With This Ring (Young Justice SI) (Thread Fourteen)

That should say 'be'.
Thank you, corrected.
Would Bane work well with a red lantern ring? I know that's not a usual option, but he has some of the right temperament, depending on the version.
If he wasn't dead, yes. Lots of people can. Few can remain focused and useful.
Thank you, corrected.
Freeing Atrocitus means freeing someone that's very good at using the red light and thus you potentially run a very high risk of him escaping and forming the Red Lanterns, who will fight the Green Lantern Corps and maybe the OLC because they're Maltusian organizations, which would mean that now the likes of the Reach and other evil elements don't have to worry so much.
In the SI's estimated there's a reduced chance of Atrocitus going after the Controllers, because while they were involved in creating the Manhunters they wanted them destroyed afterwards whereas the Guardians kept them in service.

Anyone who can get angry can use a Red Ring.
I think this is still true in WtRverse but iirc Paul needed someone that could still focus enough through the rage so that they could contribute to fusing into the White Light on Darkheim's soul. Probably a nice bonus that Orion doesn't become a rage zombie permanently dependent on the red ring to substitute his heart too, considering his physiology without Alan having to interfere…

Aaaand somewhat ninja's by WoG. Damn it.

This update feels weird, the conversation with Roy about the space ship feels like it would happen before leaving Earths LEO or at most during the travel to Supertown, even enlightened Paul still took a minute to get to Vega and Vega is mentioned as being fairly close to earth (with a small moat with no stars), so going to Supertown should have lasted long enough for that conversation to happen.

@Mr Zoat

I know ring ftl speeds exist as the plot demands because its related to the mindset of the user and his emotional state at the time of use, but I though being enlightened meant that Paul would always give at least 90% to whatever he decided to do.

Before Paul went to Vega he was largely confined to Earth due to his oath.

Arisia isn't confined to a single planet, so even though she may be a rookie, she still has experience in flying through space.

When you're in a metal case with ftl blur all around you, it doesn't really hit in the same way as seeing the planet right there beneath you. Roy wasn't showing any desires relating to it earlier as he hadn't been in that position before. He knew that he didn't have a problem flying; he flies in his power armour frequently.

Alternately, if you don't like that answer, assume that Scott Free opened a boom tube for them and they were standing on a planet a moment before. It won't matter either way.

Oh yeah, Scott Free being able to open boom tubes makes the Lantern FTL speed thing from earlier far less important. The significance of a Lantern being present would just be that they can contact Scott Free across interstellar distances.

They probably can't, actually. Scott doesn't have a power ring. They'd have to contact one of the Lanterns on Earth or the Watchtower and ask them to pass a message along. The Lanterns would also enable them to fly back if he was busy.
@Mr Zoat - I had a thought, could Orion be helped in to becoming an enlightened red ring?
Yes. Sadly, Geoffrey Talbot didn't survive the Anti-Life and the SI has no idea who could help.

Another flex. Just imagine the kind of 'projection technology' needed to produce that big an image that far from the planet.

Highfather did the same thing the first time OL visited, and there was some exposition about how OL couldn't figure out how Highfather was doing it. The ring didn't detect any kind of projection technology, and his runestones weren't detecting any magic. It was (and these are my words not Zoat's) like Jack Kirby himself was drawing Highfather on the background of space.

I feel myself stiffen, and my left hand stops tracing idle circles around Luna's shoulder as she rests atop me.

Oh dear. That's a-

She shifts slightly, her eyes opening tiredly.

-problem.
Which kind of 'stiffen'?
"Thou hast best not be thinking of Our Sister in relation to recent events."

I frown in puzzlement. "Of course not: I wasn't flaccid."
Hah.
How is he more than 5 feet tall at that age?
He's still wearing the ring, I note, his eyes glowing a faint yellow.
This is going to end well.
"…really great cake." I wince. "I just watched the whole thing. Snack and a show. Thought about keeping it but…" He shrugs. "I could not find out how it tasted, could I?"
Bit of a non-sequitur no? Where'd the cake come from?
"Hey yourself, big boy. I am, but what she doesn't know doesn't hurt her, r-?"
Hah.
Someone's using John's history erasure ritual. And while we can't track the records, we should be able to track the magic.
On a side note, how exactly does that work? Electronic records disappear or get corrupted, but does the ink or whatever for paper records disappear or just become indecipherable along with the picture randomising or sth?
Ambrose nods at me as I come in to land. His hair's mostly grown back now after he… Got Anti-Lifed and drafted into a slave gang. At the moment he looks almost respectable. Alan and Johanna can carry on interviewing suspects without me, but I need my go-to street magician to try to track down whoever performed that ritual.
This is probably a stupid question, but why doesn't he assimilate some relatively skilled evil magician? I assume they won't be able to do magic, but considering Gary kept his fungus manipulation, or at least manipulated the orange light to manipulate fungi in the same way, an assimilated magician should be able to do something right?
"Oh-kay." She nods and smiles. "Ah'm glad that's sorted out. I-."
Needs an 's'.
"When the Anti-Life… Happened, he… Kind of managed to ward it off. Just a.. little. But the fat went bad real fast. We ended up raiding clinics and stuff." He raises his hands defensively. "And I know we-."
Surprisingly innocent.
The interior… 'Work space' is basic but up to code. There's a nitrogen tank I remember from… Work on Earth Prime, and a clean room with a fume cabinet, and a work bench covered in equal parts scientific equipment, magic books and alchemical reagents. More of the same fills three shelving units set against the walls, and power is provided by…
What kind of accounting work needs a nitrogen tank? I assume you've had more than one job at least, but going from welding or maybe manufacturing is a pretty big jump. Unless you saw someone else use it of course.
"Orange Lantern. Ah, hello, hello!" Mr. Levi walks up to me, offering me his right hand. I politely shake it. "Ambrose was just telling me-. Your tattoos! Do they really make you immune to all magic detection?"
Does he want the ring or Paul himself?
Dust correspondence. Obvious, really.
Is it? I mean I'm not going to question the logic too much, but eh? As for the hair thing, would it also require shaving your nostril hairs and the hairs lining your trachea?
Compliance.Working.
Well that's not good.
He squares up to the smaller man. "I'm a better-." Something appears to occur to him as I get closer. "I see. Yes, I suppose-." He relaxes, making a point of slumping his shoulders in a way I've seen Superman do when in Clark Kent mode. "I'm sorry. Enginehead is a friend of mine. My concern for his health has left me with a short temper."
Too bad his enlightenment won't last. Wonder if repeated and long periods of contact will make it easier for him to become enlightened normally.
Dead link.
"Technically, having not declared otherwise, My Queen and her allies and Underlords are neutral in the war between System Lord Apophis and System Lord Heru'ur. Prior to his death, Supreme System Lord Ra did not formally declared either his brother or his son to be his heir designate, so we don't feel any real obligation to pick a side." I glance at Zipacna and Klorel in the defence box, giving them a pseudo-apologetic smile and shrug. "Which means that by goa'uld standards, letting them fight it out is perfectly reasonable."
Extra 'd'.
"I wound Zeus up until he broke guest rights, then got saved by Hephaestaean who proceeded to beat the stuffing out of him. Which included cracking his skull and releasing Metis. Which means that he's only got his own wisdom to draw upon, but should make the human species a little more intelligent."
Is...that..how it works? So if he killed another god like Metis, would it stack?
"It's his sole avatar, with a lot of his power bound until he gets a degree in meteorology. I haven't looked into exactly how it works."
Meteorology? Makes sense, but why? Who even placed that vow on him? Why even give him a chance to recover?
"Alright. One moment. Please run the program while I call in backup." He nods, Mr. Bierce raises his hands, and a moment later a familiar dust cloud rises around the hologram projector. I raise my right hand to my ear as the program executes. "Orange Lantern to Blitzen, not that one and not that one."
I'm surprised he has a reindeer's phone number.
"It… Was. Ah. Then… Various things happened and it's been in a nose dive ever since. Low fatalities during the Anti-Life due to pre-existing misery. Plenty of abandoned manufacturing sites to hide things in. Want me to pick you up?"
Sounds like our Detroit.
"Close your mouth, turn around, walk out." Above Your Pay Grade
Hah.
She frowns, turning to face me. "And now I realise that I do not know much about what you do when you are not on Earth."
He's a galactic war criminal lady, you should run.
She's smiling, and while she hasn't matched the local accent her natural German accent is entirely missing.
I assume she keeps it normally due to patriotism or because it feels unnatural to speak like that for so long.
Johanna stares. "No."
Yes.
"Ah, look. Clearly you-." NO! "Clearly I inadvertently insulted your competence. I apologise."
Damn, that was one hell of a correction midway through.
He stands there, completely calm, as he sees me.
Needs an 's'
"What the f-? Flip?"
Seems unnecessary.
Would that work? I don't think the standard ritual would, but what does the standard ritual actually do? It doesn't edit history, it just makes the records not-. Does it send them somewhere else? If it was paper records I could believe that it set them on fire or something, but-. No, a fire would attract attention. And it can't increase the chance of them being misplaced to near 100% because if that's all it did I could find them. And misplaced computer records would still be on the daily backups, and they'd probably still be on the hard disk until the sector was overwritten.
Yeah so adding to my previous question, it probably just fucks shit up without causing major damage. Corrupts data, messes up ink and pictures. Probably fucks up carvings too.
Dr. Metcalf is using… Some sort of scanner to study the samples of Mr. Blank's blood, before and after his change. While I don't really respect his motives for becoming a superhero, he is a technological genius. I'm honestly not sure if the scanner is something he developed himself or if it's on indefinite loan from Arnus, but it looks like it should do the job.
Why did he become a hero?
I don't want to be that person.
Would you look at that, character development. Granted he wouldn't have done this at his worst either, but I still kinda expected him to snipe him.
I nod, looking for the patterns of desire that mark an enlightened… Oh. I can't see him. Fortunately, I remember what the other scientists look like.
Did he assume he permanently became enlightened? Bit of a under reaction considering they need more of those for the Corps.
Huh, it's a bit odd seeing him feel this guilty ngl.
1000 word Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Evening after work.
2000 Saturday and Sunday. Afternoon and evening.
Huh, how long does it usually take? 2 hours?
Must've sucked.
Because he's three years old.
Fair. Proper grammar is probably something they have programmed into them, but I suppose mannerisms still exist.
If that's the issue, M'gann should probably get arrested in canon for paedophilia as well as terrorism.
M'gann in canon should get arrested for a lot of things.
Shillings and crowns, colonial!
Works well enough I suppose. And once again, ironic.
Towards the end of series three. As part of Batman's stupid 'Justice League Black' plan, she started attacking LexCorp facilities while in the form of supervillains.
I mean I'm sure there's a reason for it, but what's the point in destroying shit as villains? They don't really have a reputation to destroy and if it was just to be able to destroy stuff without being tracked, she could just use an entirely unique form no? I'm sure Lex can call up his buddies and ask if they attacked or not. Not that he'd need to considering it doesn't fit their MO.

Firstly, because he tends not to like assimilating people for moral reasons (though he did resolve to try to assimilate some monsters after he got in trouble with that ghost hydra death curse, which I don't think he has actually followed up on).

Secondly, he actually has done this twice. He assimilated Nabu-666 and has used his knowledge once or twice, but he hates Nabu so he prefers not to use him. He also assimilated Satanus, who was able to use magic after assimilation, but he got turned into a normal human by Finality Man's Omega beams.

I think you mean the Sheeda, as you've previously said down below.
How do you people remember these things?
How is he more than 5 feet tall at that age?
He's not. As per the comic, his 'head' is stuck on his shoulders on a frame.
Bit of a non-sequitur no? Where'd the cake come from?
While under the influence of the Ophidian, the SI made a very big cake. That and the giant naked statue are his most embarrassing moments.
On a side note, how exactly does that work? Electronic records disappear or get corrupted, but does the ink or whatever for paper records disappear or just become indecipherable along with the picture randomising or sth?
The comic doesn't explain it, but I imagine that it either literally vanishes, becomes impossible to find or people find that they've mistakenly shredded it.

He has both Demon Nabu and Satannus as constructs. But given how old and powerful they both are, he doesn't want to take risks. In the comics the Construct Lanterns were able to regain flesh.
Thank you, corrected.

That's for freezing biological samples.
Does he want the ring or Paul himself?
His tattoos are fascinating.
Is it? I mean I'm not going to question the logic too much, but eh? As for the hair thing, would it also require shaving your nostril hairs and the hairs lining your trachea?
In The Laundry Files, SOE officers have to record their paperclip usage because they can be used to track paperwork.

Having not been a priest in Ancient Kahndaq, I couldn't say.
Works for me. Anyone else?
Thank you, corrected.
Is...that..how it works? So if he killed another god like Metis, would it stack?
It's not about killing, it's about absorbing their power. You can do that to a degree by killing them, but Zeus found a way to trap them and gain their full power.

Another god could do the same thing, if they knew how.
Meteorology? Makes sense, but why? Why even give him a chance to recover?

Who even placed that vow on him?
Hephestaean
I'm surprised he has a reindeer's phone number.
When you're a superhero, you just have to know these things.
Thank you, corrected.
Why did he become a hero?
His boss wouldn't give him a raise.
Huh, how long does it usually take? 2 hours?
Somewhere between 2 and 4.
It was a gag.
I mean I'm sure there's a reason for it, but what's the point in destroying shit as villains? It's a bad plan, but if I had to guess they want the Light to know about it but want plausible deniability for the general public.
Thank you, corrected.
I can't remember, what happened to the Red Lantern ring after Orion threw it back at Paul?
He kept it. The hands of someone enlightened with a different colour is just about the only safe place to put it.
He gave it to dox to keep safe, far away from earth and it's insanity
Or maybe he did that. I don't really remember.

Or maybe he did that. I don't really remember.

The doors slide open. "Come in, Illustres." I obey, and the doors close behind me. "I take it that the Earth is no longer under the affect of the Anti-Life."

"Yes. The Atlanteans. Can I take them home for a month or so?"

"That would not disrupt any critical operations. And it would encourage them to keep working for us in the long term." He nods, once. "You have my permission."

I nod, and take the red ring out of my pouch. "Can you find somewhere safe to put this? My hiding places have a poor track record."

"Certainly. Leave it on the desk. And keep me updated on your progress. In the long term, N.E.M.O. will need to fight Apokolips as well."
For those interested.

No, Zoat said that Orion was basically the only one that could actually be useful because he can actually focus his rage, so he wasn't lying to Izaya.

Others may be able to wield a ring, but that doesn't mean they can use it in a meaningful way.
General reminder that we have seen what they needed to do.

"Focus his Rage" wasn't required, all that was required was blasting the broadcaster in time with the others.

He has both Demon Nabu and Satannus as constructs. But given how old and powerful they both are, he doesn't want to take risks. In the comics the Construct Lanterns were able to regain flesh.

Reminder that Satannus became flesh again, but completely mortal and powerless, after being hit by finality man.
