BHBS: Chapter 55 New
"They have," Se-na replied smoothly, interlacing her fingers on the glass desk. "Though I hardly consider the withdrawal of an absurd, baseless lawsuit to be an act of generosity."

Chairman Do's jaw tightened slightly, but he kept his posture composed. "I am a businessman, Dr. Maeng. I recognize when my subordinates have blundered into a minefield. Secretary Han miscalculated your family's equity position, and Director Kang allowed his petty hospital politics to cloud his judgment. Both have been disciplined."

"Disciplined?" Se-na offered a small, cold smile. "You mean discarded because they failed to serve your interests."

Chairman Do stepped closer, resting his gloved hands on the back of a visitor's chair. "Let us speak plainly. My late wife's estate assets remain tied to Ra-ik. The media circus surrounding his cardiac collapse was supposed to be the lever to settle the inheritance disputes quietly. Your intervention threw a wrench into those proceedings."

"My intervention," Se-na corrected in a sharp, dangerous whisper, "was saving a human life from acute ventricular collapse while your legal parasites attempted to turn his medical emergency into corporate leverage."

Chairman Do stared at her, his dark eyes narrowing. For decades, men three times her age had trembled in his boardroom. Yet this young woman looked at him as if he were nothing more than an unpleasant line item on a balance sheet.

"Ra-ik is fragile," Chairman Do said coldly, shifting his strategy. "He is emotional, reckless, and easily driven by trauma. He dragged his broken body to that boardroom thinking he was playing the knight in shining armor for you. He does not understand how the real world operates."

"He understands honor," Se-na shot back without hesitation, her dark eyes flashing with cold fire. "Which is far more than can be said for the man who fathered him."

Chairman Do's breath caught, a red flush rising along his weathered neck. "You cross a line, Dr. Maeng."

"I draw lines, Chairman Do," Se-na said, standing up smoothly from her desk. She leaned forward, resting her palms against the glass, her aura of unyielding corporate power filling the room. "Let me make one thing absolute clear to you. Do Ra-ik is currently under my clinical care. If you or any of your remaining corporate people attempt to manipulate my patients recovery, stress his cardiac workload, or force legal documents into Room 802..."

She paused, her voice dropping into a velvety, lethal register.

"...I will not merely pull my foundation's grants from this hospital. I will personally initiate an institutional audit of the Do Conglomerate's private debt holdings. And we both know whose signatures are on those secondary loan guarantees."

Silence heavy enough to crush steel fell over the office.

Chairman Do stared at her, realizing with absolute clarity that Maeng Se-na was not just defending her clinical boundary, she was protecting Do Ra-ik with the full weight of her family's empire.

Without another word, Chairman Do turned on his heel and walked out, the heavy oak doors closing silently behind him.

Late that afternoon, the rain began to fall over Seoul, painting the floor-to-ceiling windows of Room 802 in soft gray streaks.

Ra-ik was sitting up in bed, his IV line removed, replaced by a simple saline lock on his forearm. His color had returned, the deep pallor of his post-op exhaustion replaced by a steady, healthy pulse on the cardiac monitor.

The sliding door chimed open.

Se-na walked in carrying his evening medication tray. She looked entirely like Chief Surgeon Maeng once again, but as her eyes met his, the icy distance that used to define her presence was gone.

Ra-ik watched her approach, a soft, wry smile touching his lips. "I heard my father left the hospital twenty minutes ago looking like he had just lost a war."

Se-na placed the tray on his bedside table, handing him his oral beta-blocker and a small cup of water. "He simply received a routine medical updates regarding patient visitation rules."

Ra-ik chuckled softly, taking the pills and swallowing them with a gulp of water. "Routine medical update? Dr. Lee told me you practically threatened to liquidate his corporate bonds if he stepped foot on this floor again."

Se-na adjusted the telemetry sensor on his gown, refusing to meet his eyes. "Dr. Lee talks too much. I am considering transferring him to general pediatric rotations."

"Se-na," Ra-ik murmured softly.

She paused, her fingers lingering against his sleeve.

"Thank you," he said, his raspy voice filled with a quiet, grounding warmth. "Not just for what you did in the boardroom this morning... but for standing up to him. No one has ever spoken to Do Hyun-joo like that on my behalf."

Se-na finally looked up, meeting his deep, dark gaze. The quiet afternoon light highlighted the sharp contours of her face, but her eyes held a rare, gentle sincerity.

"I didn't do it for your gratitude, Do Ra-ik-shi," Se-na said softly, her voice losing its defensive armor. "I did it because no patient of mine gets sacrificed for someone else's greed."

Ra-ik looked at her, his smile widening slightly as he reached out, his hand gently touching the sleeve of her coat. "You are impossible, Chief Maeng."

"And you are a clinically difficult patient," Se-na retorted smoothly, though she didn't pull her arm away. "Now rest. Your telemetry looks stable, and if you stay quiet, I might actually let you get discharged by the end of the week."

As the rain tapped softly against the glass window, the shadow of the past seemed to lift from Room 802, leaving behind a quiet, unspoken promise of what was yet to come.

BHBS: Chapter 56 New
Night fell over Seoul, turning thw window in Room 802 into a dark, reflective mirror against the city lights.

Ra-ik sat on the edge of the mattress, his feet resting on the floor. His chest was still wrapped tightly in sterile dressings, the slow, rhythmic green line of the monitor pulsing beside him.

The sliding door chimed open.

Ra-ik expected to see Dr. Lee or Se-na entering with the late-night vitals check. Instead, Chairman Do Hyun-joo stepped into the room. He was alone this time, no bodyguards, no legal aides, no Secretary Han. The formidable titan of industry looked older in the shadows, his coat unbuttoned, his face worn with a strange, hollow turmoil.

Ra-ik's jaw tightened. "I believe Dr. Maeng made it abundantly clear that your visiting privileges were revoked, Chairman Do."

Chairman Do didn't answer immediately. He walked slowly toward the foot of the bed, his dark eyes fixed on Ra-ik's face with an unsettling intensity, searching for something he had spent thirty-five years trying to find.

"I didn't come here as a corporate chairman, Ra-ik," Hyun-joo spoke, his gravelly voice raspy and devoid of its usual booming authority. "I came because the legal teams can no longer suppress what has been set in motion."

Ra-ik tilted his head, his dark eyes narrowing into cold slits. "If this is another legal maneuver regarding the estate, "

"For thirty-five years... I looked at you and your mother and saw a curse," Hyun-joo interrupted quietly, his eyes clouding with bitter memory. "Every time you spoke, every time you looked at me, I felt a burning humiliation in my chest. I convinced myself she brought another man's bastard into my home. I punished her for it every single day, and I spent your entire childhood making you both pay for what I believed was her treason."

Ra-ik sat frozen, his breath hitching slightly. The memory of his past, the cold house, the screams, his mother hitting him in a fit of panicked hysteria right before his suicide attempt, and how he had pushed her away and scared her off just to protect her from the Do family's wrath, rushed back like ice in his veins.

"I thought your mother was an ad, "

"Don't say the word!" Ra-ik barked violently, leaning forward as his voice cracked with raw, explosive fury.

The sudden, violent exertion tore directly through his healing sternum. Ra-ik gasped sharply, a sudden, blinding spike of pain shooting across his ribcage. He doubled over, clutching his chest with both hands as a violent fit of coughing wracked his body.

"Ghh, ! Cough! Cough!"

The telemetry monitor behind him instantly began to chime in sharp, panicked intervals.

BEEP-BEEP-BEEP! HR: 124 BPM -- TACHYCARDIA ALERT

Chairman Do took a startled step back, raising his hands instinctively. "Okay... okay! Don't strain yourself!"

Ra-ik pressed his forearm tightly against his surgical wound, gasping for air, tears of sharp physical agony and surging emotion welling up in his eyes. He forced his head up, his dark eyes red-rimmed and burning as he glared at his father.

"Don't you dare... disrespect her in front of me," Ra-ik rasped out between harsh, shallow breaths. "You broke her mind... you turned us against each other..."

Hyun-joo stood paralyzed, looking down at his suffering son. A hollow, self-deprecating laugh escaped the old man's lips, a sound filled not with remorse, but with deep, sickening despair and poison.

"When your grandmother passed away years ago when you were still a teenager, her private vault was unsealed," Hyun-joo continued, his voice trembling with a toxic, unhinged fury born of pure greed and humiliation. "She knew my obsession with bloodlines. She foresaw the exact day I would try to disown you."

Hyun-joo took a heavy, trembling step closer, his hands shaking at his sides.

"'If Do Ra-ik is ever disowned or proven not to be Hyun-joo's son, he will legally become MY direct son,'" Hyun-joo quoted, his tone laced with bitter defeat. "'And even if neither occurs, the entire trust shall pass directly and unconditionally into his hands upon his thirty-fifth birthday. Until that day, my assets will remain protected under trust.'"

Hyun-joo looked at Ra-ik with a dark, haunted expression, his eyes bloodshot with an overwhelming inferiority complex.

"I only knew she wanted to entrust it all to you at thirty-five," Hyun-joo confessed, his gravelly voice rising into an agitated, bitter snarl. "I was blind to what she actually built into that decree! She did it deliberately, Ra-ik! She forced my hand from beyond the grave!"

Hyun-joo slammed his gloved fist against his own thigh in manic frustration.

"I knew you were not my son! I always knew it! I didn't need any DNA tests to prove it!" Hyun-joo spat, entirely refusing to accept any fault or guilt for thirty-five years of abuse. "But she used me! Even in death, my own mother tricked me! I was tricked into taking that DNA test and publicizing it! I thought if I proved you carried none of my blood, the courts would revoke your rights to her inheritance and give it back to the main corporation! But no one told me about that earlier clause! I walked right into her trap! It's not fair... This is not fair!"

Silence dropped over the room like lead, so heavy it drowned out the sharp chimes of the cardiac monitor.

Ra-ik bowed his head, staring at the polished floor in sheer, disbelieving horror.

BHBS: Chapter 57 New
Thirty-five years of torture. Thirty-five years of his mother being beaten, driven insane, and turning on her own child out of terror. Ra-ik himself bleeding in dark hallways, starving, trying to throw himself off a building, all because this pathetic, greedy old man was so consumed by his own fragile ego and greed that he let his late mother bait him into destroying his own family over a fortune he could never touch.

Low, choked sobs escaped Ra-ik's throat as thirty-five years of buried agony burst through his chest. He wasn't crying just from the physical pain of his surgical wound; he was weeping for the sheer, tragic absurdity of his ruined life.

"What is going on in here?!"

The door slid open with a sharp, forceful slam.

Maeng Se-na stepped into the room, her eyes sharp with immediate alarm as the telemetry warning lights flashed red across the wall. She saw Ra-ik doubled over on the bed, trembling and sobbing in physical and emotional anguish, while Chairman Do stood over him raving like a bitter fool.

In an instant, Se-na's posture turned lethal.

"Chairman Do," Se-na said, her voice dropping into an icy register that cut through the heavy atmosphere like a razor. She stepped directly between Hyun-joo and the bed, shielding Ra-ik with her body. "I explicitly gave orders that you were not to enter this ward."

"Dr. Maeng, this is a private family matter, "

"This is my clinical unit!" Se-na snapped, stepping up right into Chairman Do's space, her eyes burning with pure, unyielding hostility. "Look at his telemetry! His arterial workload is spiking into critical territory! You are actively endangering a post-operative patient!"

She pointed a single, rigid finger toward the open threshold.

"Get out," Se-na commanded, her voice terrifyingly quiet yet absolute. "If you do not remove yourself from this floor in five seconds, I will call hospital security and have you physically escorted off the premises in front of every media camera waiting in the lobby."

Chairman Do looked at Se-na, then looked past her shoulder at the broken figure of Ra-ik weeping silently into his hands.

Without another word, Chairman Do turned on his heel and walked out, the glass doors sealing shut behind him.

Se-na immediately turned back to the bed. She dropped to her knees beside Ra-ik, her hands reaching out to steady his shaking shoulders.

"Ra-ik," Se-na whispered softly, her sharp clinical armor completely melting away as she saw the sheer depth of his heartbreak. "Ra-ik, look at me. Breathe. Please, hold onto your chest dressing..."

Ra-ik didn't answer, but as her warm hands touched his arms, he leaned his forehead against her shoulder, his tears soaking into the fabric of her coat as he wept in the quiet room.

The quiet in Room 802 was thick and heavy, punctuated only by the soft, steady rhythm of the telemetry monitor as Ra-ik's heart rate gradually settled back into a safe register.

Se-na remained by his side, her hand resting gently on his trembling shoulder. She didn't offer empty platitudes or generic medical reassurances; she simply stayed present, letting her calm, unyielding posture act as an anchor while the storm inside him slowly ran its course.

Gradually, Ra-ik's ragged breathing evened out. He lifted his head slowly, using the back of his hand to wipe away the cold dampness from his face. His dark eyes were bloodshot, rimmed with the deep, exhausting weight of thirty-five years of unraveled lies, yet beneath the pain, something solid and unyielding began to crystallize.

He looked up, meeting Se-na's watchful gaze.

"I want to meet him," Ra-ik spoke, his raspy voice quiet, almost barely a whisper, yet firm with sudden resolve.

Se-na's brows drew together, her clinical instincts immediately flaring in protest. She looked at his pale face, his chest still tightly wrapped under his hospital gown, his body barely seventy-two hours out of open-heart surgery.

"He will try to hurt you," she said, her voice laced with sharp, protective warning.

Ra-ik looked at her for a long moment. A faint, quiet expression touched his lips, forcing a painful smile that barely concealed the raw ache in his chest.

"He won't," he replied softly.

Se-na stared down at him, her dark eyes searching his face for any sign of hesitation or post-operative shock. She didn't agree with his assessment, she had seen the poisonous, unhinged malice in Chairman Do's eyes just hours ago, a man driven mad by his own greed and shattered pride.

She nodded slowly, though she was entirely unwilling to believe him.

"Ten minutes," Se-na instructed, her voice dropping into a stern, non-negotiable doctor's register. "I will step outside and clear the room, but I will be standing right past the glass threshold monitoring your telemetry display. If your heart rate spikes above one hundred and twenty, I am coming in with hospital security and ending it."

Ra-ik offered a quiet, grateful nod. "Thank you, Dr. Maeng."

Five minutes later, the sliding double doors chimed open.

Se-na stepped out into the hallway, leaving the room completely empty except for Ra-ik. Chairman Do Hyun-joo stepped across the threshold, entering Room 802 alone.

Without his entourage of litigators and bodyguards, the formidable titan of the Do Conglomerate looked surprisingly reduced. His charcoal coat hung heavily over his shoulders, his hair slightly disheveled, his eyes heavy with the bitter, humiliated defeat of a man who realized his mother had outsmarted him from beyond the grave.
