There is now an open testbed of the QQ XF2 upgrade available here. You should be able to log in with your existing username and password.

This is not the final form of the XF2 version. In particular, we will be revising the styles, and the default rich-text editor is subject to changes in the implementation. Other changes may be made depending on feedback.

We welcome any input regarding the quality of the upgrade and the usability and functionality of the new site. We expect this testbed will be open for several weeks, after which we will incorporate feedback and run the final transition.

The testbed is based on a database snapshot from March 14th. It will be deleted after the final transition is made. Please post on the testbed only for testing purposes. Any content posted on the testbed will be lost.

    Updates:

    - The maximum page width has been set correctly for desktop browsers, fixing the excessive margins issue.
    - Avatars have been reverted to squares, not circles.
    - Online status indicator has been disabled.
    - Colors in the light mode have been tweaked to be closer to the XF1 Light Responsive. Further color tweaks are likely forthcoming.
    - Rich-text editor default has been changed to TinyMCE rather than the default Froala. This option is configurable in your user preferences.

The formatting doesn’t look as nice if you upscale the standard text size using the inbuilt font size changer in the website, symbols start overlapping text on the main page it’s really obvious at 32 px but shows at my standard use of 22

I used an iPad if that changes anything

also I can’t click anything in my alerts drop down box to take me anywhere

also also I’m noticing a lot of broken avatar pictures

I'm excited for this transition. I see we can filter threads by wordcount, and that's all I've ever wanted.

I use 2FA and can't log in. Not getting the email.

I can say that my biggest problem with XF2 over the current iteration (which appears present in your implementation) is that I have to zoom into 240% on my browser, rather than 200%, to switch from vertical to horizontal avatar/username/etc.

    eta:
You can already do that. Scroll down to bottom, hit "Thread Display Options," and then minimum/maximum word count is right there.

Is it feasible for the XF2 system to keep the color schemes currently available? I ask as a user of dark mode, as it is easier to the eye compared to the light color scheme.

The emulated site's dark mode has a greater focus on the grey scale color scheme used for the window where one types the message for posting.

So, instead of a black background with a very dark grey for posted content--with the text itself being a light grey that contrasts nicely with the post's background for great legibility, the XF2 site's current color scheme for dark mode has the text being closer to the background in luminosity--thus making it harder to read in comparison.

Strangely enough, the font color used for the thread titles is too bright compared to current QQ's Blue font for thread titles.

Aside from those visual nitpicks that gave me a slight visual tiredness? Site works right for me so far. :)

Fun thing? The light color scheme for the site is crispy clear compared to this one's, so it is already shaping up to being a good upgrade for everyone involved.

My profile picture on there is an older one that I changed a long while before March 14th. It wouldn't happen to be from Marth 14th, 2022, would it? If not, there might be some database shenanigans going on.

Dark theme seems fine ish, though I'm hoping Dark Responsive High Contrast makes a quick apperance. No other effort for testing available.

Long as the 'Blackend-Purple' style makes it over there, I guess I'll cope.

I feel I was attracted with candy only to receive a blast of light straight to the retina. Oh boy is that shit bright. It looks meh and the dark theme is rather gray. Otherwise *shrugs*

So the only thing that I am worried about - And admittedly, you mention that the rich-text editor isn't going to match the final one - but the default xf2 rich text editor is absolutely terrible for the creation for tables. Everything else about the upgrade I am super excited for!

Inserting media from twitter and the NSFW stuff aren't showing. I'm guessing this can't be solved on QQ's end right?

Would like a theme that's like the "XenForo Default" theme currently there, but dark. The "Dark" theme currently there converts a lot of things into ALLCAPS (forum groupings on the main page, timestamps of posts in threads) which is unpleasant.

Finally, I'll be able to scroll without having to pre-size the page.

On this forum, no matter what magnification I'm at, every time I go to a new page it will be "slidey". As in, if I swipe to the left or right the page will move in that direction before settling back to the middle. To stop this, I need to use two fingers to swipe inward as if I were minimizing the screen.

The xf2 forum doesn't have this issue.

I am currently getting an error prompt above the usual stuff when I used the ‘show all’ page for the alerts.

    • Template public:alert_post_op_insert: [E_USER_WARNING] Template public:alert_post_op_insert is unknown (src/XF/Template/Templater.php:692)

    addition data:

I am running on an ipad using the chrome app.

Everything looks fine and seems functioning despite some weird ’read’ notifications that I have never seen before and missing profile pictures.

p.s. sorry about the text instead of a image but I am not sure hot to upload a screenshot using my ipad.

The banner or description over start of the thread is rather… big? Unusual maybe. I don’t know how I feel about it as I am used to qq without it, but the description field for threads is a great addition; maybe if you could add a hide and reveal function for that something.

it is rather minor though and something that I would get used to.

In the watched threads list, the various forums listed under each thread act as a filter in the watched list, rather then as links back to those forums as they currently do. Is it posible to change that back to how it currently is, acting as a link to the forum, rather then as a filter? I found it very inconvenient when SB and SV both switched that function, to the point it actually cut down on my engagement with those sites significantly.

Ugh, it's so ugly, i hate it.

Why can't we just stick with the current platform? Or at least, what's stopping one from keeping the same aesthetic.

Story tags showing up in alerts is definitely undesirable.
Alerts showing the time you read them just seems like clutter.

All alerts for threadmarked updates are borked. Seems everything in .fauxBlockLink is missing, which is.. basically everything.
I wonder if this template is responsible for the inside of alerts, and is breaking on threadmarked alerts. The template error also shows up in console when you open the alerts drop-down.

Finally, the important bit. Does moving to emoji reactions mean we lose the Likes Received counter? How will I feed my addiction to number-go-up-ium?

Mostly the risk of the site dying to an asshole hacker with a crusader's complex.

I still remember how some asshole hackers ruined the forum of another porn site to the point of total loss via data corruption. The way they succeeded? It used phpBB as its base, and was cracked open via exploitation of its weaknesses.

XF2 is at least current and more armored against such attacks--to my knowledge.

I believe the key question would be: can XF2 options be adjusted to reflect this site's current options as close as possible? If the answer is yes, all we can do is be patient to see the end result. :)

Security issues since XF1 does no longer get update patches. Do you WANT to just stick to it until someone decide to make it all crash? I think not.

The style can be modified, but the move to XF2 WILL happen.

I don’t work on the project nor I am aware of xf2 but I just figured it was probably just a database issue on the backend propagating to user side, an missing field or something in the query.

please don’t take this as anything but speculation from a outsider to the admins and devs!

Nice, although having some issues with getting images and pfps to properly display.

Mine seems to be squished into the corner and tiny even after readjusting a little bit. Likewise, the logo doesn't look like it scaled properly on the homescreen.

My only request is please make it so that, when you're viewing your watched threads, when you click a forum a thread is in, it takes you to that forum (the current behavior), instead of filtering your watched threads to that forum. There's already a filter button if a user needs that functionality.

The aesthetics of the testbed are a bit worse, but I imagine that's easy enough to change once the technical changes are done. Flexile Dark my beloved

Hm. I think it mostly looks alright. Though it is hard to tell what notifications are new as they all look the same. And I don't like the circular avatars. It kinda messes with mine.
