That probably involved buying lots of machinery and parts from the US to modernize Italian industry. This Italy had semi preferential access to US market due Jewish and pro fascist influence (unlike Germany, Italy was allied to the US in the past world war), also because the war started far smaller to the point it couldn't be honestly be called a world war until the US declared on Germany and Japan and that dragged the Roman pact then exports controls are unlikely to be a factor between 1939 and 1942.


Lets remember at this point Germany and its puppet Slovakia are at war with the allies and Japan is at war with the Chinese united front. From a distance it looks like both wars are nothing more than opportunities to make money by selling both sides what they want and the US is more than fine with selling Japan and Italy what they need, its only after the diplomatic incidents and the number of atrocities start to accumulate that the US even starts to control what they sell and to who.

Ironically, Argentinians from that era probably understood italian a lot more than the italians did spanish. the lower class dialect of castillian spanish spoken in argentina, known as lunfardo, has most of its roots in italian (plus the fact that most of latin languages are somewhat intelegible to each other). nowadays its use has somewhat degenerated and cross comunication with italians is more difficult. Che was born in rosario so while the italian influence might not be as strong as someone born in CABA, its still a pretty major city.

also the timing of his tour is interesting, as he left in the midst of the second peronist government ( argentina's special blend of fascism) that is seldom remembered as it walked back many of the populist policies of the first government, lending credencce to his desilucionment of what he saw as the right coopting the worker movement. its interesting to see the reframing of his travels with his introduction to romanism/ reintroduction to fascism just as hes experiencing the death of that ideology in his own country.

The story was fun for about 50k, even without character development, coz all we care for is kingdom building...but then it started fizzling out.

1. Repetitive UK and Nazi council meetings, as well as MI6 reports - growing Mediterranean Empire, increase surveillance blabla, can't do anything but lets again talk more about it
2. Both councils start off normal, then become caricatures of incompetent shit talking and for the nazis ofc Evil glint in the eyes...
3. Throwing your music references in the reader face, no one cares, or if you're gonna nitpick, 95% don't care about Japanese city pop or even if you guessed everyones favorites.
