Nar Kaaga

The ship came out of hyperspace at the edge of the system, right outside the sensors of the new Hutt fleet. Over time, the number of ships entering the system had slowed down considerably. The two-hundred-strong fleet was the single largest fleet gathered in one system in recent memory.

He patted Ventress on the shoulder, taking the helm. He pulled on the dimensional energies, breaking the space in front of the ship into fragments. They were out of sight and undetectable to sensors, but the crystalline parts would act as unbreakable surfaces. One wrong move would be deadly.

"You are good at this," Ventress said. He weaved through the spikes and shards like a pilot with decades of experience, not a boy of fourteen.

"How many times did you fly a ship?" she asked.

"This is the second time."

"You must be joking."

He smirked, combing a hand through his hair. "What can I say, Ventress? I am a natural."

"This isn't just being natural. Force must be aiding you."

"Ugh, don't mention the Force to me," he groaned. Even the mention of it brought that infernal vision to his mind. And the fact that the Force had created him.

"Why not? We should even get your midi-chlorian count checked out," she suggested. Out of respect for his privacy, she did not peer into his signature in the Force. What she felt superficially painted him as a powerhouse.

"It's over twenty thousand, even higher than Yoda's. The Jedi think I am the Chosen One."

Qymaen hacked, caught in a sudden coughing fit.

"Are you?"

"I don't know, and I don't give a bantha poodoo."

"Chosen One of the Force and a student of the Mystic Arts. I wonder what other surprises you have."

"You'll see," he said cryptically.

Ventress rolled her eyes, reaching across to flick the boy's ear. Just as she was within striking range, the collar of his cloak struck her hand like a whip.

"What in the Force?" she hissed, pulling her hand back. The collar was wagging back and forth, like it was warning her.

"Did your cloak just hit me?"

"It did."

"More Mystic Arts?"

"The Cloak of Levitation is an artifact, a sentient one at that. He is actually my master's but agreed to come with me rather than being stuck down there."

"Why is your master not joining the war?"

"There are shackles on his soul. They keep him confined to a specific area."

"Which means there are things that can stop you."

"Considering it is the power of the first demon, Chthon, that he had to use to save his home, yes," he said. He was researching a way to cleanse the corruption in his teacher's soul, but it was proving to be difficult. He might have to consider alternate solutions to this conundrum.

"Let us leave this conversation for later. We are close to the ship," Qymaen said, keeping an eye on his brother. He thought there would be a cost to what the Mystic Arts could do. Being a prisoner of one's own soul was certainly a horrible price to pay.

Anakin guided the ship inside the Lucrehulk, following a wing of vulture droids. The organic crew of the Hutt fleet were being instructed by Neimodians on the operation of the ship. B1 and B2 model droids were working around, mainly carrying supplies.

He landed the ship at the furthest side of the hangar, away from any possible collusion.

"Alright," he said, opening a portal outside. He went first, with Ventress and Qymaen behind. The Izvoshra followed. Artoo beeped, strapped to Rrakkis' back, demanding to be let down.

"Just hold on tight, Artoo," he said, jogging forward. His physical condition was great, owed to years of training. His companions weren't lacking either. The presence of the droids slowed them down considerably to avoid any accidents. The droids would be fine, but they didn't share that fortune.

From the hangar on the right wing to the control system deep in the bowels of the ship, they had to cover a distance of one and a half kilometers. With their current speed, it would only take ten minutes.

The central control system was defended by droidekas. Heavily shielded with more than enough firepower to mow down squads, it was a dangerous weapon. They were inert, though.

Given there were no dangers to the ship, it made sense they would be inactive. Any detection of an activity would wake the two dozen droids. Even then, he could deal with them easily.

"We should retreat," Ventress said, eyes locked on the old, distinguished gentleman before them. With a white beard and hair, he was dressed in a set of dark tunics and trousers, touting a brown cape with two lightsabers at his belt. He was speaking to a Hutt, the new speaker of the Council.

"If an alliance between us can be reached, we can supply the mighty Hutt Council with all the weapons they will ever need."

"That's Count Dooku. The queen knew he had something to do with Nute Gunray, but the details weren't clear. I don't know how good you are, but he is deadly."

Anakin rolled his eyes. If Count Dooku wanted to negotiate a treaty with the Hutts, then he was going to die too.

"Stay back," he warned. As he exited the Mirror Dimension, he brought his hands together, thumb, ring, and pinky curled, index and middle fingers straight. His left hand was lower than his right, with extended fingers on level with his right palm. A line of eldritch energy gathered, transforming into two mandalas on his hands. He crossed his arms at shoulder level and thrusted his hands forward.

Count Dooku sensed the immediate danger through the Force. He pulled his lightsaber, trying to block the eldritch lightning bolts.

Unfortunately for the Sith lord, the Sith lightning was nothing compared to the Bolts of Balthakk. Twin eldritch bolts struck his lightsaber, splitting into many smaller bolts that bypassed his defense. They charred small sections of his flesh, mostly his shoulders and abdomen, eventually short-circuiting his lightsaber.

He redirected the bolts.

They pierced through the shields of the droidekas, annihilating the two dozen droids.

Finally, he dismissed them, standing before the whimpering Hutt and Count Dooku, screaming in pain like a wounded animal.

"Sithspit," Ventress cursed. One of the best lightsaber duelers and the strongest Force users out there was taken out with a single spell. He didn't even have the chance to defend himself.

Anakin strolled to the Hutt, opening a portal beneath him, straight to Tatooine.

He put his foot on Dooku's neck, cutting his airway. "Wait," Dooku gasped. Any lesser being would have died from those wounds. He could feel the dark side of the Force keeping him alive by feeding on the very pain he was feeling.

"We can negotiate," he offered, choking.

"Like you negotiated with those slavers? No thank you. I would like you to die now," he said, pressing harder. He took a deep breath, trying to pull his feet back, but found an invisible force keeping them there.

"I can give you a more valuable target." Dooku's struggles got weaker. Even the dark side couldn't negate an organic's need to breathe.

"Oh?" he said, pulling his foot back, letting the Sith take gulps of breath. "Who would that be?"

"Gunray," Dooku struggled to say, crawling away from him.

"Nute Gunray? The Viceroy of the Trade Federation?" he asked for confirmation, eyes shining.

"Yes, him! He is on Nar Kaaga now."

"Summon him here and you are free to go," he said. This would be a great gift to Padme and an even greater blow to the prestige of the Hutts. They couldn't even protect an individual like Nute Gunray in their own space.

"We should not forget what we came here for," Qymaen hissed. Already the klaxons were blaring. An army of droids would be upon them soon.

"Don't worry. Not only are we going to win, we are going to take Gunray too. Let's see anyone sell weapons to the Hutts after that."

"He is right. If Gunray is captured, no weapon seller will risk inviting his wrath," she said, watching the almighty Count Dooku crawl away like a cowardly Weequay. It brought a smile to her lips to see a Jedi, even if a former one, so helpless.

"Call him now, Dooku. Even the dark side can't keep you alive forever. Also, order the ship to stand down."

"Viceroy, meet me in the droid control center. Immediately," he ordered, falling on his face, unable to move out any longer.

"Understood, my lord." Gunray's voice came, high-pitched as if he were caught doing something he shouldn't.

"What a loyal little minion."

"He will die if we don't do something," Ventress said. She didn't care if Dooku died. She only wanted to see what the sorcerer would do to report back to the queen.

Anakin was already reaching through a portal, taking out a tube of bacta on a syringe. He handed it to Ventress, letting her experienced hands stabilize Dooku.

"Commander, stand down. It was merely a demonstration," Dooku said, his breath coming out with grunts.

"Are you certain, my lord?"

"Yes!"

"Apologies. Standing down now."

"Artoo, handle the control center," he ordered. In his mind, he was doing the breathing exercises to calm his anger. This bastard wanted to ally with the Hutts, to sell them weapons to continue their oppression. He had made a promise to Padme, something he almost broke, and didn't want to be a cold-blooded murderer.

No matter how much people like Dooku begged for it.

Stabilized for now, Dooku fell into a slumber. He would need medical attention soon. For now, his chances of survival depended on Gunray's speed.

Either Gunray was very loyal or very afraid. It had taken the Neimoidian five minutes to reach the control center, riding a hovercraft. "My lord, I came as quickly as I could."

He stopped, seeing the state of the area. He screamed for help, but Ventress was quick to pull him towards herself with the Force, laying him low with a spinning kick. He went out like a light.

"Nice," he said, dropping him right inside the throne room on Theed.

Artoo retracted his scomp link, beeping that it was done. Anakin opened a portal back to Strange Tides, allowing the team to move in. He blasted out of the hangar, reaching outside the weapon range of the fleet to watch the show.

It did not disappoint.

Each ship considered itself a member of a different faction, and the rest were the enemy. Ones who had to be destroyed with maximum prejudice. Entire wings of vulture droids suicide bombed the nearest enemy ship. Within such close range, each ship had clear firing solutions. The horrible targeting software of the droids was negligible in these ranges.

He recorded every single second of it.

One Lucrehulk, going down in flames, accelerated forward, slamming through a Munificent-class frigate before meeting another Lucrehulk head to head. The explosion was glorious, leaving several more frigates out of action.

Providence classes were low in number but made up for it with their firepower. They barreled through from one end of the battlefield to the other, raining turbo lasers, shattering the frigates like toys.

He wanted to dance in the light of the explosions.

While the Hutt Fleet tore itself apart, a solar sailer sped away from the battle. Its occupants, the heavily wounded Count Dooku and the medical droid he kept aboard, barely made it out under the intense firefight. It was only due to the fact no droids targeted them, too busy scraping each other.

His condition was critical.

Once the ship was in hyperspace, the droid worked to stabilize his condition until a more adequate medical facility could be found. In his sedated state, his mind raged. That green boy had defeated him without any effort. He, a Sith lord, Darth Tyrannus, had lost like a Jedi initiate might lose to Yoda.

Not only that, he had to sell Nute Gunray to survive.

His master would be enraged, and Tyrannus would feel every single bit of it. Gunray had to be silenced immediately before that coward gave away their plans. He didn't know where the sorcerer had sent him, but Tatooine was the only possible location.

Any alliance with the Hutts was gone as well. Not only was their new speaker gone, so was the fleet sold to them. This loss would officially destroy any resemblance of prestige the Hutt Council had.

The sorcerer was more dangerous than he could have imagined, and he didn't know what to do.

Naboo

Theed Royal Palace

Padme was reading the latest state of Naboo's arms production in silence. Her handmaidens were in the room as always, keeping watchful eyes for any possible dangers. They tensed, as did she, when another one of Anakin's portals opened. Different from the rest, this one was opened parallel to the floor in the air.

The unwilling passenger that came out of it almost had her eyes popping out of her skull.

Nute Gunray had just fallen at her feet.

Her handmaidens leaped to action, blasters out, pointed at the still form of the Viceroy of the Trade Federation. Seile knelt down, checking for a pulse. "He is alive," she reported, taking her place.

"Oh, this is the best gift I received in years," she whispered, a shudder going through her body. "Take him to the cells. I want him watched at all times. In fact, no one except you are allowed in the cells."

"Yes, Your Majesty," they repeated as one, dragging the Gunray out.

Padme burst out shrieking in joy. She didn't know how, for the life of her, that Anakin managed to find Gunray. Last she heard, he was on a mission to destroy the Hutt Fleet.

Which meant Nute Gunray was in the Nar Kaaga system. Knowing the trillions of credits and other currencies that the Hutts spent to buy such a large fleet, it wouldn't be surprising for Gunray to be there. He would no doubt try to sell more, promising discounts for bulk purchases.

For such a large transaction, no one else but the Viceroy of the Trade Federation would do.

She called Ventress' hyperspace communications link. While they should still be in the middle of the operation, Gunray's capture showed promise.

"Your Majesty," Ventress greeted, a lazy smirk on her face.

"Asajj, what happened?"

"I assume you received the Sorcerer's gift?"

"I did. And what a gift it was."

"We are still in the Nar Kaaga system, waiting for the fleet to finish destroying itself. I'll send a written report as soon as the fireworks are over. You will love what he has done," she promised. Padme bit her tongue, wanting to ask more. However, her agent was on a battlefield, and anything could happen. A bit of patience would save them from a host of potential troubles.

"I can't wait. Padme out."

Ventress winked out with a bow.

She stretched, feeling lighter than she had in years.

In the next chapter:

Where had that accursed Sorcerer sent him?

"I demand to see my senatorial representative!" he demanded. There was no doubt someone was watching him.

His struggles ceased as the door opened. A woman, one he knew very well, entered the room. Gunray felt cold, as if he were exposed to the cold vacuum of dark space.

"Nute Gunray. I have been searching for you ever since the Senate, in its corruption and mind-bogglingly slow bureaucracy, allowed you to remain free."

"You can't touch me," he squeaked out. "I have been acquitted of all charges."

Her grin would put the fear of death in a Trandoshan. "Of course I can't touch a person that is not here."

Naboo

Theed Royal Palace

He came to his senses with a gasp of air. His head snapped around wildly as the memories of his capture came to mind. He left the seat to run for the exit, but he found his leg bound to the table with a cuff. The room was white and pristine, not the rugged prison one would expect on Tatooine.

"Whatever do you mean?"

"You were captured in Nar Kaaga, nowhere near Naboo. Who would think to look for you here?" she asked, enjoying the look of realization on Gunray's face.

"But...but you believe in democracy and the rule of law."

"I do. Since neither seems to exist in the Senate anymore, at least not as they should, why would your acquittal concern me?"

Gunray whimpered.

"Don't worry though. We are not savages. As long as you tell me everything I want to know, you won't receive a single scratch."

"If I don't?" he asked, gulping.

She slammed her palm on the table, startling Gunray. "I will do to you what that monster of a Zabrak did to my friends. You will not die before you feel the pain each one did."

"I don't know anything. I am a pawn in all of this," he cried out.

She leaned across the table, her glare boring a hole in his skull. "Darth Sidious and his master were the architects behind Naboo's invasion. You will tell me who Sidious is."

"I don't know. He only contacted me through holocalls and the Zabrak."

"What were you doing with Count Dooku?" she asked without losing a beat.

"Sidious wanted me to follow him. They didn't tell me the details."

"So you are useless," she sneered.

"Wait!" he screamed, raising his hands, taking deep breaths.

"He has great influence in the Senate. That's how I stayed out of prison."

Padme rolled her eyes. "Tell me more."

"I don't know how far his reach extends. He keeps everything to himself."

She sat down, groaning. "Which means you had no reason to know anything important since he intended to dispose of you," she said, realizing that Gunray was indeed a pawn. One as useful as the Trade Federation's ships and armies.

The fool was too much of a coward to be entrusted with anything.

"Take him back to his cell. He can stay there until I know what to do with him," she ordered. Two handmaidens walked inside, unlocking the cuff. They held him by the arms, dragging him away.

"Wait, you can't deny me representation. It is against the rule of law."

"You can either stay in your cell silently, or I can hand you back to the Sorcerer of Tatooine. I wonder what he will do to you for selling weapons to the Hutts," she said, an innocent smile on her face.

Nute found it hard to swallow.

Padme left the cells with a skip to her steps.

Tatooine

Fort Freedom

Even before he landed on the planet, he was sending the recording everywhere. This victory demanded to be shared, to be known to everyone. When Strange Tides landed on Fort Freedom, it was to a procession surrounding it.

The chants of "Sorcerer" and "Freedom" were music to his ears. He stood with the people until he was too tired to do so.

Strange whistled.

"Good job Anakin," he said. Destroying a fleet of two hundred with just five people and a droid was a blow to the Hutts. One they couldn't hope to recover from in the short term.

Anakin beamed, rubbing the back of his head.

"This deserves a celebration. Let's fire up the grill," Strange said.

"I was thinking, could I bring some people over?" he asked. Technically the Sanctum wasn't exactly a place one could invite people for a celebration. Given it was only the three of them, an exception could be made.

"Who?" Strange asked.

"Corlen, Vega, Sinya, Qymaen, and Asajj."

He shrugged. "As long as you trust them, sure."

He returned five minutes later with a diverse crew of humans and aliens. His extraterrestrial encounters were few. Thanos, his minions and army of beasts, and of course, the alien members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Thor and Loki were among that list as well.

Anakin's comrades were a wildly different bunch.

The pink-skinned female with tentacles going down from her head to her back and her heart-shaped face was a nice sight. The Kaleesh Warlord, Qymaen, on the other hand, inspired dread with his skull-shaped mask. Asajj Ventress looked like a human with a skin condition.

"Greetings." Qymaen stepped ahead first, giving a slight bow.

Strange returned it. "Welcome to Sanctum Sanctorum. I am Stephen Strange."

"An honor to meet Anakin's mentor. I am Qymaen jai Sheelal."

"This is my mom, Shmi, and C-3PO, our droid," he introduced. His mother gave a small wave with a quiet "hello."

"I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations. It is a delight to meet Master Anakin's friends," Threepio began. Knowing he would not stop, Anakin ordered him to help his mother with the food.

Ventress and the rest introduced themselves as well. If they were unnerved by the dark tears oozing out of Stephen's wounds, they didn't show it.

"A communal roast?" Qymaenn asked. It usually happened over open fire, but the patties and the chops Stephen was cooking over the metal grill smelled delicious.

"We call it a barbecue party. It's a great way to celebrate," he said, flipping a patty over.

He took a deep breath, feeling his stomach gurgle. "Couldn't agree more."

"Where exactly do you call it a barbecue party? You don't look like a native of Tatooine," Asajj said. He was too pale, and the attire wasn't what one would wear on a desert planet.

He took a deep breath. "On Earth, which is most likely in another universe."

"Another… universe?" Ventress blinked, tilting her head.

"Oh yes. I was transported here with the Sanctum after battling a primordial life form known as Dormammu, who wanted to eat my planet," he said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"Did you…" Qymaen hesitated. Could he ask him if his whole planet world was gone?

"Lose?" Strange raised an eyebrow. "I used a dark artifact to keep the Sanctum's protective barriers from failing to repel him. While the building is here, those particular barriers didn't come with me. Provided another cosmic threat didn't destroy Earth, it should still be there," he said.

"Force…" she muttered, lost for words.

Qymaen put his fist on his shoulder, bowing deeper than before. "A great mentor and a great warrior."

"Thank you."

"Anyway, enough about my deeds. We are here to celebrate your victory," he said, handing a plate of bantha patties to Threepio for assembly into hamburgers.

"Honestly, it was pretty much him. The five of us could not have defeated Count Dooku," she said. He was strong in the dark side of the Force.

"A former Jedi, right?" Strange asked. Given Anakin had almost killed him with a single spell, he didn't believe they had anything to worry about when it came to any potential confrontation with Force sensitives.

"Indeed. His old master, Yoda, is the Grandmaster of the Jedi. I don't know how strong he is exactly, only that he is."

"Former or not, it was very amusing to see a Jedi fall so easily," Qymaen said, gathering his arms behind his back.

They gathered around the table, ready to feast.

"Will that be all, Master Ani?" Threepio asked,

"Ani?" Ventress snorted out her water, smiling at Anakin.

He rolled his eyes. "Yes, Threepio, that's all. Go charge."

"Where did you get the goldilocks?" Corlen asked. The droid was a chatterbox. His personality must never have been deleted.

"I built him from scraps I gathered," he said, gesturing towards his shed.

"And a talented engineer too," Ventress said. Not everyone could bring parts together and build a droid.

"Do you remember telling me about Tony Stark and his Iron Man armors?" Anakin asked his teacher.

"Yes?"

"Do you know anything about the details?" Between his training and tinkering with the droids, he considered the idea of creating power armors for Freedom First.

"Not really. Stark's tech was decades beyond what the governments on Earth had. He had nanobots that constructed the armor out of a palm-sized device and a virtually limitless source of energy. He also had the most advanced AI on the planet."

Sinya swallowed the half-chewed hamburger, forcing it down with water. "Your planet sounds very interesting." An armor of those specifications would change the battlefield forever.

"You have no idea."

"Come now, you must tell us some stories," Qymaen said, intrigued.

"There is Thanos the Mad Titan, Scarlet Witch, and the first time I fought Dormammu."

"Mad Titan? Sounds interesting," Vega said.

"Interesting is one way to look at it."

"You didn't bring anything else from your universe, did you?" Ventress asked, her food left half-eaten on her plate. One alien gathering six shiny stones to wipe out half the life in an entire universe just so the other half could prosper was beyond insanity.

"Just the Sanctum," Strange said, waving his knife in a circle.

"Great, because your universe is a place of madness."

"I thought the Jedi were bad," Qymaen muttered. One snap of fingers and it was death on a scale his mind could not comprehend.

"How was a monster like him allowed to exist?" Corlen asked. Had no one attempted to even consider stopping the alien that wanted to erase half of all life?

"We didn't have a Galactic Republic. The governments that existed either had no reason to hunt Thanos or were afraid," he said. Strange was only aware that Thanos waited for Odin's death to act.

"Ky Narec, the Jedi who trained me, told me the stories of the Sith of old and how terrible their power in the dark side was. They seem amateurish now," she said. Sure, stripping a planet of all life and destroying a star or two was the stuff of legends. Killing half of the sapient life in the universe was surreal enough; she had trouble feeling anything towards it other than emptiness.

"Just a difference in scale."

Qymaen shook his head. "What a difference it is."

"Let's change the subject before I lose my appetite. How did you come to train Anakin?" Vega asked.

"I was stuck here, waiting for rescue. I created some air tunnels for ventilation. Imagine my surprise when this little boy managed to fall through one."

"He was suspicious at first, kept running around, and hid. It took us a bit to understand each other," Stephen snickered. Anakin rolled his eyes in response, preferring to forget that day.

"I first trained him to open portals so we could save Shmi too. After that, well," he sighed, "once I understood nothing would deter him from his fight to eradicate slavery, I decided to give him the best possible chance for survival."

"You have raised a fine warrior," Qymaen praised.

Strange put down his utensils, looking at his student with slumped shoulders. "I wish I didn't have to."

"Why is that?" Asajj asked. Any instructor would be proud to raise such a pupil.

"Back on Earth, he would be considered a child soldier. Someone his age should be worrying about his school grades and girls, not having to spearhead an interstellar war against slavery," he replied. He didn't regret training Anakin, only that it had to be because the boy would head to war.

"I had forty kills to my name by the age of eight. Perhaps in a better galaxy, our worries would be so feeble. But now, we must fight, no matter our ages," Qymaen said.

Strange coughed, reaching for a napkin. "True."

"Same for me. I was ripped from my family as an infant and fought against pirates as a child. Your planet sounds like a peaceful world, but the Outer Rim is a harsh, dangerous place. You can't blame yourself," Ventress said. She had volunteered for this mission to

Strange ruffled Anakin's hair, causing him to protest with a smile. "I don't."

"What's in line next for you now?" he asked, wondering about the state of the war. Tatooine was liberated, the initial Hutt attack was repelled, and now their main force was annihilated. It was already looking great for Freedom First.

"We are going to retrieve the fleet stuck in dark space. After that, we will take Nal Hutta and the Hutt Council," Anakin said. He wanted to stomp the Hutts like bugs, but Padme's words rang in his mind.

Judging the Hutts in a court would give them legitimacy, something they had to have to be more than just a rebellion.

"Queen Amidala will send the Royal Engineering Corps and a host of droids to accelerate the refitting process. She is delighted by your gift."

"Has she learned anything important?"

"Only that Gunray is a pawn, one disposable should it be necessary."

"Right. Perhaps I should have kept Dooku."

"Gunray is a coward. Dooku would not have spoken so easily, if at all."

Geonosis

"Report," the hooded person on the hologram demanded.

Tambor bowed, feeling the displeased tone chill the room. "His state was critical. Severe plasma burns required cybernetic replacement of his right arm from the shoulder. His intestines and lungs were damaged. He needs bacta treatment for at least two more weeks for total recovery."

"And Gunray?" Sidious asked.

"Gone, presumably taken by the Sorcerer."

He waited for orders, for answers, and for demands. What came was the feeling of weightlessness and the invisible hand closing around his throat. He clawed at his neck, trying to breathe.

"Lord Sidious, please!" he begged, gagging on his words.

"Find me Nute Gunray. I will deal with my apprentice once I am certain he won't die," Sidious sneered. He couldn't torture him as he wished if Dooku were to perish. The holoprojection disappeared, leaving Tambor falling to the ground.

He pushed himself up, coughing. Dooku was asleep in the bacta tank, unaware of what was happening. Tambor considered him fortunate for now. Once he was awake, though, he would no doubt feel the full brunt of his displeased master.

"Inform me if there is a change," he instructed the med-droid, leaving the room. Finding Gunray meant acquiring intelligence from Tatooine. Impossible given that the Sorcerer terrified the entire Outer Rim into neutrality.

He would have to try regardless.

He also needed to speak to the remaining leadership of the Trade Federation to immediately phase the central droid command systems out of use. One strike had wiped out an entire fleet, throwing trillions of credits down the garbage disposal.

Whether the loss was the Hutt Council's problem or not didn't matter. It would look horrible on their portfolio to have such a weakness.

In the next chapter:

He came to his senses with a cough.

He felt sluggish, as if he were drugged. Even the Force was not responding as quickly as he preferred. He tilted his head to the left and then to the right, searching for anyone. A medical droid, not the one he had in his ship, was there, adjusting the medicine.

"Report," he said, coughing as his dry throat was irritated.

"You have suffered grievous injuries. Your right arm was unsalvageable. Cybernetic parts have been fitted to your lungs due to the burns. I will inform Wat Tambor that you are awake."

The group learns more of where Anakin came from. Strange has seen and done much indeed, much of it terrifying to those not possessed of great innate power.

Geonosis

He came to his senses with a cough.

He felt sluggish, as if he were drugged. Even the Force was not responding as quickly as he preferred. He tilted his head to the left and then to the right, searching for anyone. A medical droid, not the one he had in his ship, was there, adjusting the medicine.

"Report," he said, coughing as his dry throat was irritated.

"You have suffered grievous injuries. Your right arm was unsalvageable. Cybernetic parts have been fitted to your lungs due to the burns. I will inform Wat Tambor that you are awake."

"Water," he demanded.

Tambor was a puppet; he meant nothing to the grand plan.

It was his master that worried him. The failure to secure an alliance with the Hutts, the destruction of the fleet, and his betrayal of Nute Gunray would not go unpunished. While the Neimoidian didn't know much, the Trade Federation would be displeased to learn that the Viceroy was sold as a bargaining chip so he could save his life.

The droid held the glass to his lips, and he gulped the liquid greedily.

Once it was empty and he could lay down, the machine left, returning with Wat Tambor mere minutes later.

"Count Dooku," he bowed, adjusting the valve on his suit. "Our allies are disturbed by the events at Nar Kaaga."

"Nute Gunray will be retrieved," he assured, though not necessarily alive.

"It is beyond that. You have been asleep for two weeks. The Sorcerer of Tatooine isolated Neimoidia and the colonies from hyperspace lanes. He says it will not be removed until the Trade Federation is held responsible for the sale of weapons and ships to the Hutts," Tambor said. It had come as a shock to many that this young boy would take such an action when the Senate would have debated it for eternity.

Or close enough.

Dooku coughed, feeling his temples flare at the mention of the Sorcerer. "He wouldn't dare, not when they are a part of the Republic."

"Ambassadors have been sent to resolve the situation peacefully. However, he also threatened to blockade all systems containing Trade Federation outposts and factories," he said.

A federation built on trade wouldn't exist without trade.

"That would leave the Republic with no choice but to take military action." His master could certainly convince the Senate to target the Sorcerer. He might have been defeated, but against the full forces that the Republic could bear, he would not be so lucky.

"Our friends in the Senate report that the majority are too afraid their homeworlds would be isolated should the Sorcerer decide to take revenge." It did not stop them from calling for the Sorcerer's head though.

"Leave," he said, too still for Tambor's instincts. He did as ordered, leaving the room with haste.

Dooku screamed, and the Force responded. His fury, hatred, and pain bled into it, drowning him in the dark side. The medical equipment in the room began to levitate. The bacta tank's glass shattered, flooding the room with medicine. The droid itself began to repeat 'error' over and over again.

With one last heave, all the objects were flung away. The med-droid slammed into the wall, its voice module sputtering a string of beeps before its ocular modules went dark.

He breathed raggedly, feeling a sting in his chest with each rise and fall.

Tatooine

Fort Freedom

"The Hutt fleet didn't have supplies for a long campaign. By our estimates, they've been out of food for nearly a week, even with rationing," Corlen said, leaving his place to the Supreme Marshall.

"The main target is the cruisers," Qymaen said, bringing the image of the nineteen ships on the holoprojector. "They create the bulk of the enemy's firepower. It is imperative that we retrieve them in working condition for our attack on Nal Hutta."

"The rest of the ships, while valuable, are not as important. If they can be taken, we shall, if not, leave them."

"We will board the ships depending on the number of living crews they have. Sorcerer and I will lead the teams. Our objectives are to secure the reactors and bridges to prevent any sabotage attempts." He highlighted the mentioned sections. The pirates and mercenaries were motivated solely by their loyalty to credits.

Spite, however, was a powerful motivator.

"Enemy crews will be given a warning to surrender. If they choose to fight, we will do so. Take prisoners if they surrender in battle. Otherwise, no mercy." He stopped, rolling his shoulders. The idea of offering mercy felt so distant to him.

"One last matter. Ventress rose from her seat, bringing an image of a Clawdite female. "Zam Wesell is a shapeshifter. She might try to escape by impersonating anyone. While she is not important, a shape-shifter could infiltrate our ranks for sabotage, provided she is in any condition to be found. Always move in teams."

"Any questions?" Qymaen scanned the room, waiting.

There were none.

"Dismissed."

Mos Espa Spaceport

He boarded the Strange Tides, having already informed his mother and teacher. Soldiers, half Kaleesh and half consisting of the population of Tatooine, boarded the remaining carriers in order. Qymaen's people had trained the soldiers of Freedom First well, transforming them into an inexperienced standing army rather than a ragtag group of rebels. There was still much to do and a lot to learn, but they were on the right path.

Artoo wheeled behind him with Ventress. Eight soldiers, split in half between Kaleesh and humans, took their place on the passenger seats. Anakin took the helm; she was on the sensors, and one of the soldiers manned the guns. Artoo started the takeoff protocols. The engines came alive, and all preflight checks were done in quick order.

He pulled the yoke up, raising the ship to the skies.

"Mystic Strike reporting, we are ready to proceed," came Qymaen's voice from the comms. The repaired cruiser, named Mystic Strike, was fitted with the weapons looted from the Trade Federation by Naboo. Fifty starfighters, mostly the ones sent from Naboo, painted and modified slightly to avoid recognition, waited in its hangars, armed and ready.

Thirty transport ships were behind the cruiser. Three thousand soldiers were overkill against the starving crews of the cruisers.

"Entering hyperspace," he called. He felt the hyperdrive hum, felt the foreign energies fill the machine. The fleet shot forward as one. He brought his hands together, focusing on the fold point.

The visualization of the hyperspace was simple in his mind. A tunnel, one where he could feel the traveling ships as spheres pushing through a sea of sand. The fold points, where the Mirror Space reversed the course of the ships and cleaved that sea in half, were two glaring points.

They were approaching the first one.

He dismissed the fold point by simply dismissing the mirror space from the location, allowing the ships to pass safely.

"The queen says that the Senate is in a state of chaos. There are a lot of voices demanding action against you," Ventress said, watching her young comrade. Padme had advised him to use the opportunity to squeeze credits out of the Federation to support their cause. He had refused, instead disappearing with Strange Tides to cut the lifeblood of Neimoidia off.

His narrowed blue eyes were visible beneath the cowl, as was his scowl. "Did she give names too?"

"What are you going to do, declare war on them?" she asked, crossing her arms. He knew that the queen would be overjoyed to see several senators taken down low. Not at the cost of a war, though.

"Of course not. I am not a warmonger. I am simply going to blockade those planets too," he muttered. Just closing a couple of the busiest hyperspace lanes would have the Republic hemorrhaging due to the disrupted supply chains.

"The Trade Federation representative seems too stubborn to fold. He claims, again, that Gunray was acting on his own, that he is a rogue agent."

He hung his head back, his neck bending to the headrest. "How exactly can the Viceroy of the Trade Federation be a rogue agent?"

"By simply revoking his position. He is no longer the Viceroy, at least not while he is a prisoner."

"They can go f… you know what, forget it," he said, taking a deep breath. While his teacher had taught him that particular profanity by accident, he found it quite fitting to this situation.

"She is simply worried you are making too many enemies." Not that they hadn't earned the ire of many worlds by defeating the Hutts. This was just making it harder to buy anything from the Republic.

"Given I can cripple the entire galaxy without even being caught, those senators should be the ones to worry."

"We are approaching the estimated location of the enemy fleet. All crews, be ready," Qymaen ordered from the comms.

The soldiers unholstered their weapons, sitting straighter.

"Exiting hyperspace in three, two, one," he counted, bringing the ship to a stop. The streaks left small afterimages behind before the stars dotted the darkness of space once more.

"Let's see," Ventress said, watching the sensors. "Nineteen cruisers, sixty ships of varying sizes. All have low power. Two of the cruisers seem dead. Another has its bridge blown out."

"Attention Hutt fleet! I am Qymaen jai Sheelal, the Supreme Marshall of Freedom First. Many of you also know me as Griveous. You are weak, starved, and in no condition to fight. Surrender and you will be treated as prisoners. Those that can respond, do so now. Ships that cannot communicate will have their entire crew moved to the hangar, face first, weapons surrendered to await our arrival," the Supreme Marshall said on an open channel. He spoke as a true general should, confident and steady, as if nothing could shake him in that moment.

"Sorcerer, meet me in Wesell's ship," Qymaen said.

"See you there," he replied, steering the ship towards the cruiser. It was exactly the same as Mystic Strike, aside from bearing the sigil of a different Hutt clan. Its lights were dead in most locations, the guns were silent, and the life signs were lower than expected. He watched the starfighters leave the Mystic Strike in five wings, escorting the troop carriers.

He approached the nearest airlock, angling the ship's dorsal docking ring. He docked the ship in a single pass with a combination of the Force and his prodigious abilities in flying making up for his lack of experience. The indicator light turned green, and the port door split in half, each side moving away to open the way forward.

Since there was no data port to hack the door open, Ventress went forward. Her lightsaber pierced through the metal with no resistance. She pushed it in a circle, leaving a glaring orange line behind, cutting a hole in the door. Once the circle was complete, a Force push sent it clattering on the floor.

Anakin entered first, creating a shield with one hand and creating knives with the other, guiding them with the Force. They had the added benefit of illuminating the dimly lit corridor.

The soldiers took point with Ventress and him at the front, proceeding towards the hangar. Ventress raised her hand just as they were about to turn a corner. The soldiers stopped and raised their weapons, waiting.

Two Weequays came running, looking behind in fright. Ventress pointed her lightsaber at one, and Anakin brought the knives to cover their escape route, and the weapons were immediately trained on them.

Both fumbled, dropping their weapons and falling on their knees.

"Please don't kill us," one begged, breath ragged.

"We won't. What is the status of the crew?" Ventress asked, lowering her saber. They were obviously escaping, but from whom?

"Broken into factions. We were all fighting each other for scraps of food and water."

She smirked. "I assume your faction lost?"

"We are the only ones left."

"Which means they are being pursued," Anakin said, turning the corner. More Weequays came out of the dark corridor, stopping before him, the grins of victory on their faces giving way to wide eyes and fallen jaws.

"It's him, the Sorcerer," one of the pirates said with a trembling voice, taking a single step back. Anakin's blades cast enough light for him to see the terror on the alien's face.

"You have one chance to surrender. I suggest you use it wisely," he said, spreading the blades apart.

One of them lost his grip on his blaster, letting it fall to the ground with a clank. The rest followed on their own volition.

"Brother, what took you so long?" Qymaen asked, seeing Anakin finally reach the hangar.

"Too many stragglers, but I think we got them all," he said as over a hundred pirates were guided inside, his presence alone keeping them in check.

"Wesell is nowhere to be seen, and all the lifeforms we detected are already taken prisoners," he said. Perhaps Anakin had a way to detect the shapeshifter.

"She is dead. Dassik ate her," a Weequay, one of the two Anakin first encountered, said.

Qymaen faced the alien, causing him to yelp. "Dassik?"

"A Trandoshan. He was hungry and took a problem with how she was rationing the food. That's what broke the crew into factions," he stuttered.

He glanced at Bentilais, who was responsible for the prisoners. "Do we have any Trandoshans in custody?"

The Izvoshra checked his datapad. "The Blood Bond team encountered one. He refused to surrender and was killed in action."

"What is the status of the remaining ships?" Anakin asked, floating towards the Kaleesh. This operation was proving to be an easy one.

"The crews are surrendering with promises of food and water. Only the most aggressive members hold out. They are dealt with for the most part."

"Good, good."

"Sinya, how long until we get these ships working and ready?" The sooner they left, the sooner they could begin to prepare for the attack on Nal Hutta.

He could almost taste the victory.

The pink Twi'lek smiled, handing a datapad to Anakin. "The fuel reserves are above fifty percent for the most part. Once the captains understood they were stranded, they shut down all non-essentials to preserve power for the life support systems. We can crew and get them ready to leave in a couple of hours."

Given their situation, it was the smartest thing they could do.

She swiped her finger on the screen, displaying the three damaged cruisers. "Two of the cruisers suffered serious damages to their reactors due to infighting. They will have to be towed along with the one that had its bridge destroyed. The thing is, I don't know where to get a hyperspace tow rig, much less three."

Salvagers were a dime a dozen in the Outer Rim. They simply were too afraid to work against the Hutts, even with the three enormous defeats the cartel had suffered.

"We'll have to repair them here. If not, just strip everything of value and leave them behind," Colren said. They weren't worth the delay.

Notes: Boring chapter, I know. We will have more action soon. I actually considered bringing a Starweird but decided to leave it be for now. We'll have Nal Hutta's invasion and see what the Senate is doing in the next chapters. Also, if everyone who enjoyed this story can leave a like this once, I'd appreciate it to see how many of you dear readers are here because of it.

In the next chapter:

"Lord Tyranus, how are your wounds?"

Dooku blinked, not daring to raise his head. "I have healed well, my master."

"A pity." Sidious' voice turned into a sneer, as if he were addressing a bug. Dooku rose to the air, involuntarily, his windpipe being crushed. He instinctively clawed at his throat, knowing it would do nothing. Not when he couldn't stand up to his master.

Fixing the ships is one thing, crewing them another. Time to start recruiting and training, which is... going to take a while.
