Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

to get back on my last post I wonder if the rebellion gets info on las and his family would some of the more extreme factions think that if they try to kidnap his mom that they might get him to either join up for her protection or if he will lock down the entire sector to look for her. which if it does happen i can see create rumors that he is a mommas boy.

I totally see Las not wanting to do anything but having to show face if only to keep the population from trying rip the sector apart with them thinking if he loses his mom he might end up going full tyrant or because they like Las so much that an attack on his family is basically an attack on the whole sector. it would be funny if he tries to send them credits to keep his mom away except they misunderstand it somehow or his mom thinks it's him paying for ransom to get her back safely which somehow works but she feels insulted at how small the payment was when it really wasn't.

I'm seeing this and the most hilarious thing that comes to mind is if Las' pension he gave her is enough to set her up in mansion, (probably an idea by his dad/sisters to keep her out of trouble and their hair) so People think he basically forced his mother into retirement only to put up in the sweet life. thus somehow creating rumors that he Loves his mother and wants nothing more then for her to relax. but Jir keeps having Political parties in hopes of being able to make connections again. but everyone who visits keeps on saying how great her son is and how she must be proud to be able to retire with her son paying for everything. They are also visiting in hopes of making connections to Las by his mother which she her self is using to try and make connection again.

The ironic thing is that she actually went all the way back to her Coruscant sublevel roots instead of doing the stereotypical "spurned elite" thing, getting the cheapest flat she could find and filling the pantry with dehydrated noodles. Basically "I'm out of a job, that means it's time to spend no money until I can get a new job."

I think it's hilarious, she's decided to just start over from the beginning and claw back her professional/social status through sheer drive and a frightening level of administrative excellence. It'll blindside anyone who thinks she's just another pampered Coreworlder, and when the shoe eventually drops everyone will "realize" that she's where Las gets it from.

Give her 5 years and Las is going to do surprise pikachu face when she takes the guild over through sheer determination and drill sergeant energy.

the history books will write down that Las and his mother were inspirations to each other to keep pushing themselves for the people that were under them. she will probably be one the few members of his family that gets more then a chapter or a foot note in the books. like I see the other members mostly getting the " they were related to Las" treatment except maybe Las' pilot sister who will probably have more recognition beyond just they were related to Las.

Like the others will likely at most be mentioned beyond being related to them be kind of being locked to what ever academy they end up setting up or inspiring. Like the ISB sister will be referenced in espionage focused academies. but Las' Pilot sister would likely stand out beyond your standard Imperial Naval academies as she will probably be used as propaganda to remind the people that Las has his family joining the military. Kind of like Belgian royal family during WWI who had their king on the front lines, their queen as a nurse and their 13 year old prince as a messenger who would often find himself on the front lines when it came to deliver messages to the front.

Omake: Homesteader's Day

POV: Jimbobio, second son and 18th generation Dantooine farmer, 1st generation Ugean farmer, Village of Bending Reeds, Rolling Greens area, Ugea

A distant cry of a Gorak greeted Jimbobio as he stretched his back. His gaze meeting the Imperial flag waving in the morning breeze. Getting up early in the morning always required him to pop something right. The wife and kids would be sleeping in after they all stayed up late for the eldest's birthday. However work on a farm was never truly done. He gave one last stretch before reaching his home's charging unit.

"Oi Asper! Wake up! Time to do the early morning chores!"

The ASP labor droid unfolded in a facsimile to Jimbobio's stretches. Asper had grown on the family since settling on the farm. Couple of years can generate a lot of fondness even for animate objects. Kids always got worried when something went wrong with him, insisting Jimbobio take him to "the droid doctor". They seemed more attached to the droid than the animals on the farm at times.

"Right I'll need to check on the crops while I gather everyone else. You make sure no critters have gotten into the fields and the plants are doing well, ya hear?"

Jimbobio watched Asper trundle off before making his way to the garage they installed on the side of the house. It wasn't really a proper garage, more a small shed they built to keep the rain and wind out. However it was sturdy enough that they felt safe storing the farm's single vehicle and the farm tools in there. Mounting the farm Commuter Gravsled, Jimbobio made a quick trip to the second residence on his property.

When the first harvest had come in, Jimbobio had opted not to start paying the principal on his loan. Interest was cheap enough that he felt comfortable investing more into the farm while saving the rest in case an opportunity popped up. That opportunity came when one of his neighbors, a lone city slicker, decided to quit the farming business halfway through their harvest. Apparently they underestimated how much physical labor was involved in farming and fell behind schedule. Probably thought he could leave everything to the droid the program gave them. Plenty of their crops in their fields still looked only half grown. The quitter had applied for the bare minimum of land, which Jimbobio swooped in to snatch up.

One business plan and loan application his wife had helped write up later and Jimbobio's family owned both the meagre plot and a small portion of the hills beyond it. The family used the time after post-harvest tilling to clear the old crops and begin converting the fields into pastureland. The homestead prefab was turned into a workers cottage with a bit of rearranging and some utility work done. After that he contacted the Rolling Greens Unemployment Office on his farm's PAD to put out an ad. It did not take long to start seeing applications.

"Morning everyone! Who's ready to start another beautiful day of farm work?"

Groans replied as the farm workers Jimbobio hired were still getting the sleepers out of their eyes. Might sound weird to some that folks were looking for work on another person's farm when land was so abundant. However running a farm and working a farm were two different things. Some sentients are going to be more suited for the latter than the former. Especially if they ain't willing or able to go through the Homesteader Program.

That being said the deal wasn't all bad for the hired farm workers. Some only came for a busy season, others wanted to stay year round. Some were working to earn enough to buy a farm of their own. Others were saving a nest egg to pay for higher education and to have something to subsist on during their studies. Then again there were others who just wanted an honest day's work without having to deal with all the commitment and flimsiwork that came with owning.

"Right! Finish up your morning routines and then head out to your assigned plots. Don't give me a reason to replace you with droids now."

As for why Jimbobio would hire an organic over just buying another droid like Asper? Well it just seemed right to offer folks a chance to earn their daily bread, like he had been offered. Providing for others is what farmings all about, even if it ain't the most profitable way of doing things. That being said, the subsidies the government offered for hiring people over droids helped salve the sting of lost profits a bit. He figured the government came to the conclusion that they couldn't tax droids as frequently as they did organics.

There's also the fact that Jimbobio saw bringing in more folks into Bending Reeds as an investment in its future. The village was new and the residents were still only in the hundreds. There were few buildings outside of the Main Street with the cantina, a general store, a clinic, a government services building, and some utilities. The dozens of folks living in the town proper were still outnumbered by the surrounding farm households. More folks around town means more customers at next week's farmers market, more attendees watching the Shaak Rodeo every month, and more laughs every evening at the cantina. Droids don't got much use for vormfruit, rodeo tickets, or a mug of wheat beer after all.

"Rikkada, you're on Gorak duty. Hope you ready to go up on down those hills."

Goraks were an interesting critter. The Alderaanians brought it with them when they set up that enclave of theirs. Now his family weren't bird raisers, but the man he bought it from swore by them and offered a small batch for cheap. Jimbobio put their coop in the hills and his flock had grown to a respectable forty birds. Made it a pain to track one down when it got loose, but the birds seemed to enjoy the terrain.

Numbers were getting high enough that he was considering selling the meat and eggs rather than just growing the flock more. Animal products generally sold more than crops weight wise. Jimbobio could look into seeing if he could swing a contract with the enclave next time he visited Rolling Greens with the wife and kids. Give them a taste of nostalgia. Speaking of nostalgia…

"Gortex you are on Bol duty. Remember to be gentle like I showed you and they won't be a bother while you milk them."

One of the proudest moments for Jimbobio is when he got to pick up four dairy Bols from the starport. His family had a few back on the farm on Dantooine and the kids always said they missed the taste of fresh Bol milk in the morning. Converting the additional farm property into pastureland for livestock was the cornerstone of his business plan. He had primarily been thinking of raising Bols when he proposed it.

Judging by the sales numbers when Bol milk had been introduced, he made the right decision. If they can secure some regular orders among the wholesalers when the novelty wears off, the farm is set. Maybe his contact on Voss would be interested given Bol numbers were down on Dantooine again this year? Bols were pretty popular on the export market after all.

"Vravraro you got a history of working with Shaaks. So I trust you know what to do today."

The Shaaks were more a placeholder in Jimbobio's plan. A way to make his proposal more appealing to the local bank. Personally he didn't particularly care for the animal. However they were popular on Ugea and sourcing the animals and know how was trivial. Plenty of places were willing to take Shaak products so finding a buyer was simple with his certifications. No sense in keeping the land fallow when it could be put to productive use.

However just because people on this planet like Shaaks doesn't mean Jimbobio wanted to ranch them long term. He made sure to source mature Shaaks with a few years left in them for a discount. They would last long enough for him to get more Bols. Either he would import more dairies or get a stud to grow his herd the natural way. The thought of having a proper and growing herd brought a smile to his face.

"Suwanwa, you'll be with me with the crop fields. Asper has already gone ahead and the kids will be showing up late today. Still, we should be able to get everything done in time for a late lunch."

Working the fields was far easier than the farm's first year. No clearing stones or pulling up deep roots. Just good soil and a new supply of Gorak litter to spread around. Saves on having to buy more manure from the Homesteader Program. Jimbobio just glad they managed to expand the refresher in the workers cottage to accommodate the needs of four full grown adults working a farm.

"Right see you all at lunchtime. Let's make this another great day!"

So began another day on Jimbobio's farm. Growing alongside dozens of farms around the new village of Bending Reeds. Yet another village extending out across the landscape from the initial settlements turned cities of Ugea. As the world continues is transformation from frontier to a fully inhabited world.

——

A look back at the dirt level at how Jimbobio's life on Ugea is going after two years. As much as there is a population boom in the cities, there is probably also a similar population boom in the rural areas as well. Farm work doesn't have to require a higher end degree. Some farming certificates can be earned a lot faster than say a doctorate and a large portion of incoming migrants are going to be familiar with the industry. Leading to more sentients heading to the countryside to continue doing what they know how to do to earn a living.

I can see Ugea's government encouraging this trend. The more the rural population expands, the more of its still plentiful unpopulated wilderness gets converted into taxable rural communities. Ugea's form of government with its local representatives is built to handle that kind of decentralization better than most of its contemporary Imperial planetary governments. Not to mention it is easier to build new towns, infrastructure, or mining when there is already an existing community there to draw manpower from. Especially when that community has a landless population that is used to hard labor.

Also for all some people romanticize the single homesteading family taking care of the entire farm themselves, farming more often than not includes more than just blood relatives once it grows past a certain point. There is going to be that class of non-landowning farm workers springing up as farms consolidate, hire more hands, and seek to become more efficient. Population density per individual farm is going to go up as a result. Trying to replace them all with droids would take a monumental amount of effort and probably not worth it in the early stages of agriculture.

Fortune truly favored him. That could be the only possible explanation for his predicament.

From a minor son of a minor industrial dynasty on a backwater world to Governor-General of an entire oversector, propelled upwards by all the right connections, plans and luck.

And when the greatest threat to his position reared its head? Luck struck once more.

This time, in the form of one Las Mola.

Now, with the information provided from the raid conducted on a Governor in the Myto Sector, Hiral had all he needed to take down Surrde. He'd never suspected the man, always saw him as a hardliner with more bark than bite.

Apparently, he knew how to bite.

"Do we have any idea of the forces he might sway to his side?" He asked, eyes locked with the projection.

"We estimate that he's likely to at best hold one or two star destroyers in loyalty to himself. The rest of the fleet are unlikely to side with him." Replied Fleet Admiral Heeter.

"Good. Bring him in cold. I want him dead as soon as possible". He paused, considering something.

"And if the ISB tries to get in on the operation, let them. So long as you ensure that one of our own makes the killing shot."

With that finished, Hiral turned to other concerns. Mainly, getting back into the good graces of the Grand Moff.

While executing the one behind the assassination attempt helped, it only lessened the blow. The security had still let assassins slip through, a failure attributed to Hiral.

However, Hiral feared that this incident might stain his ties to the Grand Moff for a long time. So it was best to focus his efforts elsewhere.

Specifically, Coreward. Some of the sectors of the Bright Jewel Oversector were situated in the Mid-Rim.

Richer sectors, which meant richer contacts and potential allies. If Hiral couldn't upgrade into the position of Grand Moff of Oversector Outer, which was unlikely given the incident and how difficult it was to get such a position regardless, he might be able to side-grade.

After all, a Governor-General in the Outer Rim was a Grand Moff elsewhere. It was just that Kaine had an unusually sized territory and so Governor-General was made to replace the Grand Moffs that preceded him.

If Hiral could make the right connections, he could find himself in control of a better Oversector. Hell, he might settle for being Moff of a very rich core sector if he could get it.

And that meant that his attention needed to be more focused on the Mid-Rim sectors under his control.

As for the Outer-Rim sectors? They were of no real worth, aside from Myto. Its production capabilities gave him great leverage, and would be needed to gain more influence Coreward.

After the raid on the Arkia system, the information "discovered" there naturally led to the arrests of the other slaver Governors, and many of their closest friends, families, and stooges.

Honestly, it was a mess, made messier by the fact that I refused to simply have the all executed. Sure, it would be cleaner, but death isn't the scariest thing to people like this, and I wanted to deter others from following in their footsteps.

So instead, they got life in prison. Which admittedly isn't the worst fate of all, considering that at least on Minda, prisons are much nicer than most of the empire. Of course, that didn't change the fact that they were there for life and that many there were not going to take kindly to their presence.

I expected at least a few to get shanked to death.

Regardless, it left over a dozen systems without Governors. Perfect.

"This system lacks all that much vital infrastructure. Candidate 3-B would be best considering their background" Darna stated, musing over the list before her.

"They also come from a planet with suspected Rebel ties. They pose a potential security risk. 3-A would be better, their loyalty is far more secure." Replied Thorne, tapping a different name on the list.

"And they have none of the experience needed! A bank is not a solar system, nor does the experience from one translate to the other. Not to mention, 3-A has ties to many of the richer worlds in the sector. Such connections invite corruption."

I forced myself not to sigh in exasperation, my fingers itching to massage my temple.

When I'd made them work together, I knew their personalities would clash. While both were competent at what they did, Darna was a headstrong passionate overachiever, while Thorne was a cautious paranoid Imperial zealot.

Again, both are great at what they do. But their arguments were something I predicted miles away. I figured it would be good for them, if nothing else. Something to temper one another, help them grow as people.

"The best choice here would be factories. More lines of production means the sector can produce more TIE's and ships. The local environment comes second to the security of the sector." Thorne debated, pitch black eyes somehow easily conveying annoyance at the situation.

"And ruin the planet for all who live on it? People will live and die on this world, they should be able to see clear skies when they do! Not to mention, there's always more factories, why not focus on more agriculture? Food exports are amongst the most stable out there, and gaining self-sufficiency in that region would be a natural boon for the sector" replied Darna, the holo before her moving to her commands and displaying sector export charts.

It wasn't as though they were always fighting. If that was the case, I'd never stick them together. As it stands, their disagreements tend to lead to more balanced conclusions. Of course, that usually takes a while longer, and this meeting was only scheduled to be 3 hours long, not 8. So, I decided to intervene and speed along the process.

"We can simply do both, you know? The world may not have much industry but it's about to have a great deal of people with no jobs. People who won't want to work in the factories anymore. Farms would be better in that regard. Meanwhile, with the richer systems sending over their lower class citizens, new factories can be built for them to work in. All you need to do is ensure that the factories are using purification tech to keep the air clean. We have the money for that, I can give the new Governor a grant for it after all."

As the two muttered to themselves, checking the numbers, I brought up the candidate list once more. Candidates 3-A and 3-C both were solid choices for different reasons, but neither fit perfectly. That was fine, perfection is a lie anyways, but there was a better choice.

"As for the new Governor, I think 3-F might be the best choice. They aren't all that experienced nor do they have particularly overt signs of loyalty. However, their file has notes that they've made a habit of donating to orphanages in the area. This indicates a level of empathy I think will be sorely needed, given the number of people being freed from slavery in the system. As for experience, that'll come with time. So long as we get them a decent advisor and access to educational resources they should be able to handle the slower beginning stages."

Of course, that wasn't the end of the discussion, merely me sort of shoving the conversation along to the next stage that they would've reached regardless. It still took another 20 minutes of discussing the particulars before we were all satisfied.

This meeting had been scheduled within only hours of the arrests of the slaver Governors. I wanted them replaced ASAP, to ensure the power vacuum wasn't taken advantage of by any other factions.

Of course, I was also taking this opportunity to essentially purge each system of its current bureaucracy. It was crude, I admit. It was also likely that people who'd never done anything wrong were going to lose their jobs.

I had little choice. The Auditor program wasn't even halfway through training the first batch, and for all that HAVEN was a widespread organization, it wasn't omniscient. So, I'd have to resort to more widespread purges instead of the more methodical ones I'd done beforehand.

If I'd had more time, perhaps it could've gone better. But the discovery of that holo-call between Trice and Surrde was too good an opportunity to pass up. Now, I had to deal with the fallout.

But, if there was one thing I was doing more methodically, it was the freeing of slaves. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't just let them all go. It would attract the wrong kind of attention.

After all, slavery is only permitted for non-sentient aliens, and prisoners. And these worlds all had prison-slaves.

That meant that if I let them all go, it might well be seen as letting prisoners go. So, I had teams going over the records of each and every one of the slaves. Seeing if the charges that got them there were legal at all.

The problem was that there were a lot of slaves. 9.6 million to be exact. Of course, not all of them were prisoners. Many were simply bought from the Hutts or other slavers, meaning they would be quicker to process.

But as it stood, it would be the work of months if not years to process all of them. A complete mess, and the reason I needed empathetic Governors in charge. I needed people who wouldn't simply see it as another chore or job, but as a duty they had to the people. I needed those who looked at the datasheets and knew that each number was a person.

Only then would I be sure they would do their duty properly.

A few hours later, the meeting ended. It was one of my longer ones, but one that worked out pretty well, a great deal being done.

Not just the Governors, but with the eradication of criminal elements in the sector as well. The deal with Governor Murr was going well, the information he's been sending HAVEN has allowed them to secretly sabotage criminal actions sector wide.

Some smugglers found a new route? Would you look at that, an Imperial patrol found it too. A new pirate base cropped up? Wow, some mercs saw it and decided someone would pay for its destruction!

Not every single pirate or smuggler went through this. Just the worst of it. If it was all of it, word would get around that Murr might be the common denominator, and we'd lose a major underworld connection.

Still, it lets us get some control over things. Just because Surrde was on his way out, and Trice and co were done for, didn't mean the pirate surge was simply over and done with. Not to mention, the stats indicated that piracy had increased not just sector wide, but galaxy wide over the past few years.

Brazen attacks like the one I experienced early on into my career were becoming more common. The syndicates were getting more brazen as time went on.

And if I'm being honest, I think it's because they can tell. They can tell the Empire isn't long for this galaxy. The Death Star was, bar none, the ultimate weapon. Something none could ever hope to contend with.

And it was destroyed by a measly force of Rebels. The facade of the Empire's control was cracking, bit by bit, and the criminal elements of the galaxy saw this. Weakness to them is like blood to sharks.

Which meant I had to showcase that the Myto sector wasn't weak. Which meant a heavier armament program. Which would bring upon me attention from the higher ups I didn't want. Of course, I had a good reason for more warships, but that wouldn't matter to the paranoid, power seeking wackjobs that made up the Empire.

This time, in the silence of my office, I sighed. Mugwuffin, napping on her cat tree, opened a single eye.

WorryStress

"I'm fine, just…tired, I guess."

Getting up, her lithe form pounced from the tree to my chair, settingly around my neck like a scaly scarf. Despite easily being the size of a golden retriever, or other similarly sized dog, she was incredibly light.

Rest

I looked at the clock on my terminal. It had been at least 6 hours since the meeting ended. My work day was nearly finished.

"In a bit. Got a few more things to do." I said, scratching her neck.

Those few things were, thankfully, simple.

Confirmation for the order of new holonet relays and hyperspace beacons, which meant that communication would be easier sector wide, and the hyperlanes would be updated more consistently. It wasn't cheap, to the tune of 500 million credits for the thousands needed to populate the entire sector, but it was worth it.

The second thing was a quote for the dozen or so space stations I wanted. They were part of a plan I'd been concocting in my head to help administrate the sector. The quote itself wasn't horrible, but I simply wasn't in the position to enact the plan, so I put it to the side for now. In a few months when things were more stable, I'd go back to it.

And finally, I went over two reports, one from Ife and one from Zulitra, the Sector General.

Ife was no longer in the hospital, having recovered, though she was still barred from physical exercise. Ife, instead of taking this time to rest and enjoy life, decided to get back to work.

The reports were both on the progress the two had made in scouring their respective organizations, the local Sector Army and Navy for corruption. It was a longer process than my administrative purges, mostly because that was focused on a smaller group of higher level administrators.

This was covering a great deal more people, and current estimations put a full scan at nearly a year out from completion. Once the Auditor Program is ready, that might well drop, but it'll still be a while.

It was odd, I suppose to now be looking at things in a much longer viewpoint. When I was Governor, things were always happening. Every week, a new challenge, new laws, new industries and developments. Minda had grown at an incredible rate, and I'd done all I could to keep up with it.

And now I was looking at an entire sector and realizing that things at this scale move slowly. It left me almost anxious, just waiting for the shoe to drop, for something to happen.

Rest

"Yeah, alright. I guess it's time, huh?" I said, shutting off my terminal. If there was one perk of the job, it was shorter workdays.

Still, despite the workload and stress, things seemed to be getting better. If I could hold out long enough, maybe I could really escape. Make my own life.

That night, I slept more soundly than I had in a long time.

I dreamt of the stars.

Yo. Sorry for not having uploaded in a little while. I had a burst of inspiration and made a whole lot once the Winter semester ended, then a few days later Spring started up.

But more than that, I got addicted to StarSector. Holy shit its such a good game, beat it in a single 10 hour session, then modded the shit out of it. There are so many anime girls, it's ridiculous and I love it,10/10 I love getting the snot beaten out of me by [REDACTED] cause I didn't see the warning beacon.

Other than that, life's been not great in general, drowning in shallow water type of mental fuckery so while this story will keep going, I can make no promises in regards to the frequency or quality of chapters.

Which, tbh, that's not exactly new so I guess things are the same as always? Eh, I'll figure it out.

Keep on slaying, brochachos

Welcome to the club, buddy.
If you want to see something.... Peculiar, do try 'real combat' mod.

hey hey people. i refuse to believe you beat it in ONLY 10 hours, some of the THREATS are the sort of thing pulping my ass even with a dozen mods and a couple years on my side.

using secrets of the frontier? if not, i highly recommend it. has some great story content that really adds to the world despite the relative shortness.

Sounds like Las is gonna end up with a promotion down the line.

I guess we might be heading into Empire at War with a 3 way war on the horizon.

Which meant a heavier armament program
Yay! More R&D!

As for the Outer-Rim sectors? They were of no real worth, aside from Myto. Its production capabilities gave him great leverage, and would be needed to gain more influence Coreward.

This is not true at all, though. Myto is still small potatoes compared to the other Outer Rim holdings in the Bright Jewel Oversector. Entralla is an extremely wealthy and industrialized trade world. Prefsbelt is the home of the main Imperial Naval Academy. Muunilinst and Mygeeto are two of the richest planets in the galaxy, being key holdings of the Intergalactic Banking Clan. Jaemus has a massive KDY subsidiary shipyard. Yaga Minor's yards are even bigger than that, capable of producing Star Dreadnoughts. Ord Trasi is a third major shipyard whose output dwarfs Minda. Even Kaine's humble homeworld, Sartinaynian (the planet that would eventually be renamed "Bastion" by the Imperial Remnant) is a prominent industrial and trade center that puts Minda to shame.

Now, with the information provided from the raid conducted on a Governor in the Myto Sector, Hiral had all he needed to take down Surrde. He'd never suspected the man, always saw him as a hardliner with more bark than bite.

Apparently, he knew how to bite.
Chances are Surrde might have gotten away with it if this was a standard Imperial investigation.

Not impossible for a Sector fleet to take out, but a massive problem for something smaller like a system defense fleet.
If Hiral could make the right connections, he could find himself in control of a better Oversector. Hell, he might settle for being Moff of a very rich core sector if he could get it.
That sounds like a good idea at the time. However once Endor happens those "cushy postings" are going to hit Warlord-o-clock and become a battle zone. I don't think Hiral has it in him to become a Warlord. Too much of a bootlicker.
As for the Outer-Rim sectors? They were of no real worth, aside from Myto. Its production capabilities gave him great leverage, and would be needed to gain more influence Coreward.
If Hiral leaves the Oversector then all the leverage defaults to Las.

These people are both high ranking Imperials, so the same class of folks that imprisoned and enslaved most of the convicts, and unseated slavers, which don't tend to last long historically. Yeah these folks are doomed.
Regardless, it left over a dozen systems without Governors. Perfect.
Time to spread the influence of your faction Las. These new Governors are going to be very keen to follow your lead given you just arrested their predecessors and most of their administration.
Even this late in the game these two are struggling to come to terms with having the political will and Credits to do things like this. The Myto Sector is going to be one of the most self sustained sectors in the Outer Rim.
Also a competent and non-corrupt bureaucrats. That is a shock for most planets in the Star Wars galaxy given the Republic, followed by the Empire.
The problem was that there were a lot of slaves. 9.6 million to be exact. Of course, not all of them were prisoners. Many were simply bought from the Hutts or other slavers, meaning they would be quicker to process.
Helllloooo population. It might be a slog, but it is going to be worth it for more than the moral victory. Getting even a percentage out of bondage is going to do wonders for productivity numbers. Especially if they are willing to move off world to newly settled colonies.

Also HAVEN is looking at an increase to their membership. Newly freed slaves are going to be prime recruiting material. Especially if they are officially released, so don't have to worry about slavers coming back for them.

If things work out, the Guild can be made to take the credit for stamping out the criminal elements. Maybe it will help in encouraging smugglers and other criminals to turn over a new leaf.
Empire: "What's ya got there Las?"

Las holding an expanded navy, army, and completely self sufficient logistics network: "A cocoa".
That's going to do wonders for coordinating all the refugee fleets that start showing up when the Galaxy goes down the toilet.

My favourite parts of the game are the lore and the writing, especially in the Hauler segments and the text involving the Old Man of the Domain. That stuff genuinely gives me the chills.

The lore is also awesome, when you put together all the little tidbits and you realize how utterly incomprehensibly advanced the Old Domain must have been. For example, the Mjolnir Cannon has micro-singularity warheads. It shoots bullets, that have a black hole inside them. The Heavy Mauler's shell has an antimatter coated tip. The Plasma Cannon fires « micro-universe anomalies ». Temporal shell desyncs your ship's timeflow from the rest of existence. Cryoarithmetic Engine straight-up violates thermodynamics.

The [THREAT] is also utterly horrifying. It is unintelligent, yet it has literal Culture-level weapons. Voidblaster fires rifts in space-time, Neutron torpedo has a neutronium warhead and the Voltaic Cannon is literally a monopole quasiparticle wrapped in a self-stabilizing plasma shell.

The [SHROUD] is similarly scary, with something something « near-c charged matter-antimatter pseudoparticles annihilating in-situ in a... controlled, or perhaps semi-stable vortex ».

Then, Omega has the weapons which descriptions straight up just quote in-universe bible quotes.

The Luddic Church is very interesting because it shows how distorted the knowledge of old Earth has become. They genuinely believe that dragons flew in old Earth's skies, for instance.

The Gate-Hauler is breathtakingly beautiful. If you ignore the dev's statements that all the art, spritework and more aren't canon sizes (they, very smartly, did their best to remove all hard numbers from the lore. Last time they tried, iirc, they made an Omega weapon a solar system-buster by accident lmao), the Gate-Hauler could be the size of a planet. IMO, it's roughly planetoid sized, at least in my head-canon.

(Have you tried SoTF? It's very good. Arma Armatura, UAF and more are all cool too. If you're willing to suffer the Racism(tm) discord server, you can find some hilarious shitpost mods like Nanoelite's mod (which adds funny shitboxes and abominations to Ludd) and the classic Crabshack (you get to throw Jangala into the sun. Yes, it works. Yes, it breaks your save) If you're running Secrets of the Frontier, I would also recommend running Second In Command, since it has cross-mod content)

What's your record orphans created in a run? By grinding maxxed-out Invictus doomstacks from the Luddic Church, I managed to reach ~200K-300K orphans created in a single character. IIRC the stats are added by Nexelerin.

Reminder that some mad lads modded in some star wars ships to starsector, if you're into that.

Also, wait till you discover and fight the [SUPER REDACTED], the THREAT, and the Dwellers. Those guys are in the base game and even tougher.

I feel like we are close to the second death star
Wakes up the next morning to get the message the emperor is dead
We have about two more years to go for the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. Plenty of time ime for Las to be promoted to Governor-General and ramp up the economy of the sector and let R&D go wild.

I know Palpatines hole trip isn't due for another 3 years but I do hope Las does end up getting dragged into bit of the major events like either endor, operation cinder or the surrender at jakku if we follow that part of Disney canon for post palpatine galaxy. weather he's there to be among one of the star destroyers at endor or as one of the imperial officers who end up negotiating for peace at jakku. or has to hold off the imperial remnant from glassing his sector from operation cinder.

Like I can see some of those above him strong arm him to join them to see "the end of the rebellion" on endor because of he's one of few they might trust and want to show palpatine that they have people under them that are helping the empire. hoping it might make them look good if they can spot useful citizens for the empire and have the working under them.

With jakku it might one of those things where the remnant of the empire might either see him not joining them as either cowardice or signs that he might defect and threaten to go full operation cinder if he doesn't join. hell i can see him try to negotiate that his sector can still help produce weapons and ships for them to try and stall them from glassing the planet.

though i could see depending on how much palpatine notice Las' sector and decides that Las' little sector is something he want repeated for his return, he might be among those who palpatine might bring to his whole empire 2.0 the palpatining.

If you loved starsector then you can try X4. The interface is hot shit, but its one of the best space sandbox games.

By that point if las doesn't sign up with rebellion and stays as an independent Imperial remnant the new Republic is going to shit the bed and die, both cannons have them become the same bloated corrupted mess that was there before the empire so if las survives as an independent power most of the outer rim planet are probably going to begin going to join up with him instead or jump ship from the Republic when they realise their right back to pre clone wars quality senate again.

so if las becomes grand moff does mugwuffin become a moff? or governor?
are they even on the payroll ,for all the bodyguard work they do.
or is 10tons of bbq a day the payroll? lol
be funny to see them go on a *gasp* diet or get a fitness trainer lol

Thanks for the fic, life is not great most of the time but we live for bits we enjoy.
