Question about chapter splitting conventions

Hi,

I'd like your advice on what's considered proper practice here.

I've started posting a roleplay transcript, and so far I've published one threadmark per arc (an arc being roughly one game session). I'm realising it doesn't work well: the arcs are too long to read comfortably in one sitting (11–13k words each), and the gap between updates is too long.

I'd like to switch to one threadmark per chapter, in more digestible pieces. I see three options:

1. Keep posting by arc. It stays consistent and nothing already posted changes, even if it's too long.
2. Leave what's already posted as it is, and post by chapter from now on. Nothing changes for early readers, but the split is inconsistent.
3. Re-cut what's already posted into chapters. Everything ends up consistent and in the clean version, but it changes content that some people have already read.

My instinct is option 3, with an author's note explaining the change so watchers understand what happened. But I don't know whether that's acceptable here, or whether it's frowned upon. What would you do?

From a rules perspective, you can do any of those options (and more besides).

As far as what the general userbase will like... well, there are some who like big beefy chapters, even in excess of what you have. And others that crave some as small as 300 words a pop. Both populations do exist on the site. The majority are somewhere in the middle.

The arcs at the start of the campaign were relatively short, around 10k words, but they grew, and some of the later ones are over 50k. Even after cutting them into chapters, each chapter would still be over 3k words, so I think I'll go with option 3.
