Other than direct messaging staff members, there is no way to privately contact them. I do not know if the staff want to get repeated alerts through direct messages?
 
Up to admins whether they want to create a dedicated private subforum for general user queries to staff, but I'll say PMs, reports, and the Appeals subforum are all fine contact avenues. The last gets non-appeal related queries occasionally.

Regarding PMs, if we don't know the answer, are too busy, or don't have the energy, we can just redirect you to another mod/venue. Additionally, I've only had ~20 users PM me regarding mod-related things in the past year, quite a few of which were as simple as 'unlock my thread', so, unless I'm an outlier, it's not really a problem atm.
 
Speaking personally, I tend to prefer the ability to dm a mod directly than work through a communication subforum. The reason for this is that on a forum, it would presumably be visible to all members of staff but when you Pm someone, it's only visible to that one. Now, I am not saying that one won't kick it upstairs if it should be a bigger thing - they absolutely will. But if you have an issue and you're not totally sure it's an issue, but you feel like it might be, imo, it's easier to single out one single mod that you have talked to before, you have a fairly stable opinion of and you feel is going to hear you out than just shout your issue into the void of a wide subforum where it could be seen by any mod.

As a starting point, going to some guy you've talked to before and saying ''Hey, I have this thing...'' is a lot easier than just setting it out there, you know?
