Yep very nice change of pace.

Thanks! Letter_A and I had a lot of fun there.

Yeah its so tiresome how many fics think good Dumbledore HAS TO be a mouth breathing moron.

Indeed. I'm glad we did better here.

I'm very happy with how Dumbledore is being portrayed here. In the original pitch, it was unknown how... Fanon Duumbly would be.

I mean, originally, we wanted to know what you wanted, and a lot of what you wanted was relatively unspoken at any point in time. You were pretty hands off tbh, so we had to do our best to fill in the blanks, and Alphabet was adamant that it was boring seeing Dumbledore be in some way a mess.

I agreed, and we got talking, and discovered that Dumbledore was just autistic, not stupid. And that if given the chance, and a better option, he would have rectified the issue immediately.

Which, while likely not canon, is our new headcanon. Expect more fics like this if people ask us for Dumbledore in a Harry Potter in the future. Unless they specifically ask for something different.

I like dumbledore here. No bashing, no cartoonish evil, just an old man who dropped the ball and is trying to make up for it.
My favorite take was one, can't remenber the fic name but it was comedy, where Dumbledore had legitimaly gone senile but since he had always acted weird the other adults didn't realize it. ;p

I've done one where he was legitimately high the entire time, and didn't know any better. Because the special pipe weed he got given by a former student was too strong.

My old fridge blew a compressor and half-cooked and refroze about 300canadian dollars of food repeatedly, making it unsafe to eat. Offering comms for half-off via Ko-fi until that gets settled. I don't get paid until the 29th. Anyone up for commissioning me so I can afford to restock my new fridge so I can eat for the next ten days? Gonna post this on a couple of my threads and hope someone sees it.

Wooo! Thanks to a few commissioners, I can eat this month! People are awesome. Gonna update the threads with this message now so people know not to worry anymore.

Who would like me to write a little Fantastic Beasts side story for this, to show John's ancestry, and also show why Dumbledore is the way he is here?

John was pretty sure that Magic was just 'whatever' at this point. Seriously, it was crazy!

He had pulled out his little radio, and started fiddling with it to get it on the local rock station, when the bush decided to take it! And then it grew an antenna to find the radio signal the tiny radio was having problems with. Which was really cool, and he was kind of staring in awe when the plant grew a series of mouths to sing Queen to them!

"We will we will Rock You!" the bush sung, the grass dancing and the vines on the back of the house clapping as the vegetables began to cheer.

Even the Great Oak was happily waving at them, and providing them fruit for snacks. Super cool, right?

"You got mud on your face, a big disgrace, somebody better put you back into your place," they sang along, happily as the garden played with them and made them feel right at home…

Until some old man yelled over the side of the fence.

"Are you kids bloody insane?" he asked. "If I didn't pop up a buncha wards and obliviate the police, you would have been swarming in muggles trying to experiment on you now. Stop doing that and go buy some proper wards first at least, goddamn kids."

After that, the mood was killed, and they pouted, wandering back inside.

"Jim! We've got a letter!" Stacy called out from across the house.

Hm. Normally she wouldn't call out like that if it was any regular mail, addressed to him or not. Jim decided it was best for him to go check it out.

Heading downstairs, he noticed an owl of all things perched on the table. A short moment later, it took off, flying out the window he assumed it came from.

"We've got a letter from the Ministry of Magic, it seems," Stacy said, waving an envelope in her hands. "Most likely regarding the boys."

"Oh, right. Yeah, you mentioned that the magic folk want to keep magic a secret," Jim realised. "Well, let's get that thing open then."

The letter read… mostly like letters from the mundane government. It essentially asked them to ensure the kids could either control, hide or through any means avoid the possibility of the greater public witnessing any acts of magic. As much as the kids were enamoured with their… new forms, Jim supposed it was reasonable for them to be concerned about such things. But…

"…Well. The magic folk basically told us to get the kids under control before they step in," Jim said. "And I don't know about you, but I'm not particularly keen on any government having anything to do with our kids. Not Thatcher, not whoever's in the Magic Parliament– or whatever they've got going on there."

"I guess we can ask if Albus can–" Stacy began to reply, before getting interrupted by another owl pecking at the window. "Well that's solved that problem."

Quickly opening the window back up, the owl flew in, perching atop the table. Untying the letter, they saw that it was indeed from Albus Dumbledore, addressed to the both of them.

This letter was a tad… well, Albus Dumbledore always seemed to Jim as a man that had his head a bit in the clouds. Or at least, while he did seem like a fine man, he was a tad awkward about anything that wasn't magic. As was typical, he'd noticed, with magic folk like that.

Anyway, where was he…? Right, the letter was a bit meandering, but it had essentially told them that he'd noticed Harry and John's "unique skills", and to not worry about Ministry disapproval, as he'd sent for a mentor to help guide them before their education in Hogwarts. A "Kitsune" of some renown he'd met along his journeys, whatever or whoever that was. As far as he knew, a "Kitsune" was some subgroup of folks his colleagues tended to be a part of.

Right as he set down the letter, he heard a knock on the door. He and his wife looked at each other. Hmm. They nodded, and Stacy went to go see who had arrived, Jim following not too far behind.

Opening the door, the two were greeted by… actually, Jim might have seen this woman before?? Wait… oh yeah, that one child psychologist friend one of his colleagues had. He went to one of those group meetups and might have talked to her a few times. Respectable woman, couldn't remember her name though. Jim was always bad at names.

"Hello Mister Baker, you might possibly remember me," she mentioned with a small smile. "I am Doctor Futaba Fujiyoshi, PhD in Psychology, Registered Mind Healer for the Imperial Japanese Onmyoji Corps, and Kitsune. I was told by my old friend Dumbledore that you needed someone experienced to help teach two young kits how to hide away their tails and ears so they don't wind up the subject of no-maj scrutiny."

"Ah, good to meet you then, Dr. Fujiyoshi!" Jim replied amicably as they both stepped back. "Come on in, then!"

As they closed the door behind her, she released a pair of tall fluffy fox ears and nine fluffy tails from behind her, removing her shoes as she followed them, her nose sniffing at the air while she walked. "I can sense that they are nearby. Might I have a look at who I will be working with, so that I might assess how to best teach them what they need to know?"

Jim blinked. "Right, they should be out playing in the backyard, last I checked," he told her.

"Then I will go see what they know, and what may be required to teach them," Futaba nodded gracefully as she made her way to the back patio door.

Once she slid it open, she stopped and smiled, a light giggling sound coming from her throat that got the boys' attention immediately. "Or they're so adorable!" she grinned. "Look at them, they're just kits!"

She giggled a bit more and their ears perked up, their tails wagging and John even responded with giggling of his own, which was an adorable sight indeed.

"I'll do more than teach your boys, Jim," she smiled. "I'll protect them with the power given to me by my Clan Patriarch if you let me. All kits deserve to live long and learn the ways of the Kitsune if they desire, after all… But Dumbledore wouldn't have asked me if he didn't think your family needed a guardian, and I can see why in hindsight."

Hmm. The kids did seem to get along with her just fine, and she was apparently a licensed psychologist and magical 'mind healer'. She seemed to be of an alright sort to Jim. Also, Dumbledore did mention in one of his letters that Harry was a rather significant figure in the Wizarding World, mostly due to the fact that he was the lone survivor of an evil wizard's magical attack that somehow destroyed said wizard. As such, the poor boy had both fans ignoring how he'd lost both of his parents that night, and enemies that were followers of that particular wizard.

"Well, your services would be gratefully appreciated, then," Jim replied, extending a hand. "How about we iron out the rest of the details where we won't bore the children?"

"Very well," Doctor Fujiyoshi accepted the handshake. "I will follow your lead, Mister and Missus Baker."

Jim still didn't have much to say about magic. But the kids would be alright, he thought to himself.

Foxxo has plans for this going forwards, and all of those plans are heavily contingent upon Alphabet getting enough money donated to him to match what Summercat gave me in terms of word count last month when shit got really bad for me for a bit there, and I almost had to go hungry for about ten days.

So, as a result of getting a ton of comms dropped on me, I am far ahead of what Al here is capable of, so our friend here TheLetter_A needs cash to catch up with what I have left.

If we don't get him some cash soon, he'll run out of words for it, and then I'll have to put it on hold for him. Which would majorly suck balls, and not in a good way.

We got enough to do a few more chapters at best, so anything we can send his way for it would help.

TheLetter_A: Indeed. Feed me, Seymour! I'll appreciate every donation you make to the cause. Just join the discord and notify us over there about your intent, and we'll mark it down and soldier on. o7
