Re: Bella Swan's Brother

Chapter 31 New
"Bella told me yesterday that you said you were sick or something and wanted to go to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow so I decided to stay back so I could send you there early, less checkups usually this early in the morning since they're usually done in the afternoon and I could take a bit of time. So, are you good? What's wrong son?" Charlie asked as he took the final step, now standing right next to Alex before his eyes narrowed slightly in confusion as he looked up at Alex.

"Did you grow taller?" He asked, the question spilling out of his mind unconsciously as he looked at his own son.

Alex looked down at himself and then back at him before shrugging his shoulders.

"I don't know maybe… anyways yeah I'm not feelin the best, I've been having these random headaches that feel like my head is going to explode and they don't stop for minutes. I just had one this morning and had to stay in bed for ten minutes before it stopped. Couldn't even do anything." Alex spoke as he released a long exhausted sigh, he wasn't particularly lying that he needed help or that he felt sick, he was simply not telling the entire truth, afterall how could he ever involve Charlie into this when he was just a human, it would put his life at risk and he wouldn't even be able to offer any meaningful help to his current situation.

Charlie's eyes instantly clouded with worry at Alex's words before he gave a nod of his head, he took the words seriously and didn't try to make it sound less than what Alex was saying, he believed his own son and he especially believed that exhausted sigh.

"Alright, let's get you goin to the hospital then." Charlie said as he turned and walked to grab his jacket as well as his boots, he was still fully wearing a police uniform as he was planning to head to the police department after having dealt with the health situation.

"Alright." Alex replied with a nod before he slowly and carefully walked to get his shoes before he walked out together with Charlie.

The two of them got into the police car, Alex taking the front passenger seat whilst Charlie drove them out of the front of the house and into the road.

The drive from where they lived and to the hospital in Forks wasn't long, in around half an hour they were already parked in the hospital parking lot and Alex was carefully getting out of the car.

When he was with the Cullens he didn't have to worry as much as they all now knew his secret however when he was with someone like Charlie, it felt like his mind was going to burn up from the exhaustion of managing every single small movement that his body did and even then… it wasn't perfect.

*Slam*

The car door slammed harshly, the window rattling for a moment.

"Sorry, didn't mean to slam it, just used to Bella's truck is all." Alex said apologetically in the very next instant, finding a reasonable lie to use for the situation.

"Well, It's okay. Just be more careful next time, yeah? This thing is like one of the best that we got at the station. Still at least it's good that you haven't lost your strength to this sickness." Charlie said with a chuckle as he shook his head and made a motion with his hand, clearly telling him that it was okay and he didn't have to worry about it.

"So you got any doctor that could tell me what this was about? Like the headaches and stuff? One of my friends recommended Carlisle Cullen, their dad." Alex spoke softly as Charlie locked the car and the two started walking towards the front of the hospital together.

"Carlisle Cullen? Ah, he is good." Charlie said and then a moment of silence passed between the two of them, for a moment Alex felt like he had spoken something that he should not have only for Charlie to keep talking once more and completely dispel those thoughts.

"He's the best doctor we have, a good man. Takes care of his kids and wife well and never causes trouble." Charlie finished his words and then coughed slightly into his hand as the two walked.

'Right… he's just awkward at talking, almost didn't remember that. He usually seems a lot more free with me though, maybe he's just more awkward with Bella since he doesn't really know how to deal with a teenage daughter?' Alex thought to himself as he followed his new father into the hospital.

Walking through a long hall they finally arrived at a reception desk and as soon as they did, the receptionist, an old woman with graying hair, looked up and noticed it was Charlie Swan with his kid, Charlie was well known in a small town like Forks.

"Ah, Police Chief Carlisle told me that you could be swinging by today." The old lady spoke warmly as she looked at the two of them.

"He did?" Charlie asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, said something about his daughter being friends with yours and she was concerned about your kid and told him to come to the hospital for a checkup. Carlisle said to just bring you guys to his office when you arrived for the checkup." The old lady replied as she nodded her head and then made a pointing finger towards a door directly down the hall and to the left.

"Room 106" The woman spoke before she went back to dealing with her documents that she had been working on before the two of them had come.

Charlie turned towards Alex and an almost teasing smile appeared on his face though it was barely there, however Alex could clearly see it in the man's eyes as he looked at him.

"Don't. She's just a friend Dad, not you too. Bella was annoying enough."

"I didn't say anything Alex."

"Sure… sure you didn't."

Chapter 32 New
Charlie and Alex silently headed towards the office after the small teasing interaction, Charlie had a regular expression, he wasn't expecting it to be anything serious, at most maybe some pain medication for the headaches until they passed.

Opening the door of the office, the two headed inside and there he was, Carlisle Cullen, the same man that Alex had met yesterday in the man's own home. The leader of the Cullen coven as well as one of the oldest vampires currently alive on the planet as far as Alex was aware of.

"Ah, Police Chief, Alex, welcome and good morning." Carlisle spoke with that very same tone that Alex had heard yesterday, the man's voice was soft and deep, it was in a way both soothing as well as commanding at the very same time.

"Ah yes, doctor Cullen, thanks for this." Charlie replied, not knowing exactly how to thank the man for having set up their appointment beforehand so that they wouldn't have to deal with the wait at all.

"Nothing, It's just what I should do. There's not many people coming at this time of the day anyway so I was free. Now then Alex, if you may come and sit here, I'll start the checkup, if you could first tell me your symptoms." Carlisle spoke softly as he motioned towards a nearby chair in the white office for Alex to sit in.

Nodding his head, Alex didn't wait to be told twice before he walked and sat down at the chair and turned his attention towards Carlisle.

"Well, the uh symptoms have gotten worse, this morning was especially bad. My ears felt like they were echoing every sound very loudly and then there was this massive headache and I couldn't even move from the pain for a while. It's been happening more and more frequently and then sometimes I can't even really control my limbs from it and it's just very painful." Alex spoke as he tried his best to make the sickness sound as bad as he could without revealing anything and trying to make it believable, thankfully he wasn't particularly lying about most of the symptoms, thus making it far easier for the next part of their operation to continue.

Carlisle's eyes narrowed as his brows furrowed further and he walked closer and then started using some random tools that Alex had no idea what they were to inspect him.

"I'm afraid that I'll have to keep you here for a few hours so that I can do some more detailed checkups. From what you're telling me, this is… quite serious. Might need to do a scan of your body to check for any tumors or anything like that as well as an analysis of your blood." Carlisle spoke, his voice was much graver than it had been before and finally the normal expression on Charlie's face started to change as worry started to cloud his eyes.

"What do you mean by that doctor? Is it really bad? Maybe it's just migraines and some kind of flu." Charlie said hopefully however Carlisle merely turned towards him, looking at the man for a moment with what could only be called pity and then shook his head.

"I'm sorry, It… It could be that however the chances that it's something more serious are too high for me not to do the scans." Carlisle said as he released a soft sigh whilst talking, his voice still utterly dead serious.

"I see… well then you do everything you can, I'll take today off and stay here with Alex." Charlie spoke as he was already rummaging through his pants for his phone, already getting ready to call the police department and telling them that he had a medical emergency involving his son and that he wouldn't be able to come to work today.

Carlisle gave a nod of his head and then turned back towards Alex, looking at him for a moment before turning his gaze back towards Charlie.

"Chief, you can stay in the hallways, I'll just get all the scans done on Alex quickly and then he can come and wait there with you." Carlisle spoke, clearly trying to get Charlie out of the room for the next discussion that he want to have personally with Alex.

Charlies gaze lifted up from his phone where he had been dialing his friend in the police department and nodded once before turning towards Alex.

"Alright, I'll be right outside Alex. Trust Doctor Cullen, he's a very good doctor." Charlie spoke briefly before turning and heading out of Carlisle's small office and back into the hallways of the hospital, closing the door behind him.

Once the door fully closed, Carlisle's serious expression finally parted away as he turned to look at Alex.

"You said the symptoms got worse, was that just a lie for this or did they actually?" Carlisle asked as he walked and sat back down on his chair on the other side of the desk.

Alex turned his body around in his own chair so that he was now facing Carlisle who was behind the desk fully and gave a nod of his head almost instantly.

"It's bad. Like a lot worse than the other times. Today my hearing suddenly got much better and I felt like I could literally hear everything around me, from Charlie breathing downstairs to even his heartbeat and Bella's heartbeat who was sleeping in another room. It was overwhelming and my brain felt like it was going to explode from all of the sounds. I really couldn't move for like ten minutes or so." Alex spoke honestly as he released his own long exhausted sigh, placing his hands on his lap.

"It seems like whatever transformation your body is going through is still in the middle of occurring. Was there anything else?" Carlisle asked as he lifted an eyebrow and then took out a small notepad from a drawer on the bottom of his desk before taking a pen and starting to write down whatever Alex was telling him.
