Proper medicine, alternative medicine, and fake medicine

A rather interesting but off topic discussion needs to be moved from where it started in Stupid Shit on SB [Rants], to a thread where it isn't wildly off-topic. So, here is a thread for it.

 

I still say it would be super fucking awesome if voodoo rituals could cure diseases.

 

Well, yes. Right now, though, it's an awesome placebo, at best.

 

True. Voodoo rituals are still pretty cool to participate in and a great place to hook up with women who believe in voodoo.

 

one thing i've noticed is that since aloe vera creams aren't regulated as a medical product you can get a better result from the plant itself.

 

Yes. I keep an aloe plant specifically to deal with minor scrapes and cuts as well as sunburn. My grandmother got me to do it and I don't regret it. In the long run it's been a lot cheaper than buying shit like sunburn cream or Neosporin.

 

Yoga and it's ilk actually works for small scale sickness and bad moods.

I wonder how tantric sex would feel like...

 

Here's one: Gypsum-laced drink. Supposedly reduce 'inner heat'.

The drink itself actually taste pretty good. Sorta like fruit-flavored mineral water with a subtle menthol tang. At least the Cap Badak brand.

 

Um... what? What the hell is "inner heat"? Is it supposed to be a fever treatment? Is it supposed to be a cold drink? I have many questions...

 

A group of symptoms that include red eyes, profuse sweating, irritability, loss of concentration, and fatigue. Brought about by a diet with too much fried or spicy food, consumption of alcohol, stress, smoking, late nights and/or a humid weather.

Kinda like 'masuk angin' (lit. 'Enter/Inner Wind')', which also had remedies for sold in stores.

 

So it's a treatment for hangovers, gas, being tired, and just generally being hot because it's a hot day? Wow. What a wonder drug.
