As much trouble as you've had with your car, it might be sunk cost fallacy at this point, if you have a guaranteed roof at your destination. Selling it for a bus fare might be the better option, depending on how much stuff you'd have to carry.

Roof might not be guaranteed though. Haven't been watching the hurricane but I think it's hitting around there?

Have you considered just pushing it into a different lot?

Have you tried reaching out to churches in your area? They might be soft enough to let you park there for an extended time.

What's your estimate on total cost to get it to a shop and repaired? I don't know the prices down in Florida.

Got it looked at. The oxygen sensor is fine. The camshafts are misaligned or… fuck I forget. The upshot is 3k+ to fix it.

So it's junk. Off to South Carolina I go.

Fuck it. This might be the better way.

Well, rip out everything worth saving, call a "cash for junk car" place that includes towing away, sell the car, and find a bus.

It gets you out of Pensacola, at least.
 
I never realized how much sentiment I had wrapped up in this damn car til I had no choice but to junk it.

Some part of me sees it as the last part of my Dad. I loved my Dad a lot. He was really cool and fun to hang out with but he didn't do that cringy "be friends with your kids" shit. He was cool and still Dad, if you get what I mean?

Still, there's nothing else to be done.

Just saw Primitive War. Solid 2/5 stars. Bad movie, but not terrible, and there were definitely memorable scenes, but the writing is terrible, the characters are generic, and the dialogue is cliched. The main characters have massive amounts of plot armor, often obtaining no injuries even after getting grabbed and bitten by dinosaurs, right up until they suddenly don't, at which point they die violently. Likewise, the dinosaurs alternate between completely invincible and going down in one-hit, sometimes in the same scene. The dinosaurs keep killing people and then not actually eating them, leaving the corpses completely intact and recognizable except for the wound that killed them, with all of three exceptions: when the Pteranodons kill some guys in a field, when a swarm of velociraptors start eating a guy who killed himself, and when the Tyrannosaurus Rexes start killing people, and the last one seems to be mostly because the Rexes are mostly killing people by biting them in half and swallowing. And there are a lot more scenes where dinosaurs kill people than the three scenes I mentioned.

If you're looking for something actually good, go see Superman or Fantastic Four. If you're looking for something decent with dinosaurs, go see Jurassic World: Rebirth. But if you're just looking to see a bunch of soldiers kill dinosaurs and get killed by dinosaurs and aren't really looking for anything compelling in regards to plot or characterization, Primitive War has that in spades.
 
So the Greyhound station in Mobile, Alabama is like something out of a movie. Dirty, cracked tile everywhere, empty pay phone kiosks, broken plugs, absolutely horrifying bathroom, and I've been waiting here since 1130am because that's the only time I could get a ride to Mobile and my bus doesn't leave until midnight!

Apparently the Greyhound station in Pensacola was so much worse that the city and county basically chased Greyhound out. Which immediately reduced crime statistics. People were apparently getting off of buses in Pensacola and going directly to carjacking to get a ride onward!

Four hours left. Kinda wish I'd had the coin to just rent a car and drive up there.

Been on the bus for awhile now. Didn't post because I was as asleep. That bus station was fucking exhausting.
The bus is almost as loud inside as a plane is, which is something most movies and television floss over

Here til almost 11am for the transfer. Shit, that's practically no time at all compared to the 12+ hours I waited at Mobile.

I hear ya. I should be away from Savannah and on my way to my destination before sundown.

Hanging out in the middle of the poor side of Mobile til midnight was… something.
Ever see people who look fully capable and willing to do desperate, wild violence just kinda… hang out? The whole time it felt like they were a dropped spoon away from murder and mayhem while talking like they were just vibing.

They were not vibing.

I'm pretty sure that multiple cars pulling up with passengers for the late buses prevented a murder

So I'm in South Carolina now and things are a little better.
Still got a long hard road back to anything like the life I had before.
It's made more difficult because the people I'm staying with live… in a more remote area and don't have reliable transportation. I'm not physically able to walk the distance to where things are, so I've decided to save up for one of those electric bike/scooter things to allow me to get to town without giving myself a cardiac incident.

Also, I'm kinda claustrophobic now? Being inside for too long makes me feel jumpy, like the walls are closing in on me.
Still, being able to sleep in privacy is just awesome. My friend here says homelessness can create a kind of PTSD and maybe that's what caused it? <shrug> Still better than eating garbage.
