Marcus Graham has been handed a raw deal. As a student of military history, he wants nothing more than to help the world learn from human conflict. But his increasingly hostile college is blocking his lectures and threatening to cancel him for speaking his mind. War is just too triggering for the young minds of this generation.

But there's another world out there. A world wracked by constant strife. A world of fantasy races locked in combat, and where the tides of war are always in full swing. It is a world on the brink of almost total annihilation, where the common people have almost given up hope.

But Marcus, with his extensive knowledge of battlefield strategy, might just be the man to save them all.

This is so funny because most complaints I see are the EXACT opposite XD

EDIT: I've tried. Writing looks good but cant shake of my initial impression. I will just try again after a while to buffer more chapters and give me a fresh view of it.

I looked at chapter one, and well he has not exactly impressed me with his intelligence.
He gave the libtard the initiative and completely forgotten or misused ethos and pathos parts of his speech.
He allowed his opponent to whip the crowd into a frenzy and he fell apart midway though his speech.
Poor situational awareness as well.
Also missing a few chapters.

Seems like the rats are a hands-off matriarchal society which does make sense due to their extreme scarcity and dimorphism (assuming this rat queen is an comparable example to the other rat queens)

The males serve, fight and die for the Queen like a eusocial colony and the favoured mate manages the day to day of the clan alongside providing her food supply. But the actual power rests with the Queen.

Oh this is perfect! I hope this head was the loathsome Steven guy from the beginning that Silas captured a few chapters ago. Yes Silas take that opportunity to lead them to their death now that their usefulness has expired. I'm rooting for Silas he is a great protagonist hopefully that earthling guy we followed so far, Marcus, will help our true protagonist Silas! Even if Marcus has displayed a bit of usefulness with his thoughts about chemical warfare in chap 34.

As soon as I saw that Steven was transferred as well I was dreading that you would try and "redeem" him, like so many others would do. But no, if that truly was Steven then you have proven yourself wiser than many who also start out with a clear antagonist with a political stance which divides your readership only to not allow Catharsis and Schadenfreude over punishing them.

Now I really hope that it was Steven head as I seem to have prophetic visions with how the Marcus guy sympathizes with Steven. How nice it would be if the true protagonist Silas could just harvest all the info from the squeamish Marcus mind and go forth to conquer. I hope Marcus can overcome his silly and needless worries and just do his damn job.

Interesting setup. Being the victim of a wrongthink purge and then being put in charge of ratmen. Being put in a position where you get dragged away because of a bad position especially one that works out yeah though leading ratmen isn't something I thought of.

I've always thought about this kind of setup where one mulls there position in the modern world in maudlin brain storming idleness about the what their life would be like in the past where they may have skills or values that are appreciated more or they seek opportunities they couldn't have in the present.

It's filling that niche where I thought of someone who was inspired by the past conquerors of old especially Alexander that they bring that baggage with them while also facing the realities of said fantasy and accepting the outcome.

Then the title given to the main character gives me Dune vibes of Muad'dib.

Ah chance to jump ship for Marcus. Reptile men are fine as well even if they are not nearly as likely to obey him. But I'm thinking that Marcus should really just subjugate a few Kobolds himself and break of on his own to show how it really work. They do not want to follow his advise? Fine so be it then they will have to be destroyed as well. But that is only if he can survive free and un-enslaved to the reptiles.

Rip Festicus, I hope this will have finally made Marcus a bit more ruthless. While Marcus was right in that the Kobolds are good auxiliaries he should not have trusted the rats to leave behind generations of grudges behind and known better with the rhetoric of the church that they would slaughter them. But he should at least have killed off that clear dissident before he had a chance to betray them.

Hopefully the new Clan Marrow representative will be more subservient to Marcus, though maybe they will take this chance to reduce Marcus freedoms in the name of protection.

But that Mari is also dragged over to this side was pretty well foreshadowed and one of the most likely reasons for the assassin teams wishes to keep Marcus alive. And the pale part of the pale matriarch made it likely in hindsight that it was Mari who may have a similar position to Marcus Shai-Alud

Truly Deekius, best boy, is right it is truly glorious for Markus to throw off the shackles of morality, of meekness and submissiveness and take his rightful place at the top.

I'm curious what trick Markus will unveil next, what clever warcrimes he will commit. I can scarcely wait!

By taking the reins of the fledgling empire he is trying to build he will be able to incorporate the quickly breeding kobolds into his legions, now that he is the head of faith, or rather has the new head of faith in his pocket. A warrior-tactician prophets words will be listened to if only he keeps up his demagoguery.
