Advice for a new write

Im relatively new to both writing fanfic in general and definitely new to posting said fanfic. I've read on QQ for a few years now, but im not that certian about how to go about things as a writer.

Like, my first post is an intro to a Quest im starting but im not really sure how long I should give for people to actually post votes and stuff. Is it generally 1-2 days or so?

Generally, you should give at least an hour so for people to get in, but some people will go days or more between updates. In general, as long as you're not slamming updates so fast that no one can reply, you're pretty good.

If quests are your first intro to fanfic writing, it might be a good idea to at least dabble with plans of stories led purely by yourself, at least as ideas in your drafts or similar.
Getting too focused on a format where the plot isn't entirely in your hands like quests or diceroll led fics can lead to struggles in planning out a longform story, which can hurt even quests if they don't have any aim or purpose. Exploring other avenues, even if you're not sure on publishing, can be a good way of making sure you're able to realise those ideas if you have a story you fall in love with and want to tell down the road.
