So, shitty thing happened. My brother picked me up, so I can spend New Year's with him and his family, but on the way there his car got totaled and had to be towed away (we are fine, don't worry).

Now we are stranded at a rest stop near Dortmund, waiting for his insurance to get off its ass and do something, as he has the right to a rental replacement.

Fuck. Me.

Update: Help is on its way. And sometimes it pays off to have internet friends.

Contacted a Discord friend, who, in turn, contacted another friend that lives nearby, and is coming to pick us up in roughly 40 minutes, maybe an hour. He's taking us to Iserlohn, where my brother can pick up his rental car.

So, now we're waiting for him.

hahh, been doing a bit o' ruminating, about the awful parts of the warframe community. one of the closet skeletons was drudged up by dear old Shironature (youtuber) a couple weeks ago.

yep, either you know where i'm going, or you don't. it's the damned NovaUmbral situation.

for whatever context still remains after the purges and scattered ashes, NovaUmbral was a warframe youtuber that billed himself as one of those authoritative historian types. He was there, he saw it all, kind of deal.

for the most part, things were amicable for years. the warframe community, at the best of times, is... opinionated. at its worst...

well, it was two videos back-to-back by NovaUmbral that begot the end.

One, titled so brilliantly: Why Qorvex Is The Worst Warframe

this set the whole flipping community on fire. again, the nuance of the times highlights why such an inflammatory title stirred a crock pot full of the worst the warframe community had to offer. basically, this absolutely derisive, ragebait title came right off the heels of the Triburos, bluprint, and MrWarframeGuy videos which framed Qorvex as underappreciated.

next, NovaUmbral happens to be a part of the endurance crowd of warframe. this means he plays level 9999 content and loves it. now, i have words about the level of gameplay required to game at that level, but they are best shared for impolite company. surely not you guys.

so, two crowds formed around Qorvex. one, was just discovering the hidden tech that Qorvex's 1 combo'd off his 4, courtesy of Triburos. This immediately reframed Qorvex into a nascent hidden-gem frame.

then, NovaUmbral comes off the top rope with the steel chair absolutely convinced Qorvex is the worst warframe.

oof.

now we have a flame war on our hands. and the battles fought in NovaUmbral's comments i still remember fondly. it can be summed up quite succinctly and off-memory as 'I can't believe my goat had an ass take '

which, side tangent, is the comment i was going back to laugh at. NovaUmbral delisted all of his warframe videos. so, i can no longer credit or link it. (comment or the video)

just ass all around. then, then... the next warframe video released. Koumei.

i think i've painted enough of a picture for you to imagine how that hornet's nest went over with the community.

now, in and of itself, i made my shit-post comments, and went on with my life. the warframe community at large? they bullied his ass so hard he gave up his entire brand identity as a frametuber.

the warframe community has its absolute lows.

but this is all history, so why bother even bringing it up again?

well, like i said, Shironature decided it would be wonderful to dredge that muck up a couple weeks ago and bring a good dose of memberberries for everyone to enjoy.

what happened to NovaUmbral was awful. i know. getting that pissy about an opinion, especially to the point it flamed him out of the community? just stupidity.

but then there's the other half of the problem: NovaUmbral and Shironature.

remember that bit about endurance gameplay?

the entire genesis of the end was essentially the takes that Qorvex is bad because he sucks at level 9999 content, and Koumei is good because she rips 9999 content.

see, when you mix the authoritative take, inflammatory title, and brand history, gameplay extremism; and push it off as 'this is the take?'

why act surprised when you stick your wangdoodle in the beehive?

a warframe veteran, especially one that was there to see QuiteShy (i believe QuiteShallow now), that vauban main guy (literally been so long i forgor his name), and others dip out for the exact same reasons... a warframe 'veteran' like NovaUmbral should know that titling ragebait like he did would only be a bad move.

i legitimately think if he went with a title even like "I think Qorvex is disappointing' he would have like 25% less hate.

but no, he went balls in, held firm in the comments, doubled down with a second video, and ran ball to the end defending that take.

i have my sympathies, of course. but this is the exact kind of situation where both sides need a minute in the cold showers.

and neither did.

Update 2: Safely made it to my brother's place thanks to the aforementioned friend's friend. Am now eating hot dogs with him and his wife, while his twins are finally asleep.

Ordeal finally over. Only niggle I have is that I forgot my laptop's power cord at home, but there is an electronics store nearby, so it's a minor issue I can potentially correct tomorrow.

Edit: Scratch the last bit. His wife had a disused laptop she lent me the cable of.
