It should be a tool to help writers improve their writing. They have to really think outside the box sometimes to incorporate the stuff that's thrown at them from the Gacha. However, it's generally not used that way, from what I can see. It can be too much random bullshit thrown into it and kills the story far more often than not depending on how free the author is with the gacha tickets.

Yeah, there's the chance it could be amazing if handled by an amazing writer with a big imagination and solid knowledge on things like psychology, engineering, mechancs, etc, but that's like pulling a needle out of a 10 mile wide haystack. Besides, most of said authors would be working on their own books, not sitting on a forum writing Chaos Gacha. It reminds me that half the time the author you'd need for a good story isn't even writing in the genre you'd want.

Informative names are a good thing. If they're not going to put creativity into the story, putting it into the name is a waste.

Pretty much.

It is a horribly escalating stupid power fantasy. Some guy is given a bunch of random powers. Then he can get raffles for more random powers by doing random shit, which is made easier by the random powers previously given.

So it is a stupid and increasingly stupider cycle of "I acquired powers, which allowed me to do a thing that gave me more powers to let me do more things that also give me powers" ad infinitum.


I abhor it. Give an MC a concrete and properly arranged powerset. At most it evolves under believable thematic lines, but no random bullshit that spawns new random bullshit.


Chaos gacha stories would MAYBE work if it was just "we roll for a bunch of random powers at the start and THAT IS IT", and the writer plays with how creative he can be with that initial random combination.


But they never do that. It is always just more power and ability escalation slop.

One thing that bugs me is there are rolls that are utterly incompatible with the worlds they are written in, but authors kind of write like their hand is forced? Like if you roll Tokyo ghoul and it would be a death sentence in say, The West Wing, maybe reroll and call it a mulligan.

That and there are rolls I just fucking hate, like getting turned into an oni. Some people might dig it, I think it's gross.

Another thing I notice is a lot of the new Chaos Gacha fics force too many curses at the start. Is there like, a rule in writing chaos gacha stories? They always roll like four curses when one or none would be better.

Late response, but it would have been perfect if you put a Trademark there due to how common it is for people who really shouldn't even be hurt by Raynare to die to Raynare's Mighty Spear TM. Heck it might as well be a unique spell like Bigby's crushing hand, or Tenser's floating disk.

Heck you could play into it and get meta if you really wanted to. Like imagining a character who knows the plot and realizes if he wants to get into Rias's peerage for whatever reason, has to find a way to get hurt by the spear by literally turning off their passives, and lowering their defenses or whatever. It'd have to be played as comedy though.
I'd like to imagine a psychopathic/somehat crazy mc that's absolutely thrilled when Raynare pulls out her magic spear thingy, and the mc is just like "Yes, there it is, the spear! Think. How can I get hurt by this and make it look authentic?", but it's subverted as when Rias arrives, she thinks it's suspicious and just leaves them there, or sends them to a hospital or something.

The same guy that was tanking attacks that were specifically stated by the narrator that they were going to destroy the universe? That blue Goku?

Let me guess, the whole retconned laser beam attack from the movie was why it was supposed to happen?

No, never explained how really, it's just they're caught off guard for some reason and never see her. And she auto one shot kills them. Cuz you know, a single stab wound is gonna kill Naruto or Goku. All so Rias can reincarnate them. Well, when SI going through the Raynare event, the world now acknowledges them as Issei-level, whatever strength or potential they have doesn't count for the purpose of being reincarnated by Rias. That's why Raynare event is mandatory.

I agree with this but for Naruto and DxD. Given that Naruto has Naruko and Kiba has a Yumi. I can swallow it. The rest no and for DC and Marvel hmmmm they already have female versions of themselves in comics which strangely isn't used in fanfiction well the comic versions. But yeah I get where you're coming from.

I'd like to think the vast majority of isekai characters would either be imprisoned, court marshalled, or even executed for the shit ton of crimes they commit. But for some reason nobody cares when the random transient that showed up in the kingdom is threatening nobles, arguing with the prince and princess, attacking nobility, and ignoring orders.

Like it get's to a point where I can't stand it anymore and drop the fic entirely.

Typical power fantasy being typical.

I would like to see a good power fantasy but it's so rare that nothing comes to mind. In a way, to make a good power fantasy, you need someone more talented and hard-working than for "normal" work.

And since there's no much demand for good power fantasy, this is what we get.

I would argue it's rather normal for people. We are subjective creatures, picking and choosing morals and retroactively explaining our choices to ourselves. Laws and traditions aren't all logical either, every society including ours gets all fussy and preachy about certain things but consider other similar things to be totally okay.
The problem isn't that, that is normal and human, that is realistic. The problem is the whole world bending over backwards to accomodate protagonist's and author's morals.
Let your protagonist be human and shortsided and arbitrary - but confront them with reality behind it and with other characters having different biases.
But of course, it's too much to ask even from original commercial works - let alone fanfiction

This, so much this. But of course things almost never work that way. The only Original Fiction I've read that does this pretty well is the Wheel of Time (Books) specifically with anyone not named Rand al'Thor. But Rand also faces consequences despite literally having the equivalent of minor plot manipulation as his power.

He's pretty much got the equivalent of Eru Illuvitar going to Aragorn and actively altering fate for him and things still don't go his way like at all..

Why? I mean it's usually done badly, but it could be done in a good way where the hero will just cripple the villain if they are at the level where death is warranted. In fact it'd be kind of interesting to have a worm fic where the MC takes a no killing drawback and instead just uses gray boy powers or turns the bad guy into a Servitor if they are evil enough to warrant death. At first criminals laugh at the no killing rule then the find him the most terrifying.

My problem with 'no killing' rule is that I often see that has with a moral logic that is honestly not tied to any sense of good or evil.

So, let's say you don't kill because killing is bad.
So you would logically force the state to never kill.
But that never happens. For the MC, the government is somehow above their rule.

That not to say that often for those it doesn't matter whether you are killing someone who arguably deserves it, like Gihren Zabi.
The 'kill' is bad, worse than the bad guy who killed millions.

Come on. Killing is an action, it can either be a good action or a bad one.
You can kill people like Griffith, Gihren, Jamitov, Blue Cosmos, Joker and others, and others. That would not be a bad act.

Now if you kill the guy crossing the street? You are evil.

Often those guys SEEM critically unable to differentiate both, which means they are unable to say what is good or what is evil, to which the main question is 'why are you playing superhero then? You don't have the condition to do that '
