Can we please get a new alert system?

Can we please steal Spacebattles alert system. I'm tired of getting tons of emails because the author responded to someone in a thread and it isn't a new chapter being posted. I want to be able to limit my alerts to just story threads being updated, not omakes or extras or any of the other stuff.

Yeah looking at alert preferences there is no option for threadmarks. You can limit it to only the thread starter giving you alerts, but like you said you'll still get alerts when they reply to someone, or post a comment, not just when they make a threadmarked post.

Honestly be nice if you could also adjust it for different threads too. Like in the discussion threads I follow I want to receive an alert if anyone posts a comment, but for a quest thread most comments are just people casting their votes so it is pretty annoying.

If you take more then three seconds to look at the alert you would see

The OP, Name replied with # words to the thread ~Thread link~. There may be more posts after this.

The above is a normal post. Notice the part where it stops after the "may be more posts after this."

On the other hand is a threadmarked story post

The OP, @HeWhoMakesTheSunRise replied with 9.3k words to the thread [NSFW] Hebert's Hound(Worm SI as Cu Lancer). There may be more posts after this.
Threadmarks: Rising 4.P
—————-
Notice the "Threadmark: (threadmark name)" is at the end.

But if you feel that strongly about it, go ask Xon how much that software plugin is (guaranteed it's a subscription) then work it out with the admins here to provide them the payments.

-edit. @HeWhoMakesTheSunRise sorry for @ ing you but you were the only alert I had in my list with a threadmarked post.

-edit 2 this is my personal opinion. Although I do agree it would be nice, but the current system works just fine.

You can also use the word count of the post as a quick and dirty litmus test. Most people don't make 3k word responses, so if it's less than a thousand words it's probably not a chapter. Like it's not foolproof but at a glance it's usually a good enough way to get an idea.

Also, just to add on, I don't think Xon has ever actually even made that addon available to purchase in the first place, I can't find it listed among the various ones he sells.

@Orochibito @goblinquest

Honestly? You just need to set your Account Preferences better.

An update more than a year ago changed how things are handled and since then you need custom Preferences to get the alerts back to (mostly) normal.

It still gives you an alert when the Author does a bulk reply to questions (500+ word answer), but other than that you can limit it to just threadmarks.

To do that:

Navigate to Your account > Preferences

Scroll down to Alert preferences.
Tick 'Use custom'.

Untick 'Alert' for:
Adds a collaborator to a thread
Removes a collaborator from a thread
Posts in a watched forum
Replies to a watched thread

Leave 'Alert' for:
The thread starter replies to a watched thread
and pretty much everything else you want.

And then save those changes by hitting 'Save'.

That's it. That should sort you out.

(It sorted things out for me and I haven't had a real problem with it for months, probably more than a year even.)

I rather think OP is asking about a further subdivision on the "Content options" Which is currently:
  • Automatically watch content you create…
      • and receive email notifications
      • and receive OP email notifications
  • Automatically watch content you interact with…
      • and receive email notifications
      • and receive OP email notifications
And asking for the option of only receiving emails on threadmarks.
I'm tired of getting tons of emails because the author responded to someone in a thread and it isn't a new chapter being posted.
He's getting Alerts on his phone for E-mails, not QQ Alerts.

Edit:
On further re-reading he might be asking for even more than that, which is yeah, probably not happening. But the threadmark email option might be a reasonable compromise?

Yes I get emails for every thing an op does in his thread. My emails don't list word counts either. When I'm on the actual site, the alert queue does list word counts and even if it's a threadmark update. I just want to receive emails for threadmarks.
