But yes, that idea is pretty stupid. The USA was the backup for their side, and they had the benefits of not joining the war early and not being on the same continent as the vast majority of the fighting. I don't know if the Central Powers would have won, but the USA showing up broke a literally entrenched deadlock that otherwise didn't look like it was going anywhere any time soon.

The idea that "the US Army didn't exist before WWI" could be technically true, if the military at the time had a different logistical and command structure, enough so that when it was revamped, it was considered a different organization altogether. But I don't think even that applies.

WWI was the war almost everyone saw coming, nobody wanted, nobody could figure out how to stop, and even the winning side was severely damaged. The USA was the closest thing to a winner, because thanks to repositioning themselves after arriving late and suffering minimal fighting and damage on their territory, they became the global superpower.

Been cleaning up my home the last few days. Already threw out several really large trashbags full of stuff I don't need. Like, five 120 liter bags full of stuff I don't need already at the least, and at a glance I'm only halfway done. Waiting for the industrial-strength 300+ liter bags to arrive before I finish up the cleanup.

I also reorganized my manga collection, re-purposed some shelves and finally most of my books are on a shelf now instead of being a human-sized mountain of paper. That's just manga though, I still have a small pile fo regular books I honestly have no idea where to put, but hopefully I'll figure something out soon enough.

Always curious on how normal people amass so many belongings throughout their lives. Five years ago I made a flippant statement that all evidence of my existence could fit in one backpack, later testing had it (mostly) accurate - and five years on still is. Yet family members can somehow amass entire wardrobes (or even whole rooms) of belongings, some of those they still use very regularly (thus not considered clutter).

How do humans use, or even keep track of, so many items?

You'd be surprised how quickly stuff multiplies when you also include the packaging. That's what I've been mostly struggling with - all the cardboard and packing peanuts and bubble wrap for the cheap crap I bought on impulse years ago and was 'totally going to use soon, honest.'

The big industrial strength bags I ordered? Just arrived. In another cardboard box, so more stuff to throw out. The monetary value of the things I threw out until now wasn't all that great.
 
You ever accidentally come across a conspiracy about cans? I because feel tempted to cut my imported can of coffee to see if it has plastic filling like it's American counterparts. Considering how it's made from an objectively stronger material that I can barely press inwards with my fingers on it.

I have a fashion question. What's the point of this see-through body-sock/suit-thing which makes everything but the face itself darker? I don't really understand it but than again I'm American and we tend to freak-out when someone makes themselves darker outside of a tan.

So, there's a couple reasons we can point out for this, at least from a real-life clothing design perspective. Most people don't have perfectly clear skin. There's acne, or freckles, or scars, or uneven tans, or really any number of reasons for splotches or discoloration, and using a sheer underlayer like this allows for a smooth consistent background to drape other clothes over. There's also a pattern/textural aspect to consider, as often times this underlayer is some kind of mesh, which adds another layer of complexity and design to what might otherwise be a boring outfit based on the design or tightness of the mesh pattern. Thirdly, I would say there's an illusionary aspect, as having something like this can help to give off the illusion of slimming down the wearer.

Overall, you can point to this being popular (or at least being used) for the same reasons as you might see fishnets or stockings on women. This is just like stockings but for the upper half.
