You know, with the timing of things there, the theory that Wesley kind of arranged things to keep his mother busy and less worried about him is something I could see being part of it.

Followed by an "Oh SHIT!" moment when he realizes the Vox thing
 
Just a heads up---"Star Trek: Picard" is going to be pretty different from the series proper by the time we get to it.
