Star Trek The Next Generation The Gift: A Star Trek SI

Nice chapter and I'm glad you kept the Dr. Who part, even if it doesnt become a full fledged story (though an earlier Doctor would have been preferred, especially one of the 'old'/pre-2005 Doctors. I can see most SI getting along with 3-6 and 8).
It is interesting that his Whoverse version is also a time lord. I wonder whether that had more of an effect on the Doctor than learning that he's a SI.

There's something that happens when he's with the 10th Doctor that he gains a sliver of "Time Lord Knowledge"----not full on like Donna did...but like .05 percent or less heh.

One day perhaps I'll post that story.

Chapter 98: Adam Into the Multiverse The Conclusion New
Paramount-SkyDance Own Star Trek. For Entertainment Purposes Only. Non-Profit.

Geordi....LaForge's visor was the cause of Worf's jumps in the episode. Somehow causing the jumps to...intensified by close proximity to the visor. But this hasn't been the case for me here. I'm jumping in spite of that...it has to do with the tachyons, I just don't know how or what. I know that there IS a quantum fissure. It needs to be closed, and it has to do with the tachyons...I'm also so very tired.

I thought it was my Enterprise-D...but it isn't. The headaches are at their strongest. I've a theory that they're biological warning sign of some kind, that I am not supposed to be doing this or experiencing this. Riker is standing in his customary spot, and Data is sitting at ops.

"Data, can you extend a warp field in the region where the tachyon cloud is?" I ask as I hover over his chair

"I believe I understand your line of thinking, Captain. Stand by." I watch as his fingers race across his console. Almost dancing. He taps one more button and I order him to activate the viewer. On the screen we see a silverish tear across the fabric of space. It begins to expand and suddenly...all the other realities begin to enter into ours.

"Data, what is happening?" Riker asks

"As the Captain has no doubt hypothesized, expanding a warp field around the tachyons has exposed the quantum fissure...making it visible to us, as well as allowing the other realities to enter into ours."

"Data, are the tachyons causing my jumps?" I ask

"It is highly likely sir. It is reasonable to assume that due to the high concentration of them in a multitude of realities...has caused the quantum fissure to be anchored to you. How or why? I do not know."

Q? No. He would gloat over this or appear to congratulate me over figuring this out. Aegis? I doubt it. Not their style. I don't know who or what is responsible for this still. We watch as hundreds of thousands of starship, space station, and just weird looking vehicles of all kinds begin popping into existence. It surreal to watch this live. I think I spot Red Dwarf....and is that Serenity???

"How many Data?" I ask

"There are over 250, 000 different variant ships in the sector now, and counting."

I think I spot the JLA Watchtower. What???? I exhale.

"Mr. Worf...open hailing frequencies please." I order

"Aye sir."

I pause before I make my address. I can't believe this is happening still.

"This is Captain...heh...this is Captain Adam Christopher Young of the Federation Starship Enterprise...that is, the Enterprise indigenous to this quantum reality. We've all encountered a quantum anomaly, where versions of me...seem to be jumping through various realities. We think we have found a way to return us all to our proper realities, but we need to find that ship which exhibits a certain quantum signature. Our Mr. Data will transmit that signature to you now." I place my hand on his shoulder

We transmit the signal and wait. It takes a few minutes as all the mass of ships figure out the signal. This takes longer since this is not a television show any more. I wait and then with relief I see my Captain Jean-Luc Picard as my head continues to pound.

"Captain, it would seem we have matched the quantum signature you have sent us." Jean-Luc says and I nod

"Our Data agrees." as I exchange a look with him

"I assume Ensign---excuse me, Captain Young you have the ability to match this and do what you need to return home?" Picard asks

"Yes sir---Captain. Data believes if the Captain pilots a shuttle with his home signature dialed in...he should be able to return back to point of origin." Riker replies

"Very good. Make it so. We'll be waiting for you Captain Young."

"Aye sir." I say out of habit and he smiles

"One last thing Captain Picard."

"Yes?"

"I would like to request the Shuttle Curie from your reality. We will have Data send over what needs to be programmed to your Data and Mr. LaForge, and the modifications need to be made from your side."

"Understood. Picard out."

The screen reverts back to the multitude of Enterprises as I turn to Will with affection and gratitude. One last thing to do.

"Computer confirm security authorization Young Alpha9898 Charlie."

"Authorization confirmed. Proceed."

"This is Captain Adam Christopher Young, I hearby promote Commander William T. Riker to Captain, with all the rights and privilege's thereof."

"Promotion confirmed."

"Computer transfer all command codes to Captain William T. Riker, authorization Young Alpha9898Charlie."

"Transfer complete. USS Enterprise NCC 1701-Delta is now under the command of Captain William T. Riker, effective this stardate."

I don't shake Will's hand, I go up and hug him.

"Congratulations Number One...however I suspect that your version of me will return when I go through the fissure...but I felt like this was right, just in case."

"Thank you sir...Adam."

"You deserve it Will, and thank you for everything. You are the finest first officer in the fleet...and an even better friend. Your pizza needs more oregano though, and more olive oil drizzle."

Will laughs.

Data reports that they've sent the correct shuttle and made the modifications to it. I sigh. It's finally time to go home. I nod and head to the turbolift and feel Deanna follow me as I knew she would.

"Shuttlebay One." I order and turn to her

"I don't have all of his memories, but if he's anything like me, I know that he loves you dearly, and always will."

"I know..." she says as she strokes my cheek

"I'm sorry, I wish we had more time...I..."

"It's okay Adam. You have become swept up in something bigger than us.."

I grab her hands and hold them tightly in mine.

"No. Nothing is more important or bigger than us. Nothing will ever be." we kiss

"I wish I could guarantee that he will be back..."

"I have faith, in you." she replies and I start to cry

Hand in hand we step out of the turbolift and head to the shuttlebay together. Geordi is there making final adjustments to the shuttle.

"Everything checks out sir. Good luck."

"Thank you Mr. LaForge."

I squeeze Deanna's hand one more time and let it go.

"Good Journey Imzadi." she says through tears

"He'll be back. I promise you." I reply fighting through mine

I head into the shuttle and like a seasoned pro begin inputting coordinates and making sure Data's programming is there, and it is of course. I hear the shuttle door close and the shields lower as I'm given the all clear to launch.

"Shuttle Curie, to Enterprise, requesting permission to depart."

"Request granted Curie. Good luck sir."

At first things are smooth and then I am rocked by a couple of phaser shots...that would be the Borgified universe's Riker trying to take me out. HELP USSSSSSSSSS!!! I'm so sorry Will...but you're not keeping me from getting back home.

"Computer evasive maneuvers, don't deter from the fissure. Take us straight in." I make adjustments so that Prime Me doesn't have control over the shuttle as I'm not there in my development yet.

I hear more phaser fire exchanged then a huge explosion---that would be that Enterprise being blown up. I'm sorry...I suddenly feel blurrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy as my variants are beginning to reassemble as the timelines are repaired. My head sees a variety of flashes all of them confusing, exciting, and emotional....and then...

"Enterprise to Curie."

"This is Curie go ahead."

"Welcome home, Ensign."

"Thank you sir...it's good to be back. You have control Enterprise."

I dock in the shuttle bay and see Deanna there waiting for me. She knows that I have been through an ordeal but not the extent of it. I head to her and hug her. I start crying.

"Welcome home Adam."

The Next chapter is actually "Pegasus"---and some folks might have an issue with how SI Adam handles this. I will clarify that I wanted to DO something different with Pressman and the Cloak---obviously getting our hands on it before this episode would've been ideal. But alas that's not the case here.

Chapter 99: Pegasus Part I New
Paramount-SkyDance Own Star Trek. For Entertainment Purposes Only. Non-Profit.

A few days have passed since experiencing the...paradox incident for lack of a better description. My memory of what happened has faded. Almost as soon as I returned to the ship. I have images that flicker but that's it. Life goes on as and is about to get a whole lot more exciting as Admiral Erik Pressman comes aboard the Enterprise and I notice that Will is immediately uncomfortable about it. Pressman has his briefing about the Pegasus and what happened and I start to stir in my chair. Deanna immediately notices my emotional change and questions it with a look but I shrug her off. Pressman is irritated by my presence already and I'm there as a courtesy even though I am a legitimate member of the crew. I think he knows that I know the truth about what happened, and why he's here.

"Do you have something on your mind, Ensign Young?" he finally snaps at me midway through his briefing

"Actually Admiral, I was wondering if you had something on your mind sir." I retort back and the tension is rising

Will looks like a ghost in his chair, his face has drained of color and he slumps in his chair. Picard with growing concern and irritation looks from his first officer, to me, to the Admiral and is fed up with what is going unsaid between us.

"Admiral, if you have something else to share with us...please do, else continue on with the briefing."

"Admiral, if you don't tell them the truth---I will." I glare. This is why I have so many enemies at the Admiralty.

Admiral Pressman decides to double down.

"Ensign Young is out of line, Captain. I would like him removed from the briefing immediately. Mr. Worf." the Admiral says looking at Worf who looks at me, then the Captain. I sit perfectly still. Nothing will happen to me.

"I don't believe the Ensign is out of line, Admiral. If the Ensign believes, you are holding something back critical from us, that we need to know...I suggest that you divulge whatever it is you have been holding back." Picard says with an edge in his voice now

"Captain..." Will pipes up

"Not now Will." Pressman replies

"You have one last chance, sir." I say through gritted teeth

"I can't do this any more Admiral. I should have spoken up about this sooner...stand down Ensign. You don't need to expose the Admiral...I will." Will says standing up

"That is enough Commander!" Pressman snaps

"Yes sir it is."

Then Will tells us the story of what happened on the Pegasus and I see the disappointment on Captain Picard's face.

"Mr. Worf take Admiral Pressman into custody. The charge is violation of the Treaty of Algergon." Picard says deadpan

Worf moves to arrest Pressman and he protests.

"Wait! We still need to recover the cloak before the Romulans do! Tell Them Young!"

"Get him out of my sight." Picard says and I nearly do the Grinch's scowling face smile

After Pressman leaves, Commander Riker informs us of what we have to do and looks to me for confirmation. I actually don't fully remember this episode other than the bullshit with Pressman...so this should be interesting.

"I don't have a full memory on this episode, but unless I'm mistaken...there's a Romulan ship that has been tagging us or will be once we cross into the neutral zone and reach the asteroid. They are just investigating the violation of the neutral zone, they don't know about the Pegasus or the cloaking device. I have only one suggestion to how to obtain the cloak, and neither of you are going to like it, but it's the safest option given what is attempted in the episode, which was just goofy and stupid."

I tell them and as anticipated they're both not happy with it. Picard tugs on his uniform and looks at me.

"Are you sure this is the only way we can obtain the cloak back?"

"I mean...we could just give it back to them and call it a day. Apologize for what happened in the first place, they're going to be pissed either way, so this is all about minimizing the damage and avoiding a war."

I'd have preferred to actually get the stupid cloaking device...however this is like walking on coals, and the Romulans aren't exactly our best buds right now. I'm wondering if Starfleet sent Pressman due to the Defiant's issues now??? The ship should be running perfectly as per my alteration instructions.

"Number One?" Picard asks...Will has been quiet through all of this

"I think we should attempt what Mr. Young suggests. Pressman's plan was far too dangerous and unapproved." he reveals and Picard frowns

"When this is over, you and I are going to have a chat, Will."

"I understand sir."

"I will inform Starfleet of what has happened and get them to approve...Mr. Young's plan. I doubt they will like it. Saving face to the Romulans is not something that they will want to do right now...but it might be the only chance at avoiding a full scale war. Dismissed."

Admitting to the Romulans that we created a cloaking device and installed it on a ship...near the neutral zone border...is not ideal, but any other alternative like what happens in the episode, and again I don't remember everything that happened, so attempting that is dangerous...I just remember it was stupid what they did. This will have fall out...but war is the alternative if we try and sneak that cloak out of there...and we can't afford that right now.

I find Commander Riker in the holodeck as he was in THAT other episode. He's dressed as Chef of course still.

"This of course was Captain Archer's Enterprise." I say as I watch Trip and T'Pol have a conversation

"Your familiar with them?" Riker asks

"Oh yes. It was a spin off..." I smile and Riker chuckles

"I am sorry I didn't do the right thing when I should have. I was hoping..."

"The Admiral was never going to tell the truth, Will. Far be it from me to lecture you on what every officer's First Duty is..."

"I've disappointed the Captain." he stops short from including me as well

"Yes, he'll get over it eventually. "

"Why didn't you expose this earlier? You could have you know?" he asks

"I suppose I was waiting for you to do the right thing...but we all make mistakes sir. We're all human."

"What will happen to him now?" he asks

"I expect he will be taken into custody by Starfleet security and put on trial for his actions. You will probably be called upon to testify as the only remaining witness, perhaps I will as well, then he'll be stripped of his rank, and tossed in the stockade for the rest of his life to think on his actions." I say in a growl---I've possibly allowed my bias against Pressman to get the better of me on this one. Pressman could have been turned into an ally...

Will nods.

"May I ask a question sir?"

"Sure."

"What I don't understand...and I realize this was a top secret affair...why didn't Starfleet just ask the Klingons? Why was there such an emphasis on the Romulan cloak? What's the difference?"

Will smiles

"The Romulan Cloak is a smoother, cleaner if you will, alternative, compared to the Klingon's version. This is one of the reasons why they had their brief treaty in the 2260's...they knew the Romulans cloak was superior to theirs and wanted to reverse engineer it. The problem we have had over the decades in attempting to build one, is the enormous power source required. The Romulans use a tiny singularity to power theirs, like they do as their propulsion device. We finally made a break through with the interphasing cloak. The cloak failed though, and well...you know the rest."

I nod...and we watch the events of "These Are The Voyages..." a little while longer before we're recalled back to the bridge.

Personally, I've never thought the Treaty of Algeron makes an iota of sense, at least as described on-screen. Letting the Klingons and Romulans have free reign with cloaking technology while the Federation goes without? The Klingons might have been semi-friendly after the Khitomer Accords, but the Romulans clearly were not, and letting them keep cloaking tech while barring the Federation from any attempt to develop it critically undercut Starfleet's ability to manage and counteract hostile actions by a blatantly expansionist neighbouring power with a well-established track-record for infiltration, subversion, spy-games, false-flag operations, and sundry other forms of skullduggery. It was a manifestly bad deal that flew in the face of the Federation's self-interest, and I have no idea how it even got proposed in the first place, much less approved!
(Yes, I know there's mention of a 'Tomed incident' that cost thousands of lives, but considering that a Romulan monopoly in cloaking tech could have led to millions of deaths if they'd decided to launch another war against the UFP, to my mind a simple throwaway reference is not enough to justify signing a treaty that lopsided.)
