In the search filter we are able to sort by "Last updated:", can we also get a "Published within [timeframe]:" filter?

It would make discovering new threads/stories, that are quickly gaining popularity, much easier.

To be more specific, something to perhaps pair with "sort by watchers/views". For a potential example in how it could work: In the filter I specify I only want to see stories that have been published in the last 6 months, then I additionally sort by "watchers" to get the most popular stories that are "new".

You can already do that, go to Sort By and select First Message.

Indeed, though I can't specify a timeframe when a thread was posted and, much more importantly, I can't additionally sort by watchers/views as that is in the same category as "First Messages".

Why would you want to sort by watches or views when sorting by most recently created threads? Barring stories created by someone who already has a lot of followers that wouldn't really change the order.

If you want to find stories created during a certain period of time where the most recent point isn't now you want the Newer than and Older than filters in the advanced search.

Advanced search does not let you sort by "watchers" my dude. What I want is like you said the "Newer than" filter added so one can create a sort off pseudo "Trending" page, sort of like on other sites, where new stories of rising popularity are shown.

Edit:

Though you bring in a good idea with advanced search, the easiest way get the desired result would be through the ability to search by views/watchers there.

Damn, that would have been a better and more easy to understand request for the Suggestions thread.

....Admins/Mods if you see this, just pretend that that this was the suggestion.
