[RWBY] RWBY Shorts

Sure we know they could just use non dust based tech, but developing that tech just to leave the planet when you could instead develop better Grimm killing weapons.

One of the few cases where space travel not appearing both makes sense but it can also appear reasonably easily.
After the victory over Salem when Grimm threat is basically reduced to 10% of what it was... And given that the scientists of Remnant are aware of various fuels based on different sources, be it oil, natural gas and hydrogen...

Oh boy, it will be fun.

In this case Auntie Obertha managed to get a small space rocket facility going based on the many things that space access gives you:

-Total planetary overwatch for weather, Grimm, etc
-Worldwide telecommunications not reliant on the CCT.
-To one day allow life to go to a world without Grimm. Or at least build space colonies.
-Give hope to people on Remnant
-Develop advanced technology not reliant on Dust
-To drop Rods from God on Salem constantly so that she's too distracted by being effectively nuked every hour or so to coordinate Grimm. Even if she is immortal, hard to get anything done if your castle is a massive crater being bombarded from orbit constantly.
-To prove to all those foolish fools OBERTHA is the greatest scientific genius on Remnant! BWAHAHAHA!

That said, it might be really fun to give Jaune a regular chicken or rooster instead, but the bird somehow got a whole bunch of kung-fu skills.
(yesterday I threw a kung-fu chicken at my D&D party, it was a regular chicken until it rolled an nat 20 on acrobatics, so I altered the stats so it knew kung-fu. It was real fun).
Beware of Chicken.
He's canon but was never seen.
Why? Just… why?

You had so much potential for characters, but you use the same set for everything, almost never explore how characters outside the main cast influence the characters or world, and seem to believe that you're limited to Monty's original set of characters for villains, so you have Raven and Ironwood both turn villain for no good reason. (Sure, Raven wasn't a good person before, but she completely flips her character to make her more evil, and it's just not well written)
Amazing, I got banned from my own thread. That's gotta be a record.
I know of an author who got banned from their own thread for "derailing" when the discussion was about the magic systems in the relevant original works and how they interact, I believe. They also got perma-banned for something apparently said by someone in their Discord server on SB and were banned from SV for no given reason at the same time.
The universe corrects this flaw. And suddenly remnant has a new(?) species on it.

Luckily not inherently hateful to humans.
I wouldn't blame it, considering how it was made!

The kinetic energy transfer issue makes it such that these weapons aren't as effective in a wide a scale as you'd think it to be especially against a foe like the Grimm. Yes against a conventional military you'd be able to destroy strategic objectives (carriers, ships, fortifications) but it's also incredibly expensive that just spending the money on missiles is WAAYYY better.

The KE also transfers down and into the earth which is a problem with using it against an enemy that's attacking you. You are causing mini 5.0-6.0 (this is probably way too high) earthquakes near the place you wanna defend while doing minimal losses to the enemy. it's a weapon that requires immense precision (extremely difficult) with an extremely high cost use (waste of money) and also doesn't work for the target you want to hit.

Edit: also we don't use satellites for weather reporting entirely, you can't get direct data from it like wind, humidity, temperature and etc. for that purpose we release like several hundred weather balloons at the same time to update our models and accurately predict the weather.

This means weather reporting on Remnant reliably is actually impossible since you have such a small dataset and only over specific regions.

Edit edit: also the above naturally can't tell you everything either, you need ground data and ocean data as well. Theoretically you can predict the weather almost entirely without satellites.

Addendum space access gives you half of what you need for power armored mobile Infantry that can follow on from the rods from God now if some one could invent working power armored mobile Infantry that interfaces with aura…

Theoretically you could make kinetic rods work but they'd need substantial advances in material sciences, chemistry, dust studies and a number of other fields. To maximize the energy released in a destructive matter you must make it so that the rod "explodes" at a certain point above ground. The rod hitting the ground is the last thing you want since you wanna maximize damage against Grimm hordes. So therefore the rod must "explode" in the air. Air burst nuke basically.

To achieve this you have multiple ways, engineer the rod so that like the Tunguska meteor it experiences a moment of critical stress just before impact at Mach Jesus that causes the rod to "explode" personally I'd say this approach is the impossible one. The science required for this isn't feasible unless you use Hard light dust that can somehow width stand orbital reentry at insane speeds. which seems like a waste.

Another option is to put a nuke in the damn thing, in which case why not just launch it from the ground?

You could perhaps use some type of dust warhead but again needs advances in dust physics/chemistry or whatever it's called.

The last and only way to make it work is either make it faster (extremely difficult to impossible) or make it way heavier (don't have the resources for this). Both of these is what the UNSC for their MAC's which aren't "rods from god" which explicitly are kinetic impactors released from a satellite that is deorbited and advanced only by gravity.

As I was writing this I realized there could be something you could do. Engineer a rod that makes pressure. That's how most explosions kill you anyway, so assuming Grimm are weak to the same thing, (theoretically they should be if Yang punching them kills them, oh wait, explosions kill them lol so yes it'll work) then you engineer the rod to, at the last moment, create and maximize pressure shockwaves (hypersonic shockwaves) that should generate so much pressure that it'll kill entire swarms and anything within a few hundred meters to kilometers.

I think you could just make ram air spikes that increase the corners and edges which will produce places for shockwaves to form, but I'm not an expert on aerospace and aerodynamics so that's up in the air.

Again issues of practicality rise up but it would be cleaner than a nuke, would minimize geological disturbances, with a wider area of effect, but would only work extremely far from populated areas. Which isn't a problem but it does depend on where the swarm forms so it isn't unbeatable either. Especially since windows will shatter tens of kilometers out.

Ahem. Here is the original intent of Rods from God:

-To drop Rods from God on Salem constantly so that she's too distracted by being effectively nuked every hour or so to coordinate Grimm. Even if she is immortal, hard to get anything done if your castle is a massive crater being bombarded from orbit constantly.

Dropping them on Grimm is a waste. Just drop them on Salem.

Does Auntie Obertha follow the Kerbal Space Program method of getting into space? if so Jaune is now the new Jeb Kerman.

She did... Then Isabel threatened to switch her arms and legs.

OZ would get a kick out of just bombing his ex wife's house over and over again…

Qrow's true nemesis in the Atlesian military isn't Ironwood or Winter; it's instead the long-suffering viper faunus, Captain E. Blackadder, who quickly becomes Blake's nemesis as well.

Ironwood: "Ah, Blackadder! I'd like you to meet our newest recruit, Bob!"
Blackadder: "...Bob, sir?"
Ironwood: "Full marks in the academy, letters of recommendation for all instructors; I daresay he has a magnificent career ahead of him!"
Blackadder: "He? HE?!"
Ironwood: "Really man, I fail to see what's so funny. Now, why don't you give young Bob the tour?"
Blackadder: *stares at an abashed Winter* "So, Bob, eh?"

Meanwhile, as part of his ongoing apprenticeship in the SDC, Whitley gets his own private office and personal secretary, one Bernard Woolley, who reports to the Schnee chief of staff, Humphrey Appleby. This drives both Weiss and Winter absolutely insane.

Dropping them on Grimm is a waste. Just drop them on Salem.

Just use a dust nuke, it's easier, more efficient, and does more damage. Or even just a conventional explosive missile. Getting a rod weighing several hundred to a few tons of tungsten or anything is impossibly expensive and an incredible waste of money.
