it does make sense, after all, specially with her current mindset where she has no drive to win. she tried her best, but she didn't have ambition. the fear of loss and the desperation to win were lacking.
combined with that, she has a literal lifetime of wartime activity, unless you deliberatly put a weapon pointed at her face she won't consider it a threat (conversely, a defamation campaign would probably get to her because it would hurt her family and that... well, I pity if someone try to smear her family name and meet her on a run. And everyone's near her.

She may get affected by intimidation if she gets the drive to win in the future, but it will most likely be very resilient compared to other musumes because anything thats not a life threat or a threat to her family doesn't compute as threat as much as a threat to her dreams if she manages to dream about winning.

Yes, I would say it will be good for EVERYONE on the track if Shirogane never truly 'locks in.'

Also, this story might be my favorite Youjo Senki reincarnation story so far, looking forward to more. You've done a wonderful job keeping some of the vibes in a new genre without repeating the same cliches many other stories fall into.

It's pretty cool that Tanya will basically never get nervous because of who her opponents are, because what are they when compared to enemy soldiers trying to literally kill her? Pressure from an opponent racer is so low on the fear scale that it doesn't even register.

Also, Air Groove's coasting speed being close to Tanya's max speed really illustrates the current difference between them. Air Groove doesn't seem to be tired much either, so as expected Tanya is currently outclassed in every single stat.

Tanya not having the desperation for victory is expected, since this life is basically her retirement. She's experienced the fear, the desperation, and has no desire to get close to those feelings again. Racing is just a career for her, and she'll likely be looking into alternate incomes during her career to prepare for the eventuality of not being able to race. I'm curious how others will react to one of their peers researching the stock market or whatever she goes with.

I'm also looking forward to Tanya's brain crashing at finding out about the idol stuff lol.

Also, her being a "mature adult" might (probably will) have positive impacts on other students. Half of a trainer's job in the game is being your uma's therapist, but it would be cool for Tanya to sort of fill that role.

Oh, Shirogane is very much capable of going 'In the Zone', probably with more ease than most umamusume. She just doesn't want to for the most part, since it takes her into combat mode and dredges up some bad memories she'd really not dwell on too much. But even then, she's actually got enough skill that she could feasibly win a race without really locking in, especially if its a lower grade, but as is, she'd need to go into the Zone to win a G1 or against some stronger opponents. It would require some instability for her to try it though.

Rudolf basically pulled a Dominator later on in the conversation and Shirogane just shrugged it off, which surprised Rudolf, since Shirogane was trying hard not to laugh during their interactions, which Rudolf interpreted as nervousness, and then stared right back into the Emperor Glare without any fear.

Not really, Shirogane eats very fast but doesn't eat all that much. She does remind Rudolf of Oguri Cap to some degree though, with similar coloring, vaguely similar temperament, and also comparable eating speed, even if Shirogane isn't a glutton.

You've done a wonderful job keeping some of the vibes in a new genre without repeating the same cliches many other stories fall into.

Thanks! I think a fair number of other Tanya stories kind of overlook the fact that Tanya/Salaryman isn't necessarily going to go full Devil of the Rhine if they aren't in a bad situation. Could Shirogane join a PMC and go fight terrorists? Sure, theoretically, but that isn't usually going to be her first choice of action. Being in a family whose finances are stretched thin is not as uncertain as being in an orphanage apparently dedicated to the entity that was tormenting her, after all.

It's worth noting that Air Groove was actually more fatigued than Shirogane after the run, since she was wearing heavier horseshoes, but yeah, Shirogane's speed is nothing to write home about in regards to race horses at the moment, and if we want to go with game terms her Turf and Dirt Ratings would probably be B (while she has an S on pavement and A on offroad).

I don't know if Shirogane would be very helpful on the emotional side for most umas. The one I can see her being the best mentor for is Eishin Flash, since Shirogane would not be as flabbergasted by the meticulous schedule and able to pick it apart in a way that would be helpful for Flash.

Also kinda funny thought, Eishin Flash would probably be one of Salaryman's favorite umamusume given her personality.

Super Freak is going to try goo babies with Shirogane and is not going to end well, i wonder if the supernatural charisma of Haru could also affect Shirogane's fatigue and mood after the race as the rest of the umas.

I wonder if her Unique could be to "Remove all debuffs at late-race and increase velocity based on amount removed." She's anti-debuffer and is a hard counter to debuff meta. Otherwise she doesn't stand out. Then, you get another version with a unique that more aligns to her later career as a successful racer.

I thought it would be funny if Mayano dad comes around to visit his daughter and Shiro gets along disturbingly well with him as a military man and air jock such that Mayano feels her poaition as daughter is threatened. Or even suspect Shiro has a crush on the man. The shenanigans from the impulsive Uma will be hilarious.

In game terms, I imagine she has a Gold upgrade to Slipstream that debuffs the racer right in front of her along with the decrease in wind resistance.

I like the friend angle more and imagine that Haru decides to lock in and gets S on turf by racing along Shirogane, builds her stamina to long races so she can keep up and talk with her and ends up winning the Arima Kinen by inertia lol
