, you die."
OG Queen Serenity: "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to fuck with the time space continuum."
Pluto: "Rules for thee and not for me, huh?"

Wait, are those restrictions actually canon?

I get that the author might not want Sailor Pluto to completely break the story with her time powers, but what's even the point of giving a character time powers if you won't let them use those powers in the story at all?

That's not what happened.

Pluto died in the Silver Millennium and was reborn along side the rest of the Sailor Scouts. That's the Meioh Setsuna the team encountered after Pluto's "death". The Pluto that died was the one from Silver Tokyo which had encountered and befriended Chibi-Usagi.

The excuse me? I'm sure it's higher in every single prefecture so it doesn't actually matter, right?
Yes, every single prefecture has a minimum age higher than that. So you'd need an area of Japan that wasn't part of a prefecture, like how there are areas of the United States that aren't part of a state. Or maybe Japanese territorial waters or something.

I mean, don't, obviously.

She didn't even do that much. The most she did was treat some of their missions like dates. Naturally, he didn't notice.

I get that the author might not want Sailor Pluto to completely break the story with her time powers, but what's even the point of giving a character time powers if you won't let them use those powers in the story at all?

Yep.

Canon.

In fact, she dies in canon when she had to stop time during the Black Moon arc. After which, Neo-Queen Serenity retroactively reincarnated her

More or less. Her actual restrictions are: She can't leave her post. She can't allow anyone to time travel. And she can't disrupt the flow of time or she dies.

So she's just stuck there doing nothing for all time, and hennshe gets cool time powers, but she can't use them or else she dies? That sucks balls. Again, what's the point of giving someone time powers if they can't even use them? Seriously, what was Queen Serenity thinking?

In fact, she dies in canon when she had to stop time during the Black Moon arc. After which, Neo-Queen Serenity retroactively reincarnated her

So, she got killed for basically doing her damn job? What the hell, Queen Serenity? If Queen Serenity is so anal about people with time powers, then why even bother giving people time powers at all?

Three out of the five Guardians walk away, having resumed their civilian forms and wanting to return to their families. That means that I'm left with Moon, Venus, Other Me and the cats. Artemis is lying in Venus's arms, which… Seems a little odd for an intelligent creature to do, but for good friends who've been through a lot… I suppose that it makes sense. Moon's cat Luna is standing on a nearby wall, glaring at me.

"Alright, Mazikeen, Sandro and I will be leaving just as soon as we've got a lead on Angelica. I don't suppose that you've got any sort of transplanar tracking technology, do you?"

Moon blinks. "Transwhat?"

I close my eyes for a moment, then look at the rest of the huddle. Venus shakes her head, Artemis blinks owlishly, Other Me-.

"Sorry, I… I've had enough trouble keeping this ring-" He raises his left hand. "-charged. I tried investigating the planetary fortresses, but the first one I looked at still had functioning defences. There might be something there, if Metalia didn't completely destroy them."

Venus taps Artemis on the head, prompting him to look up at her and then turn to me.

"I don't remember having anything like that. Queen Serenity might have had a spell that could do that, but I never saw her perform it. Sorry."

Moon frowns thoughtfully for a moment, and then turns to Luna. "Luna, do you know anything about that?"

Luna keeps glaring at me, then raises her right forepaw and points it at. "What is he!"

I narrow my eyes slightly. "I'm the reason why you're not in Metalia's dungeon right now. And what I am doesn't matter if I'm just going to leave."

"Hey!" Moon glares at Luna, who is completely unaffected. "Luna, be nice!"

Luna growls, fur puffed up and tail lashing.

I generate a construct cat carry case around her, and then transmute a physical one to replace it.

She looks around her new enclosure, and then tries clawing at the door. The carbon nanotube reinforced tungsten doesn't get damaged in the slightest. "Hey! Let me out of here!"

"Alright, I'll assume-" Guardian Moon looks a little concerned about the cat case for a moment, but when she sees that it's not actually hurting Luna she smirks at her pet's discomportment. "-that she doesn't know anything either. Is there anything I can do to help before I leave?"

"I-." Other Me starts to speak, then stops and looks away.

Ah, yes, I know that feeling. I'd hate asking for help too, and he really wants a safe way to recharge, and knows perfectly well that continuing to feed on dark energy isn't an option. But he's torn between asking and just trying to work something out himself. Because trading is one thing, but just asking for a favour you can't pay back…

"I could make you a personal lantern, but it would take a while and wouldn't be as effective as an actual maltusian one."

His eyes widen. "You ended somewhere with maltusians?"

I nod, shrugging. "It made getting started a lot easier. I got a personal lantern handed to me inside a day. " I fabricate a copy of my training manual and offer it to him. "I wrote this to help with the training of new Orange Lanterns. You might find it useful."

He nods, taking it and sending it into subspace.

"You might be able to learn to feed off the Silver Crystal. It might take a while, but the orange light is pretty good about consuming-."

"Absolutely not!" Luna tries to glare at me, but the bars rather diminish the effect. "The Silver Crystal is the property of the Moon Princess!"

"I'm pretty sure that the Moon Princess is dead..?"

Guardian Moon frowns at me. "Hey!"

"I'm sorry, I know that Shinto doesn't have a belief in reincarnation, but if we accept the Buddhist view, then you're still a new person who is supposed to add to your soul's total wisdom. You're not her, whatever you share with her. And anyway…" I smile. "Strange cats distributing sticks is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical feline ceremony."

The Japanese girls and alien cats look confused, while Other Me snorts with laughter. "You can't expect to wield supreme arcane power just 'cause some mangy moggy threw a stick at you!"

Luna scowls. "Hey!"

Venus looks confused. "Huh?"

Other Me shakes his head. "It's from a film. I'll show-. I'll show it to you later."

Guardian Moon blinks. "I can't?"

"Mazikeen took the 'royal family only' spell off, so anyone can use it. And… Have you ever really thought about what you're doing? You're some Japanese girl who a cat gave magical powers to because you're genetically identical to someone who died thousands of years ago. Do you think that maybe getting some training with the police or military might have been a good idea?"

Venus nods. "I used to train with the British police's Armed Response Units. And… Honestly? Having a whole organisation who could give me information and back me up was really useful."

Other Me nods. "I noticed that British politicians got a bit upset when Venus and I started acting as superheroes. Monopoly on legitimate use of force, you know. It might be worth you speaking to someone in the Japanese government as well in case they decide that you're… Somehow partially responsible for what happened."

Moon's eyes widen. "But I wasn't."

"Yes, we know that, but after global catastrophes governments aren't very rational. Beryl said that she was going to speak to the Canadian government, so that conversation is going to happen. It would be a good idea to get ahead of things."

"Okay. I guess I'll ask… Rei or something."

Other Me girds his loins and huffs. "I… Would appreciate it if you could make me a personal lantern. You're right: using dark energy isn't-. It's a terrible idea. But I don't want to give this up."

Hm. "Actually, there might be an easier way. One moment."

I look out into the universe, searching for… Orange light use, or something similar enough that I can-.

There! I move

"…trouble me ever again!"

To where a woman… In a golden costume that looks a bit like what the Guardians wear fires an energy blast at another young woman. Her target disintegrates almost immediately, a crystal… Smaller than the Silver Crystal and orange in colour falls to the ground.

"Splendid."

Gold Woman turns to me with an expression of surprise. "What?"

I tether the crystal and

step out, returning to

Japan, holding the crystal out to Other Me. "Here you go. This might make things easier."

He takes it, nodding as his ring recharges. "Thank you. That will do very nicely."

OH, SHIT! DID PAUL JUST STEAL SOMETHING FROM SAILOR GALAXIA?! 😱

He needs to get the hell out of this universe ASAP!

Congratulations Orange Lantern, your complete and utter dumbassery just doomed an entire universe.

Congradulations Orange Lantern, your complete and utter dumbassery just doomed an entire universe.
Also, he just grabbed the personification of a person's soul so that his in-universe copy can use it as a power source. Galaxia was always going to be an immediate problem(Sailor Moon takes place during what, 2 years? 3 if we count the Dark Kingdom) but this has just so many different fucked up implications. And if local Paul is in any way moral, not a permanent solution to his power source needs compared to just making him a Lantern.

So Paul searches the universe for Orange Light, senses it, goes there, that makes sense. Then he sees someone committing a murder, and his first thought is "Splendid", because what's left of the murder victim happened to turn into a compatible power source for an alternate-him.

I don't know much about Sailor Moon. I watched part of the first season once, so I don't think I know much more than Paul does in this situation. But him not knowing what's going on just makes this a lot worse? He doesn't question or try to harm the murderer he knows nothing about, doesn't feel bad for the victim he knows nothing about, doesn't try to learn more... This feels weird. I understand that he has other things to worry about, and he was planning on leaving the universe soon, but someone was disintegrated in front of him and he doesn't ask why.

This feels like the moral equivalent of realizing your friend needs some cash, going around the corner to a mugging in progress, saying "Oh, that's convenient," and then taking the victim's money from their corpse before the mugger can. Then you cheerfully go back around the corner and hand the money to your friend without telling him where it came from, or that there's someone with a gun around the corner who might want that cash.

If Zoat was being at all truthful to the setting the next minute would involve Galaxia teleporting right next to them and killing everyone.

Because that's the level of "you've fucked up" that this represents.

Yup, he's basically torturing a Guardian's soul so he can use it as a power source for his ring.

A soul which Usagi could turn back into an actual person.

Moon's cat Luna is standing on a nearby wall, glaring at me.
Artemis is a lazy git who happily revels in the benefits of looking like an Earth cat. Especially in the 90's anime. At least Luna takes her duties seriously, sometimes to excess...

"Alright, Mazikeen, Sandro and I will be leaving just as soon as we've got a lead on Angelica. I don't suppose that you've got any sort of transplanar tracking technology, do you?"

Moon blinks. "Transwhat?"
Good thing the Ring is translating, her English is terrible, even before going into complicated scientific terminology.

Wonder if he went to Venus? You know, because he was working with its technical owner?

Venus taps Artemis on the head, prompting him to look up at her and then turn to me.

"I don't remember having anything like that. Queen Serenity might have had a spell that could do that, but I never saw her perform it. Sorry."
It seems the sort of thing you'd never need to use, in general. I don't see her being paranoid enough to make such a spell except if absolutely pushed to.

Moon frowns thoughtfully for a moment, and then turns to Luna. "Luna, do you know anything about that?"

Luna keeps glaring at me, then raises her right forepaw and points it at. "What is he!"
Ah, letting her temper get out of hand, I see. Wonder if she's got the JP voice or the 90's dub? That changes perception of her character a lot.

I narrow my eyes slightly. "I'm the reason why you're not in Metalia's dungeon right now. And what I am doesn't matter if I'm just going to leave."

"Hey!" Moon glares at Luna, who is completely unaffected. "Luna, be nice!"
And apparently she does get paranoid around new people. She thought Ami - Sailor Mercury - was a villain at first because she seemed 'odd'.

Luna growls, fur puffed up and tail lashing.

I generate a construct cat carry case around her, and then transmute a physical one to replace it.
Probably a good idea, she was likely about to pounce. And the Moon cats have surprisingly sharp claws, given they were able to trouble the four Kings at times.

Good, yes. Asking if there's any issues might get other you to speak up about charge issues.

"I-." Other Me starts to speak, then stops and looks away.

Ah, yes, I know that feeling. I'd hate asking for help too, and he really wants a safe way to recharge, and knows perfectly well that continuing to feed on dark energy isn't an option. Sadly, getting soul-crafting tattoos might be tricky here, since I doubt there's a secret club of magicians over in this Britain who could do it.

"I could make you a personal lantern, but it would take a while and wouldn't be as effective as an actual maltusian one."

His eyes widen. "You ended somewhere with maltusians?"
Oh, brother, he lucked into a DC universe outright. Sadly he's been going a bit too native, some of the things he's done...

Hopefully it has Cliff's-notes about things like safely use Feed on hazardous arcane energies.

"You might be able to learn to feed off the Silver Crystal. It might take a while, but the orange light is pretty good about consuming-."

"Absolutely not!" Luna tries to glare at me, but the bars rather diminish the effect. "The Silver Crystal is the property of the Moon Princess!"
Whose reincarnation is standing right there, and you know that (They wouldn't have the crystal if the confrontation that revealed her didn't happen, after all.) If she wants to let a friend try to tap it, that's her decision.

"I'm pretty sure that the Moon Princess is dead..?"

Guardian Moon frowns at me. "Hey!"
Metaphysically speaking. Though you were technically dead for a bit there anyway.

Ah, quoting Monty Python at her. How British of you.

The Japanese girls and alien cats look confused, while Other Me snorts with laughter. "You can't expect to wield supreme arcane power just 'cause some mangy moggy threw a stick at you!"

Luna scowls. "Hey!"
Oh, hush. Can't you tell they're quoting comedy at each other. It's a rare chance for OL to talk to someone who gets his references.

Venus looks confused. "Huh?"

Other Me shakes his head. "It's from a film. I'll show-. I'll show it to you later."
Oh, I'm sure Minako will be looking forwards to that little date. 😘 😨

Heck, I'm not sure if canon Usagi even got any training before she became Queen. Not even a political sciences course or anything.

Especially if Local!Paul showed off anything of what his Ring can really do. Even a rookie lantern can steamroll entire armies if they can stay focused.

Moon's eyes widen. "But I wasn't."

"Yes, we know that, but after global catastrophes governments aren't very rational. Beryl said that she was going to speak to the Canadian government, so that conversation is going to happen. It would be a good idea to get ahead of things."
Yes, OL knows that irrationality very well. Remember after the 'World without Adults' incident, when a US senator proposed banning magic in response to learning it was caused by magic? Fortunately he was soon set straight on that front.

"Okay. I guess I'll ask… Rei or something."

Other Me girds his loins and huffs. "I… Would appreciate it if you could make me a personal lantern. You're right: using dark energy isn't-. It's a terrible idea. But I don't want to give this up."
If anyone's wondering why she's going to talk to Sailor Mars about it, Rei's father is a Japanese politician, and member of their parliament, the Diet. I guess she's assuming Rei would have some knowledge of that stuff by osmosis...

Hm. "Actually, there might be an easier way. One moment."

I look out into the universe, searching for… Orange light use, or something similar enough that I can-.
OL, no. What are you doing?!

There! I move

"…trouble me ever again!"

To where a woman… In a golden costume that looks a bit like what the Guardians wear fires a energy blast at another young women. Her target disintegrates almost immediately, a crystal… Smaller than the Silver Crystal and orange in colour falls to the ground.
 Sailor effing Galaxia?! OL, this is a bad idea, whatever the fuck you're planning!

"Splendid."

Gold Woman turns to me with an expression of surprise. "What?"
Whoever the heck that poor Senshi was, you dun goofed! 😨 That's the endgame arc you're sticking your nose into. Also, what the hell, you saw someone just get killed and... Yeah, @Jackjack put it better than I could...

I tether the crystal and

step out, returning to

Japan, holding the crystal out to Other Me. "Here you go. This might make things easier."

He takes it, nodding as his ring recharges. "Thank you. That will do very nicely."
And hopefully Luna and Artemis cotton on to what the hell that crystal is and give him a furious explanation of what a True Star Seed is and what relation it has to a Senshi...

Somehow, I don't think this world is going to have a fun time in the next few years. I mean, a worse time than they did in canon. Dead Mamoru, Galaxia poked rather more aggressively than the original timeline, and who knows how the R, S and SuperS arcs will play out before Galaxia arrives? Nice job breaking things, OL... 😨

This is a nice reminder that maine orange lantern paul doesn't think in quite the same ways as he did before the Ophidian merger. He's been mainlining orange light and an orange light enlightenment for a couple of years now.So he may have moved a little farther away from normal human thinking.

For reference, for those who haven't watched Sailor Moon or don't remember, Galaxia is the pentultimate final boss of the series.

The only who out ranks her is Chaos.

As for how bad she is, well..........she depopulated the vast majority of the galaxy. Personally.

She can DBZ planets if she feels the inclination and it's a casual thing for her.

Earth and Usagi was already on her to do list and this little stunt probably only sped it up.

Thank you, corrected.

It's really like watching two gang members from a country you know nothing about stabbing each other, and taking the gun off the corpse of the loser so that the winner can't have it. Yeah, maybe one of them was in the moral right and the other was in the wrong, but you know nothing about them or their culture and removing the weapon is probably the most sensible thing you can do without spending a lot of time on it.
I really don't get why Paul can't make him a power battery and also leave instructions on how to make a new one. It says it won't be as good but it would obviously be better than using up dark energy or something until he makes his own lantern.
Because it takes ages and it's low quality anyway. Oh, and he was this version of himself suck on dark energy until he turned into a demon, so his support is a little less than 100%.

Yeah, maybe one of them was in the moral right and the other was in the wrong, but you know nothing about them or their culture and removing the weapon is probably the most sensible thing you can do without spending a lot of time on it.
If you don't know anything about them or their culture you can't know that they're gang members.
