  • Staff is working to deal with the problem of synonymous tags. See here for more information and to suggest tag mergers.
  • QQ will have forum downtime on October 21, starting at 10:00 AM Eastern time, for software updates.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

Let us have another 30 tags for each story thread -- 30 tags which can't be set by the author, only by community suggestions.

- No free-form tags, only tags which already exist can be voted up.
- Can't community-vote for a tag which the author already put on the thread.
- Only tags with a threshold number of votes show up on the thread's default interface.
- Each user can vote for some small number of extra tags per thread.
- Community tags which the author "promotes" into being author-approved regular tags ought to refund votes.

That would probably need a plugin but sounds pretty neat. Like the nhentai tagging system? Also, would this be better as opt-in or as a new built-in feature?

You might want something that returns a tag to being a community tag if the author promotes then removes it, in case someone intentionally does that to remove a single tag.

Like the nhentai tagging system?

Yeah, exactly.

Also, would this be better as opt-in or as a new built-in feature?

Probably built-in because opt-in would require that inexperienced or tech-unsavvy authors turn it on, and their threads are the ideal audience for the feature.

The feature is basically a way to handle cases where a thread has more-experienced / more-savvy readership relative to the thread's author, plus cases where the author is long gone but the thread is now being read by people who recognize a new category of writing that wasn't known / popular / relevant when the story was originally posted.

This suggested thing bloody well better have an opt-out option for every single thread an author makes then, because, shocking as it may come to some readers, there are authors that intentionally don't want to tag things related to their threads for reasons they are not even remotely obliged to reveal to anyone.
Maybe they don't want to have their thread connected to a fandom even though it features in some snippets. Maybe they don't feel that that a tag belongs to their work.
And maybe they don't want to share with a large audience, but whoever happens to stumble on the thread.
