[RWBY] RWBY Shorts

I propose a VERY interesting turn of events where VIZ quietly cancels Volume 10 and forces CRWBY to focus on producing RWBY Chibi for awhile. THAT series was actually good even under CRWBY. Maybe after milking RWBY Chibi they'll try to release Volume 10 late, tank the ratings, and go back to milking RWBY Chibi.
I... would not mind that. Only good thing in 9 was RK Jaune and the concept of the Ever After. Really didn't like the fixation on certain things and yet more suffering for Jaune.

I am half convinced with how CRWBY are that Weiss will end up with Jaune only for Jaune to die due to rapid aging or something, like Aang but worse, so Weiss ends up with Ruby.

I've been thinking of a few things but I'm open to suggestions!
Mombi- Could mentally organize everything perfectly.
Ann Green- Could be able to go unnoticed.
Mulberry- Could have some kind of infinite storage.
I can't really think of anything else.

Yeah the RK Jaune and the Ever After itself are very good ideas and the inhabitants of the EA been this weird creatures that funtion on a logic foreign to Remmant is also good, i mean the paper pleaser trying to died because that how they live cicle work is inspired and curious cat im suprised they manage to screw that one up because i can so many ways to make it a better characther.

Another crack idea: Jaune is secretly a blood knight on par with Cu Chulainn. It's not a split personality or a mental issue, it's just that he's somehow both a blond goof and an utterly terrifying warrior in the ring. He's just not used to fighting like a knight.

Which Pyrrha comes to find out when she disarms him in a school spar.

Jaune: "Hey...hey Pyr? They call you the Invincible Girl, right?"
Nora: "Why is Jaune-Jaune smiling? What is this feeling? It's like...like I want to stand beside him and...and...CLOBBER SOMEONE."
Jaune: swings Crocea Mors like a greatsword and shatters the floor when the tip hits it "THAT JUST MEANS NOBODY'S MADE YOU BLEED YET!"
Pyrrha: *heart goes doki-doki*
Nora: "BATTLE BROTHER!"
Ren: "Nora no."
Pyrrha: "That just for show or are you gonna show me a good time~? I...I mean - EEEEE-"

Yang: "I heard Cereal Girl let ya win, VB! I may have missed the last match, but this isn't even going to be a warmup-"
Jaune: "I heard I was supposed to fight a dragon! WHY DO I ONLY SEE A PUNY LIZARD?!"

This question is mainly directed at AJ Talon, but I'm curious: if Jaune had to describe each member of his family using just five words or short phrases, what would he say about them?

Yes, they're his family, and he loves them, but I'm sure their relationships aren't always sunshine and rainbows. I'd be interested to hear how he actually sees each of them, including their annoying habits, flaws, and the things that make them difficult to live with.

Also, I still find it absolutely hilarious that one of the main reasons people seem to use Jaune so much in fanfiction is that he has so little established backstory. It's funny that having so little information about his family and personal life has made him such a convenient character for writers to build their own ideas around.

It's more than that for Jaune. Thanks to CRWBY's sheer incompetence he is basically the only fully realized character. He has an arc (heh): He changes over the course of the show. He does actually show moments of growth and competence and realizes his Semblance by Volume 6, saving Weiss. And then they try to undo that through Volumes 7-9 because they listened to the most insane part of their fanbase.

(CRWBY literally said in interviews they had Jaune stop using his Semblance in Volumes 7-9 because they realized it was Easy Mode and were too incompetent to figure out how to manage it so he wasn't a gamebreaker. Off the top of my head: his Aura pool is not infinite, the technique takes a lot out of him, he has to keep boosting his friends or it wears off so he's a target, etc. But addressing this would also mean Jaune isn't the butt of jokes anymore and is a key part of victory, so of course they couldn't have him do that).

Then, as the Rusted Knight, him being in the Ever After and guiding RWBY around gives them the key to victory: The God Tree that can kill anything. If they'd actually put some thought into it, Jaune's ordeal and Ruby at her lowest point can give them the means to save Remnant. All the sacrifices they have made weren't for nothing if Jaune and RWBY can put together that ending up in the Ever After isn't them being stuck, but an opportunity. And having a means of opening the portal back up and Jaune being the guide (after RWBY and their allies beat up Salem so she'll listen) means Salem could go on to her final rest and SAVE REMNANT.

In short, RWBY can be the front line, Jaune can be the White Mage who helps them win. Everyone is useful, nobody is disrespected. Indeed, this would show Jaune coming full circle: He started as weak and prideful and wanting to be a hero all on his own. Now he is the strong support and helps the rest of his friends, also heroes, save the day. It would work great.

But again, CRWBY was too incompetent and too focused on yuri bullshit and supporting MAID for Ruby to think this through.

In all these ways, Jaune is the closest to a traditional boy protagonist in a genre that is generally male dominated. He has room to grow, he has a lot to learn, he's hit the stations of the Hero's Journey more reliably than Ruby or any other character, and he isn't obnoxious (in the later volumes). Where RWBY got worse and worse, he got better. It's a strange paradox but why he's so popular among non-insane RWBY fans.

As for Jaune's family? A few thoughts:

Isabel: "Mother, love her but frustrating."
Nick: "Dad, love him, admire him, why is he such a dork?"
Lilac: "She's basically a goddess but she never spoke up for me to Mom and Dad."
Saphron: "My favorite."
Aqua: "Hilariously exhausting."
Tangy: "Scary at times."
Coral and Verdy: "Terrifying but not on purpose."
Orchid: "Cute and nerdy."

In short, RWBY can be the front line, Jaune can be the White Mage who helps them win. Everyone is useful, nobody is disrespected. Indeed, this would show Jaune coming full circle: He started as weak and prideful and wanting to be a hero all on his own.
I admit, at this point while this would be better than what I think is coming, I dunno. I am seriously tired of the vocal part of the fan community that CRWBY shills to who dislike Jaune and simp for RWBY, going so far as to LIE about the character to make him look bad. And this would feel like an extension of that, Jaune supporting the 'real heroes'. Not entirely logical, but hey. (I mean, WHM/SCH main in FFXIV here. :->)

I also don't think that he was prideful, rather the opposite. He had ZERO self confidence. He was fixated in proving himself to an unhealthy degree. It's why I seriously think, planned or not by the writers, at least one and probably both parents were at minimum emotionally abusive. He really only talks fondly about his sisters as I recall.

More crack:

-Jaune threatens to never fight Pyrrha again during the Cinder fight. In fact, if she doesn't go all out and show him what she's made of, he'll find another rival, like Ruby or Yang!

Cinder: "Wha-hlrk!"
Pyrrha: "Yang? YANG?! She barely lasts five minutes and Jaune thinks she can take being pounded into the fucking earth better than I can?!"
Cinder: *confused agonized noises*
Jaune: "You're taking control of the iron in her blood? THAT'S SO COOL! I knew you're the best rival a man could ever want!"

-Jaune tries trash-talking Adam to motivate him more. It works too well.

Jaune: "HAH! A faunus woman's proper place...is at the stove wearing nothing but an apron and a swollen belly! Now pick up your sword and fight, or I'll prove it to your woman!"
Adam: "HRK?!"
Blake: "Ny - nyah?"

Naw if you watch Pyrrha and Jaune during volume 3, both his parents actually supported him coming to Beacon and actually know he's there.

Though this has lead to some serious plot holes in his backstory at coming from a long line of warrior heros yet being entirely retarded about huntsman culture and abilities.

It's an easily missed line and the result is so many fan works making Jaune a runaway/sneak where he's MIA and his family doesn't know where he is.

You mean the line where they say there is a place home if he has to leave? That's the only comment I recall and it's not very supportive, rather the opposite. He even acknowledges it to Pyrrha.

Or is there another?

The problem with that is the Rooftop scene way before V3.

It seems that Jaune and his family had definite struggle even when Jaune tried to be polite about their actions and all of that is resolved in background.

It's a recurring theme that anything related to Jaune's struggles that jas potential to be really good gets off screened, like take him revealing his fake transcripts to rest of the team.

EDIT: Though enough about Jaune's off screen family. Let's talk about his archetype and my views

I kind of dislike the premise of Jaune being a purely commander type character just because he lacks the same experience as his peers. Being a commander isn't a crutch for someone who is inept but has a higher than average intelligence level.

For Osamu in world trigger he just didn't have the same Trion level especially compared to Yuma, a problem which Jaune doesn't suffer from.

For Sokka, he just didn't have the same abilities as the rest of the Gaang, which is another problem that Jaune doesn't suffer from.

He isn't like Orihime either. He is ready to fight and kill.

In all real sense he truly is the Shonen frontline combatant archetype.

To me it is pretty cut and dry that he is for the battlefield.

Now on the battlefield he could be someone like Sakura. Support and Tank all in one.

Or if you want more extreme example, Naruto, who I think fits him amd his endgame better.

Here it is. We talking about the same thing? Like I said it's a very easily missed line. The only way it could be interpreted as being negative is that he's so far into his own Vol 1 selfishness in that he misinterprets that moment of parental concern for not believing in him.

Trust me, having that fallback if things go wrong is much better then looking to family for help when you impact the dirt... and there's no one there. *spits on sire's grave*

Never take family for granted.

*flicks you in the forehead* We're not trying to turn Jaune into a Flag Officer. We're talking making him a Squad/Team Leader in the actual tactical/Strategic sense.

Which means yes, he will be in the field and have to actively fight especially if something gets in his face.

Again, we see elements of this:

View: https://youtu.be/zsAaAxl049w?si=dd_9Ewe16b99L7Mg&t=478

On the fly coordination with three strangers he hasn't actually met until that day. He knows literally next to nothing about each of them other than what's he's observed leading up to this moment. And honestly with half of them? He's only had literal seconds to assess who they are and what they can do.

That is basically borderline SAVANT Tactical/Strategic thinking. And from the guy we know is basically retarded in all other aspects of Huntsman life.

If that isn't a setup for Jaune being a prodigy thinker, I will fucking shoot myself in the head right now.

But no, CRWBY demands that Jaune be the useless buttmonkey of the show for comedic effect and undermines every single other display of this hidden power.

Again I've been in that position Jaune is in. You don't do much personal fighting, you send people to fight for you. But that doesn't mean you sit back and don't pull your own trigger. You keep the unit focused and coordinated. And THAT wins you battles.

You know what? I humbly accept the L.

To be honest I was always much much more impressed by Ruby's plan, a makeshift slingshot with Weiss's Glyphs and her speed.

Though looking back into it, they just have far better semblances to work with, and it was mostly just Weiss carrying the team as I would be hard to convince Blake's Ribbon contributed that much to the Ruby Airlines.

EDIT: In hindsight, Weiss is carrying about 60 to 70% of the combo capability of the team.

She is just like Jaune in that regards, great on her own, Absolutely terrifying in a team comp.

Two things.
I read "Flag Officer", and my mind immediately went to Jaune on the bridge of a ship.

Second, why does Jaune need to be in the field for that? tactics are for short-term, day-to-day planning. e.g. winning a battle. While Strategy is for long-term, big picture plans. E.g. winning a war.

I get that he should be able to actively fight especially if something gets in his face. But if it's gotten to that point, then something went wrong.

That is why I differentiated between Flag and Field Officers. Jaune is mean to be more of the latter then the former.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't employ strategy.

Strategy can be as simple as considering how to locate, track, and confront a single Grimm and not solely charting the entire course of a campaign.

Case in point, consider Mountain Glenn. There was no long campaign or grand battleplan. It was a simple Search and Destroy.

But HOW would Team RWBY accomplish this? THAT is the strategy.

Do they section off the city and move steadily grid by grid? Or perhaps they take it layer by layer from the outer walls circling their way in until they hit something? Do they break up into individuals to cover more ground quickly or remain in a loose unit to provide cover and support to each other? What happens when they find the something that is causing the Grimm to congregate? What happens if they run into particular Grimm that none of them could take on alone or even put a dent in such as a Goliath?

These are questions a Strategy asks...

And these are questions that Tactics answers.

Lets go back to the Deathstalker in the above video.

Jaune has a problem in front of him. A heavily armored Deathstalker. Their weapons are not scratching it and they need a plan to deal with it. A Strategy.

Ren moves in as a technical fighter. Going for small gaps in the armor. He finds one in the stinger. In an attempt to make the Grimm less dangerous, he tries to cut the stinger off with a continuous burst from Stormflower. He doesn't quite get it before getting flung loose.

Jaune however sees what Ren was trying to do. If the team cannot strike through the heavy armor, they start peeling it apart piecemeal. Jaune sees the loose stinger and takes a gamble. He calls for Pyrrha, another technical fighter, to finish what Ren started. Easy enough for Pyrrha, she's also someone who relies more on striking weakpoint by slipping around armor rather than striking through it.

Jaune is using the Tactics of his team, their technical fighting styles of pinpointing small gaps in armor and striking in the weakspots, to accomplish his strategy of ripping apart a heavily armored monster.

Stinger falls on/into the deathstalker's head/body.

Jaune switches tactics because NOW he's got an answer to penetrating the Deathstalker armor. It's own stinger.

This brings us to Nora. Nail meet hammer.

And this scores the decisive blow against their enemy causing it to topple into the canyon with no means to save itself. Victory.

Thus giving JNPR its first team strategy in dealing with heavily armored enemies. Using Pyrrha and Ren and technical fighters to rip off part of the Grimm to used against itself and having Nora drive it home.

No grand battleplan or campaign march necessary. Just tactics to achieve a strategic goal of 'win the fight'.

Katy is visiting Jaune to apologize for how things ended. She notices how Pyrrha is struggling to confess her feelings. She decides to help by getting Jaune to overhear her talking about it.

My interpretation of Jaune's backstory is a little more out there, but I've always liked the idea that he suffers from some form of amnesia. It could explain why he seems to lack knowledge of certain things and why he rarely talks about his past. There's also a lot you could do with that concept, especially when it comes to exploring his family, his childhood, and the things he might have forgotten.

Another idea I've considered is that Jaune's Semblance is only half of what it can actually do. The way I see it, what can be given can also be taken. And I'm not just talking about Aura, either. What if his Semblance could also take or transfer other people's Semblances? It would add an entirely different dimension to his abilities and make his Semblance considerably more interesting.

You could even make this work as a kind of exchange or contract. Jaune can heal or strengthen someone, but in return, he has to take a portion of their power. Almost like, "I can heal you, but I need to take a little of your power in return." This could also serve as a way of balancing his abilities rather than letting him give people unlimited Aura without any consequences.

A more unusual possibility is that what he's actually absorbing isn't just Aura or someone's Semblance, but a small piece of their soul. That could come with some pretty serious drawbacks. By taking fragments of other people's souls, Jaune might also start taking on their negative traits, memories, emotions, or even parts of their personalities. Over time, he could lose parts of himself as those influences accumulate, potentially to the point where he destroys his own identity.

That last idea is definitely more out there, but I think there's a lot of interesting potential in exploring what Jaune's Semblance can give and what it might take away in return.
