she made that up, or rather she refused to admit whether she made it up or not.

Are you talking about the Velcro episode? Because I thought that was supposed to be T'Pol winding them up.
Yeah, that.

The young man who brought a pistol crossbow into the lecture hall looks around in confusion, but the security guards have already spotted him and are walking towards him with tasers in hand. He looks at his weapon, briefly considering whether to try firing it.
I look at the bolt in my hand, then transition it into his pocket for the proctors to find.
Security has already prevented the protestors gaining entry to the venue, and forced them away using some sort of sonic riot suppression device. They're still around, but they're not in easy shouting distance of the lecture theatre any longer.
H-uuuuuh.
Connecting to local surveillance systems… No, he didn't speak to the three suspicious fellows at this meeting. Drive up, took a moment in his car to psych himself up, and then headed in. Good planning or Stand Alone Complex? Don't know.
Scan the campus again... Nothing. Just outside campus…
Ah.
Yes, a pistol crossbow would be unlikely to kill someone immediately, but if Mayan was rushed towards an ambulance coming to the most likely exit…
Transition. And… Phased plasma gun.
Why do you need one?
I don't. But I like the noise they make.
The construct appears in my hand as I point it at the sniper just in front of me, his full attention focused on the lecture theatre's rear entrance.
And it makes the noise.
The sniper twitches, then freezes.
"You know… Last time a human killed a minbari V.I.P., it didn't go very well for our species."
"Y-. You're her escort."
"She's like a pet lemming. Having already saved her once, I'd feel a bit stupid if I let her die now." Scan again… "Ah. I see you have confederates down on the ground. Have to do something about them in a few moments."
"Am I under arrest?"
"Oh, no. I'm trying to decide between handing you over, killing you and just having you disappear. So… What's this supposed to do, exactly?"
"Kill the minbari. Too many humans bled and died to keep them from our world to let them just walk in."
Quick brain scan… Looks like he's being more or less honest, though the situation is pretty stressful so it's not completely reliable.
"So… The two that tried to kill her on Babylon Five. Was that anything to do with you?"
"What? I don't know… Homeguard has people everywhere."
"It just seems like a lot of effort for one poet-. Wait."
Ring, how many minbari are there on Earth?
One minbari detected.
Hm. "The only minbari you could actually reach." I shake my head as he risks looking over his left shoulder to get a look at me. "And then what?"
"What?"
"What does Homeguard think happens if you kill her?" He puts his right hand-. "Remain where you are, please." He freezes. "Hand down." He complies, lowering himself back into a fully prone position. "What happens next?"
"We claim responsibility. Publically."
"You personally, or the organisation?"
"Homeguard."
"And if the Minbari Federation declares war?"
"We've spent a decade arming up! It won't go down like last time!"
It's true, Earthforce had undertaken a massive expansion and upgrade program after the war. The confusingly-named Omega class destroyer is supposed to be able to lock onto minbari warships with its impressive quantity of firepower. I say 'confusingly' because it's really more of a cruiser, or perhaps a battlecruiser. Battlecarrier? It's not intended to escort larger ships but to operate either on its own or in squadrons. It's nothing like as fast, agile, or heavily armoured as the minbari equivalent, has a rotating crew section for centrapedal force rather than having artificial gravity and of course being able to lock on doesn't mean that it's easy or reliable-.
"Do you know why Earthforce didn't just use camera drones for targetting minbari warships during the war?"
He hesitates for a moment.
"What?"
"The coating on minbari ships make it hard to lock onto them. But they're turquoise and don't use painted camouflage or disguise holograms. Spreading a few thousand cheap camera drones throughout a system shouldn't have been that hard, and the fleet could use their optical imaging to target the minbari at range."
"Ah… I dunno?" … "Would-? Would that actually work?"
"Depends how the minbari officers assess threats. Minbari fighters could just destroy them… But my point is that even with an expanded navy, I don't think that our fleet would stand up to theirs much better today than it did then. We don't have any of the key technologies that give them their edge. We'd do better, sure-."
"Is that why you're sucking up to her? Joining the winning side, traitor?!"
"More 'learning how the enemy thinks', because I want human civilisation to be stronger. I'm just realistic about how strong we are right now, and the fact is that the minbari are stronger than us, the centauri are stronger than us, and the narns aren't weaker than us, and randomly attacking poets isn't going to change that. Rallying the base isn't suddenly going to result in us getting artificial gravity, or neutron lasers." Whatever those are. Neutrons aren't photons, but maybe the gun makes them interact? "For now, we need to act nice, smile politely, and generally convince all of our neighbours that we're not a problem and we're not going to be a problem. And while we're smiling and shaking hands and generally being pleasant, we expand, colonise, make advantageous trade treaties while subtly playing our rivals against each other and improving our technological base in whatever way we can. And then when we're actually strong enough, then we assert ourselves. Not before. And not because short-sighed yahoos like you decided to shoot a poet. Do you understand, you short-sighted goob?"
"… Huh?"
I change the PPG for a stunner, and shoot him, and he collapses face first to the rooftop.

Clearly they decided to pre-empt the 'every ship with a weapon is a battleship' thing and just call everything destroyers.

Heh. Nothing like stopping an assassination via projectile by catching said projectile in flight and tucking it into the assassin's pocket. Both for style points and for clear evidence...
Sonic weapons being a bit more gentle than water cannons, relatively speaking and easier to maintain operation longer, obviously.
Technically nothing to do with the 'Ghost in the Shell' spin-off, mind. While the series used the name for it's idea of copycat terrorists, people who want to do crimes and violence for ideological reasons have always cribbed others' notes for centuries.
...Ah, pushing the principal into a prepared ambush in a smaller, more controllable space.
It's always a classic. Nothing says 'please, make my day' than that ominous hum.
Don't forget the glow of doom from the barrel!
Might remember it? War of genocide that ended mysteriously? You might even have fought in it, son?
Basically a minder. Keep her out of incidental trouble.
So be very helpful, son, and you might get to avoid disappearing.
...Oh, he's just an idiot. More guts than sense.
I would assume any communications between Earth and the station are logged, if not recorded. So I doubt anyone passed on incriminating instructions. And this guy does seem like a grunt.
Ah, that is a good point. What if they were planning a simultaneous attack on multiple persons?
...And this is why superheroes wear masks. Although Matthew's face isn't exactly distinctive, it probably is starting to draw connections to various oddities across Earth space.
Honestly, should have fabricated some handcuffs or something.
Oh, yes, have a Human organisation come out and declare with your whole chest that you killed a popular poet and will kill any Minbari who steps foot on Earth territory. That'll go down well... </s>
...Eh...I suppose with the Minbari leadership's knowledge, they might not be as aggressive about it.
Could be 'Destroyer' as a role designation, not a class. Like a Tank Destroyer.
Because you don't eyeball weapons of mass destruction, soldier. Nor fire from the hip like a cowboy.
...I mean, with smartly-coded computers to cross-reference angles and triangulate positions, that could work?
So they might only suffer losses of 8:1 instead of 10:1.
...Maybe it's a directed stream of matter that breaks neutrons off what it hits and causes nuclear reactions in doing so? I don't know, it just sounds technobabbly.
That's certainly a way to look at it.
To be fair, he is probably a grunt for a reason.
And of course they're going to be checking every camera they can in the area. I assume this guy's little perch is well-hidden from them, though.
Don't weep for the stupid, you'll be crying all day.
Oh, he's going to be doing this all day, isn't he? One self-righteous idiot after another trying to take a shot, only to be foiled by a mysterious man who seems to be everywhere at once. All because they're too angry about Minbari to think rationally about how to advance their species. I don't envy Matthew's headache before he's done...

She literally had the purse her ancestor got on earth in a drawer.
No?
Active Minbari jamming technology is hard canon and is directly referenced in at least one episode.
It's also partially gravititc in nature and distorts outgoing light, among other things, so the only way to get through it is either to use extradimensional sensors or fly a bit towards the vessel, visually adjust course, fly a bit more, then rinse and repeat till you get to the minbari ship.
Honestly this whole bit is so "armchair general" its annoying. Because yes, sure, an entire civilization of humans never thought to try this extroidinarly simply solution.

Okay, it seems the lecture is either about to start, or has started. He's been busy...
Well, at least that'll guarantee that he'll get to spent some time in jail.
Honestly, he'd probably listened enough propaganda that he'd be a decent recruit for the Homeguard, but he either didn't go looking for them and they missed him.
Agree. You hear that sound, you know it's primed for end someone.
You got caught, scum. Now, the question is...are you ex-military, or active military as part of Homeguard.
...okay, not gonna comment on that, but the question is on point. True, Shaal Mayan isn't up there like Dukhat was, but the response would have been...not fun at all.
Feel that shiver up your spine, scum. And a very good question.
*sigh* And not surprised in the least. I'd respect the attitude more if he'd tried this with a Warrior Caste member, but they don't really present themselves publicly like this, so the opportunity is never going to present itself. So if you want minbari blood, you have to settle for...softer targets who present themselves.
That may be true, and you have access to...interesting toys...but you're not that numerous.
The most poignant question. Honestly, even the Shadow's were interested in it. Of course, the interest in that was whether or not the person asked would be worth it to them as a contact.
... *sigh* you dumb...motherf***er...
...you...absolute...braindead... *makes strangling motions*
Huh. That'd...probably work. Minbari Sharlin can be seen with cameras and with your eyes, you can't just get a target lock on them. And if I remember right, EarthForce hasn't managed to crack that at all. If they had the means to target Minbari ships, Clark's forces wouldn't have turned tail and run when they came for Babylon 5 at the start of the Earth Civil War.
It probably would have made a more fair fight, with higher Minbari casualties. I mean, it wasn't completely one sided, Earth Alliance caused deaths for the minbari, but those were from either traps like Sheridan did with Black Star, or just ramming a Sharlin with a Nova Dreadnought. Now...whether they could cause enough casualties for Minbari...that's the question.
...no, that isn't it at all. And bold of you to assume that you're on the winning side, buddy.
*sigh* That right there, tells me exactly what the thought process was for the Homeguard. And it was zero.
You're lucky, Mr wannabe assassin.
Oh, your job isn't done yet, I suspect.
Pretty ballsy for Homeguard so far. At least they haven't tried to actually storm the event yet.

The actual location of Minbari ships with active jamming suites can not be seen with camers or with a persons eyes outside of very very close ranges.
Earth Force actually does manage to crack the jamming problem eventually, but it required the shadowtech based hyperspace echolocation system on the Warlock class.
Presumably the Omega X could also do so as they successfully engaged the White Star fleet.
And of course the Nemesis class, but we only really get to see that once in Crusade.

Take that claim of being able to lock onto Minbari ships with more than a few grains of salt and political postering. As for the Omega being better.... Sure. It's faster, tougher and better armed than any Earth Force ship before it, carries more fighters than anything short of a Poseidon class Super Carrier and its simulated gravity means it can stay in the field longer. It will still only last a few seconds longer against a Sharlin than a Nova(the rule of thumb is, 1-2 shots for a Hyperion, 3-4 for a Nova-5-6 shots for an Omega from a neutron laser).
If it could lock on and target Minbari ships, it's got the firepower to definitely hurt them, but that is a big if. A truism that was true even during the war with previous generation Earth Force ships.
Because it wouldn't work. While Minbari armor does have some refracting properties when it comes to optical imaging... the actual Jammer is the true problem. How it works is similar to a gravitic shield in that it is a field of gravity surrounding the ship. But instead of slowing, deflecting or stopping incoming weapons fire, it uses gravitic lensing to distort and deflect active sensor scans and light, preventing target locks(a devastating problem considering usual combat ranges in B5).
Think of Minbari Jammers as the local B5 equivalent to Eldar Holo-fields.
The name "laser" is a misnomer. It's actually a neutron particle beam(using gravitic acceleration instead of magnetic for obvious reasons) that inflicts damage by inducing fission.
Technically, it's Shadowtech upgraded HEL-track systems. According to the IPX sourcebook, the hyperspace echolocation system is a basic navigation system for traveling through Hyperspace but the addition of Shadowtech can make it significantly more powerful as well as able to scan in both Hyperspace and Realspace at the same time.

She had a purse. She easily could have got this purse from elsewhere and made up a story about it.

"going to result"
"Hands down"
It would be really weird if she did that.
And it's not that weird to think they visited during the 20th century; they had the tech and Earth was close.

Hmm. That sounds like the British Museum is about to get new exhibits.
