QQ Guide for Posting by The Stray Knight

Hello!

If you're in this thread because, like me, you wanted to make a post on QQ but needed a little help figuring out what goes where, whether that's because English isn't your first language, or because the whole process feels a little confusing or intimidating, then hopefully this guide can help!
I couldn't find a Guide for Posting either, and I had some free time, so I figured I'd make one. Here we go!

NOW!

First!

What you need is an Idea and at least one Chapter!

Got one? Great!

Now there are THREE important things you need to decide:

1. Is your idea [SFW] or [NSFW]? (Let's be honest, you're on QQ. You lewd… something.)

2. Do you want it to be a [QUEST] or a [STORY]? (There's also Play-by-Post, but that's its own roleplaying thing, so we'll leave that aside for now.)

3. If it's a [STORY], do you want to post it in its [OWN THREAD], or would you rather post it in your [OMAKE - WHAT IF - SPIN OFF THREAD]?

Take your time to think about it, and don't worry too much. If you picked the wrong option, you can change it anytime!

Second!

Time to make your post!

In all the FORUMS on QQ, you'll find a 'Post Thread' button in the top right corner.

qq_post_thread_botton_by_thestrayknightda_dmqpq8g-fullview.jpg

But, as you will see, the posting page can be a little different depending on which forum you're posting in.

Once again, since this is QQ, I'll mainly be using the NSFW Creative Writing section as the principal example.

So, when you click the 'Post Thread' button, you'll be taken to this page!

qq_nsfw_posting_by_thestrayknightda_dmqpqmr-fullview.jpg

Here is what you should put on each Number!

1. Prefixes: Now, in NSFW Creative Writing, there is only one prefix, and that's the [NSFW] one. SFW Creative Writing and Off-Topic General don't have any, Off-Topic NSFW General also only has [NSFW]. While Quest and Play-by-Post, both SFW and NSFW, have multiple for you to choose from.

(Though most people leave it empty in the case of SFW, or pick the broad [NSFW] one for NSFW.)

Post Thread Examples: SWF Creative Writing - NSFW General Forum - SFW Quest - NSFW Quest

qq_nsfw_quest_posting_by_thestrayknightda_dmqprpo-fullview.jpg

2. Thread title: This one is easy! Just put the title of your story here. And yes, you can edit it later!

3. Discussion: This is where your first chapter goes! This will be the first post in your thread. When you start editing it, you'll notice that it's a little different from the other chapters you'll post later.

4. Threadmark Index: This is the preview that appears at the top of your Story Thread. It will be one of the first things your future readers see, so take your time with it!

You can use it for a short preview, an explanation of how your story differs from the original, a poetic phrase, or pretty much anything else you think fits. You decide!

This is Mine!

5. Status: This is where you set the current status of your story. You really only need to change this when you finish the story, but you can also use it to let readers know if you've dropped the story or put it on hiatus for personal reasons.

Though a comment with a trademark in the Thread will reach more people so it's better to do both!

qq_status_by_thestrayknightda_dmqpsxh-fullview.jpg

6. Threadmark label: Another easy one! Here, you give your Threadmark a name. You can use something simple like Chapter nº, or give each chapter its own personal title.

This name will appear in your Threadmarks List and at the top of the chapter.

I also recommend putting the chapter title inside the chapter itself, just to make things easier to see.

7. Trademark Category: This determines which list your post will appear in. Since your first post will normally be the first chapter, it's best to leave this as Threadmarks.

The other categories are Index, Appendix, and Extras.

I recommend using each of them for the following but you are free to do as you want!

Index — Things not directly related to the story: Things like delay announcements, hiatus notices, or warning about off-topic conversations that have gotten out of control.
Appendix — Things related to the story: Character information, additional story information, worldbuilding notes, and similar things.
Extras: Your Omakes, Non-Canon Omakes, or Omakes written by your readers!

8. Tags: Here, you choose the Tags that will appear in your story. These apply to the whole story, not just the current chapter. You can also add or remove tags later when editing!

9. More Options: This is where you choose which alerts you want to receive for your story.

I recommend only selecting "Watch this thread…". Otherwise, if you have multiple popular stories, you might end up with your email inbox completely flooded with notifications!

10. Poll: The poll is actually easier than it looks!

qq_poll_by_thestrayknightda_dmqpsu4-fullview.jpg

Question: What do you want your readers to vote on?

Possible responses: Every time you fill in the last option, a new empty option will automatically appear.

Maximum selectable responses: This lets you decide how many choices each reader can select. You can allow one choice, unlimited choices, or set a specific maximum number.

Options: Most of these are pretty self explanatory, but there are a few things worth keeping in mind:

Allow voters to change their votes.

Display votes publicly: Other readers will be able to see who voted for what. (This can potentially affect the results.)

Allow the results to be viewed without voting: Readers can see the current results without having to vote themselves. (This can also affect the results.)

Close this poll after: Be careful with this one! If you make the poll too short, some of your readers might not have time to vote. On the other hand, making it too long could delay your next chapter if you're waiting for the results.

Thread Edition Guide New
QQ Guide for Editing by The Stray Knight

Okay! Now that you've posted your first chapter, let's take a look at some of the important tools you can use to edit and manage your thread.

NOTE: Some of these things can be accessed in multiple ways, but for now, I'll only show you one way to do each of them!

NOW!

Let's use my Omake Thread as an example.

First, let's look at the difference between replying to a thread as the Thread Owner and replying as a normal viewer.

qq_thread_owner_post_by_thestrayknightda_dmqt8cf-fullview.jpg

As you can see, when you're the Thread Owner, you get two additional options when making a post.

The first is the Threadmark Label, where you give the title to the Threadmark.

The second lets you choose where you want the Threadmark to appear. Remember, you can put it in Threadmarks, Index, Appendix, or Extras.

REMEMBER: You will have to manually erase the Threadmark in the second option if you want to just answer some comments so you don't create a Threadmark!

Threadmark Other Users Comments

Earlier, we talked about how people can sometimes send you their own Omakes. You can simply leave them unmarked if you want, but it's always nice to encourage people to participate in your story's community.

Luckily, adding a Threadmark to another user's comment is really simple!

If you look at ArsMagna1337, you'll notice that the Add Threadmark option is missing from the bottom of their comment.

As long as you are the Thread Owner, you should have the option to add one.

qq_arsmagna1337_by_thestrayknightda_dmqt92t-fullview.jpg

Once you press it, it's really simple! Just give the Threadmark a title and select which category you want to add it to.

qq_add_threadmark_pressed_by_thestrayknightda_dmqt9ag-pre.jpg

Organize your Threadmarks!

If you receive multiple chapter-length Omakes from different people, you may also want to organize them in a sensible order so that future readers can have an easier time going through them.

(I recommend doing this once a week or once a month, depending on how many Omakes you receive. I wouldn't recommend reorganizing them immediately though, as doing so could make some users miss newer Omakes.)

But, as always, that's just my advice!

Now how to do it!

Just press the icon with the four arrows pointing in the four cardinal directions. You'll find it on the Threadmarks list at the top of your thread.

qq_organize_threadmarks_by_thestrayknightda_dmqt9xq-fullview.jpg

Then simply drag the Threadmarks into the order you want with your mouse and press Save!

qq_organize_threadmarks_pressed_by_thestrayknightda_dmqt9kc-pre.jpg

Edit Title Preview Status and Icon
Want to change your Thread Title, Chapter Preview, Story Status, or Icon?

Go to the top of your story and look to the right of your icon. You should see the three-dot "..." icon.

Click it, then select "Edit."

qq_edite_title_icon_and_more_by_thestrayknightda_dmqtach-fullview.jpg

Then modify what you want and Save!

qq_edite_title_icon_and_more_pressed_by_thestrayknightda_dmqtad1-fullview.jpg

And remember how I mentioned that there are multiple ways to access some of these tools?

Well, the three-dot menu also gives you options to just edit your Icon and sort your Threadmarks from there!

First Post Differences with other Post
Remember when I told you that your first post was a little different from the rest?

Well, here's another important difference:

The tags for your Thread can be modified by editing the first post.

You cannot change the Thread's tags by editing one of the later posts.

So, if you ever need to add, remove, or change a tag, make sure you edit the first post!

Edit Fic Title AND Prefix
You edited the Title of your fic and want to change it because you either pasted it wrongly (you put the chapter title on it) or you want to change it but you haven't found how to do it yet? Well it is quite easy.
See that edit button on the first chapter? Click it. At the the top, there should be something known as a prefix. Then below that is what you are looking for. The Title. Type the Title you want it to be and now press save, the one with the floppy disc below the chapter. Congratulations. You have changed the Title of your fic.
Have a nice day~
