With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

Yeah, it's not like he can't get his own Silver Age ring.

Other Paul's have received different types of rings, so this one could have too.
There only exist Green and Yellow rings in the Silver Age.

The only source of Green is the Guardians, and the only Yellow one is on Sinestro's finger.

Presumably, if he needed a ring with the insane power of the silver age, he could just assimilate, no?

Going by the wiki page, the events of this comic are supposed to lead to one of the Guardians deciding to go on a road trip with Hal and Green Arrow. Paragon has mentioned it before. If this variant of Paul didn't derail things too much, it could lead to him joining the road trip.

Presumably, if he needed a ring with the insane power of the silver age, he could just assimilate, no?
No, because Silver Age Power Rings aren't universal blanks that can be filled with any light like the one's Orange Lantern deals with, they're actual mechanisms that are specifically designed to channel the specific spectrum of light and only that spectrum.

Okay.

Provide a comic panel, or comment from a Silver Age writer, or anyone from that era, where that's a stated fact.

Then provide similar evidence that the Orange Ring can't do that.

We've seen other Paul's assimilate other power sources and devices.

I am currently wondering what an Absolute Universe version of OL would be like?
As I understand it, the Absolute versions of power rings are completely different to actual power rings. An Absolute plot would be to force the SI into a setting where he's compelled to work for a tyrannical state on things he doesn't care about but can't quit. New Order universe, maybe?

The Guardians gave Paul a Lantern here so they have to be compatible in some way. Mr.zoat has changed hundreds of small things or added others they aren't canon to the comics in the story. And I don't think power rings here would be more powerful here than they are on Earth 16, when everything in the story has been toned down to more sensible levels of powers. Even the Silver Age Kara we know doesn't seem to be much better than Earth 16 kryptonians apart from having better senses and super ventriloquism.

Also, Silver age Hal must find an ORANGE Lantern seriously confusing as at the time there were just Green Lanterns and Sinestro.
If I understand what I've read of Absolute Green Lantern (unlikely) then if he were instantiated as a local equivalent to an Orange Lantern, he could get Orange Enlightenment by default, which is kind of neat?

As I understand it, the Absolute versions of power rings are completely different to actual power rings.

They don't even have rings, generally. One character kind of ends up with an actual wedding ring as a focus of the light they wield, but it's, uh, contrived, really. Though, for vague reasons, that also means that character didn't get enlightened, so maybe a Paul instantiated with a ring would just have that deal instead. It's not like it would be any more arbitrary for him.

Liberals will look you dead in the eyes and tell you that issue was good writing and that it fairly represented both sides.

This Liberal won't. I thought it was stupid characterization in the '70s, and said so in multiple letters pages, just as I tell the current crop of 'conservative' Trump cultists that they're full of shit.

Oi! You can talk shit about 70s politics all you like, but current day Trump is modern politics, and that's banned on this site. Any discussion of Trump must be 2006 era or earlier. I don't want to have to move to another website because someone else couldn't follow the rules.

"Correct. And that's because with the sole exception of the fact that he still calls a long-time Eskimo friend of his 'Pieface',-"

While it wasn't really that common knowledge at the time, or honestly even today, Eskimo is ALSO rather insulting on it's own as it comes not from them, but from different native groups further south.

Inuit or other more localized terms, generally translating to just 'The People' is what I taught to use growing up. Gov't both here and in the states are trying to shift the terminology, but it's got a fair bit of popular culture momentum to fight.

The guy has a point, not about saving aliens but about why the fuck Hal is bothering to arrest him.

Seriously, who gives a fuck if a slum lord's victim fights back. Hal could either be stopping a serious crime or taking a nap, not actively hurting morally innocent people.

God knows the poor schmuck is screwed as a black man being arrested in the 70's. Hal is basically being the incarnation of stupid lawful, to the point where Godwin's law obviously doesn't apply but damn does it not seem too far off.

He arrested him because he tried to murder an old man right in front of him.

Where would you even go at this point? AO3?

Other color power rings only came around in 2008.

Which means it's up to you to prove they do exist in the Silver Age, not me to prove they don't.

As to the other thing, Silver Age rings and Power Batteries aren't crystalized light, they're advanced regular ass machines, and Paul can't assimilate machines unless they're like robots with souls.

The slumlord is an old man. Jordan had no idea why he was being attacked, and wouldn't be all that sympathetic if he had.

He wouldn't be upset about a slumlord making a bunch of poor people homeless and them fighting back when they very obviously can't use legal methods??

Kinda making the guy seem more and more in the right about Jordan.
