This is canon Ami.
Less than useless compared to the non-canon others.

 

Now she is not less than useless. She has a very competent and respectable stat block for a Genin. It's just Clan hier are expected to come out swinging like Chunin, pwn low Jounin at chunin progress and rapidly ascend to the head of the Jounin pack in like a decade where normal badasses migh take two to three decades.

Really I we return her I'd rather see she get placed on a team for keeping up in a tired exhausted redundant way when we've been running them on Anbu drills.

 

I said, she was less than useless compared to the non-canon others.
That means compared to this SakuraCrazy, a Naruto that can survive the loss of and only takes a week to regrow his entire lower body and a Sasuke that manages to stay away from Sakura.
We have more than enough on our hands.
We shouldn't be wasting time to train what one day could be a decent ninja and takes very badly to the training the other's practically require.
Not exceptional, mind you.
Only decent.

 

Did I somehow hypnotize people into thinking my version of Ami is canon? If so, could someone explain how? I don't remember how I did it. ;

Before I close it, for "That they have to carry around if they want to go anywhere."? Do you mean moving around Konoha on their training program or do you expect them to sleep under it?

 

That's a darn good question. I'd say make them camp out with the damn thing but I doubt Sakura could keep her hands to herself all night. Poor Sasuke wouldn't get a damn bit of sleep. We want them to get as much rest and energy as possible so we can run them into the ground harder during the day.

 

People have very short attention spans and can only remember the most recent characterization they've read in a work they like.
Even if it is decidedly non-canon.
If you want to repeat this incident, write high quality works and update them at a high rate so your characterization is the most prevelant one in people's memory.

Regardless, she's stopped attempting to molest Sasuke for the moment, with a distraction you can prolong that...

Hmm...

You've heard of an odd (but effective) team training method involving a log... perhaps it can be adapted for ninjas?

You split off clones to acquire log and gravity seals while you give the entire team (or more accurately: a team of two, a nutcase and a girl who is starting to seriously question her choice of career) an impromptu sparring session vs jounin level opponent.

Ah, the log has arrived.

You explain that they'll be carrying this log around ("Without Shadow Clones, Naruto.") whenever they aren't doing other training.

"Sensei, is there a point to this?" Sasuke has taken up a policy of putting you between Sakura and himself whenever possible.

"Teamwork of course!" ^_^ "It'll help you coordinate and rely on each other."

"..."

"Oh, Ami? You're now in charge of logistics! Make sure these three have equipment, food and water when needed as they'll probably have some trouble getting it themselves now they're looking after their new friend."

The sight of them trying to get through the academy obstacle course carrying a log is a memory you will treasure forever... (^v^)

You continue your ANBU style group training for the three baby S-ranks and give logistics girl (who you are pleased to note has taken well to her new role) some lighter stuff.

The three are annoyed to varying degrees by the log and with Sasuke making it quite clear he considers it completely pointless. There is one incident of near simultaneous loss of temper which completely destroyed the log, but you generously got them a new and even better one.

Their coordination is improving slowly. Which doesn't mean they trust eachother. Sure, your appropriately worded threats and entreaties about what is best for Sasuke have Sakura watching out for, and assisting, both her teammates (she seems to be conciously fighting her bias towards Sasuke)... But while Sasuke and Naruto are starting to trust each other a bit more, they remain wary of Sakura.

They don't really have any free time the way you're driving them, which mildly annoys Sasuke and Sakura, who want to do jutsu practice/elemental research ("and going out to romantic restaurants with Sasuke-kun!").

For individual training:

Sakura.

Your attempts to find Sakura's physical limits go quite well, you now have an excellent idea of how much force/chakra she can apply, how her various elemental techniques work and how quickly she can react (very). She cannot be worn down and she seems functionally immune to stress. Her obsession with Sasuke is still intense, but it seems her reaction to seeing him after "therapy" was a one-off, either a side effect of the process or just the result of missing him.

You ponder how to test Sakura's ability to deal with an existential crisis without actually causing one (you're not even sure how to cause one, just telling her might not even be believed). Hmm... Oh well, perhaps you'll think of something later?

Ami.

High level ninja actually have very low paperwork requirements unless they're hokage, but you find some for Ami to do in the Hokage's tower and her organization skills prove to be nothing short of amazing! You think Sarutobi might be eyeing her for a permanent position on his staff.

Sasuke.

Trying to teach Sasuke psychology shows little result, perhaps because of your own limitations on the subject. You are more of an assassination and combat ninja than an infiltrator or manipulator.

Honestly, your constant prods and explanations to Sakura (and her own struggles to control herselves) have done a lot more than the few techniques you teach Sasuke.

You suspect there's also an inferiority complex at work here, he doesn't think he'll ever be as skilled at out-of-combat ninja stuff as Itachi so he focuses on his one advantage over his treacherous brother (chakra capacity, and with it more and bigger ninjutsu) in the hope it will give him the revenge he craves.

Hmm... Now that you think about it, you're not even sure whether he really believes he has a chance at killing Itachi or if he just wants to fight him before dying. A problem for later (though you're tempted to go "not my problem" on that).

He takes like a duck to water to the evasion and escape techniques. You throw in a C-rank seal-less fire technique to aid in escaping grapples.

Naruto.

Naruto is already quite creative when it comes to Shadow Clone usage. The extra training can't hurt though.

Two months later you receive a message from the Hokage asking if you could take an A-rank mission to an archipelago south east of Fire Country to wipe out an attempt at starting up a new hidden village (the prospect's leader is no friend of Konoha's). That area is normally managed by Kiri, but what with the civil war all their ninja are busy with infighting.

While deciding whether to accept (and bring your non-Ami gennin along?) you chat with Kurenai (who returned from her absence the same day as Sakura) and Asuma who are discussing taking their teams on their first C-rank mission about now. It would be rather embarrassing if they beat your supposedly uber team to first C-rank wouldn't it?

You check out what C-rank missions are available. There is:
an information delivery mission to Yugakure
an archeology mission to the remains of Uzushiogakure
an investigation mission to a village at the north-western border of Fire Country
an escort mission to Wave
a patrol mission on the border of Oto
a bandit clearing mission in some village in the Land of Rivers
a rescue mission to northern fire country
a diplomacy mission to Takigakure

For future reference: Please do not create write-ins that require every one of several dozen ideas to be addressed (many requiring significant thought to create tangible actions out of (assuming giving up doesn't happen first)), as I will be discarding them from now on.

We're escorting and guarding the important business magnate, Gato, of Gato Shipping Enterprises, as he sets up business ventures to drag the one-horse nation up out of poverty by its bootstraps, aren't we?

Alternatively, or in addition to this, Zabuza is setting up that hidden village mentioned in the A-rank.

 

{X}Take A-rank Bring Genin. That aren't Ami. Make up set them up for it but loan her out to hokage sama. Give cash for her long suffering determination to keep up. You wish her temperament nad determination were in Sakura's body you really do.

Archaeology might be doable.
Wave requires you to go at the very slow pace of a civilian so is less doable. You could try going on the strike mission while your gennin do the escort and meet up with them for the last moments of the trip (if all goes well).

Note: I can guarantee no mission is a straightforward one-update thing.

I wasn't under the impression taking the A-Rank or not was an option, just whether we brought the kids.

 

The Hokage was asking instead of ordering because he knows you are busy with your gennin and he could just send a pair of standard jounin.

 

Well screw that noise. They can live with the disappointment of not getting an official C-Rank. If Asuma and Kurenai feel the need to brag we can be smug in their direction while showing off whoever survives and hinting that they pulled their weight in other ways.

D= Why would you leave Ami behind? That's not good teamwork. It'll be valuable training for her too, to learn how to resupply in a foreign land. Being a master scrounger is part of being a logistic minion too.

I'm very tempted though to vote for archeology too. Discovering some of Naruto's ancestors past might be fun. Too bad we are going to miss Haku and Zabuza.

Sorry about the lack of update, the Kakashi in my head is telling me that given imminent combat is expected, teaching Naruto and Sakura an immediately useful jutsu would be wise (Sasuke too, but he has plenty). There's time to teach one each before leaving.
Do you guys have any preferred focus or jutsu?
Jutsu for Naruto would have to have very low control requirements. Some GM suggestions (I do not know all Naruto ninjutsu so feel free to give other ideas about what you want):
Directed Air Blast: just get a bit of air, put tons of wind chakra into it and send it at the target. Moves pretty fast but disperses after a couple of dozen metres. C rank jutsu for A rank chakra expenditure, no control needed.
Smash: Cram a ton of chakra around your fist and hit someone. Again, a massively inefficient use of chakra but with no control required.
Detonation: Lots of wind chakra in a sphere around you, release to create a shockwave. Naruto can put a LOT of chakra into this if given time to charge up.

Jutsu for Sakura would have to have very low chakra requirements (or massively benefit from efficiency boosts from perfect chakra control). Some GM suggestions (I do not know all Naruto ninjutsu so feel free to give other ideas about what you want):
Hiding Like a Mole: Used to move underground, Sakura's control and elemental conversion allows her to do this while keeping most of her chakra available for other things.
Body Flicker: Harder to block than Replacement and doesn't require an object at the other end. Her range will be pretty low (a dozen metres or so using all her chakra) though and at max range she'd have to wait the fraction of a second it takes to get her chakra back and reintegrated almost defenceless so in practice it'd be just a few metres.
Unnoticability: Actually a very hard genjutsu to master, makes the user less noticeable to others. With Sakura's control this could allow her to stroll into the bedroom of a pair of civilian lovers without them noticing and even chunnin will pay more attention to other things (such as her team-mates). Will likely improve with time/use.

 

Variation of the Air Blast which uses wind's cutting aspect rather then it's bludgeoning one? Let's call it... Ripping gale.

 

As Kakashi I guess it's out of the question to intentionally sabotage Sakura so she learns a jutso that merely paints a big target on her head, hoping that she dies and we get rid of her, right?

[X] Air Blast. We can maybe work on it later to make it more effective like making it cutting and etc.

[X] Unnoticability. This should help her survive even if she can't carry her own weight on team overpowered yet. Alternatively, some first aid jutsus, so Naruto and Sasuke (well, mostly Sasuke) gets an increase in survivability.
