Would things like game mods be okay in the off topic forums?

Ever since the massive purge of Minecraft content on LoversLab, I've been trying to find somewhere else online that would allow this type of content to be posted. I know this place isn't specifically for that, but it seems like it was made for judgement free creative writing and art sharing, so it's in that ballpark at least and to be honest there really aren't many options. Reading through the rules I don't see anything about content guidelines, and the staff here seems really nice. I don't wanna do anything that would make anyone here upset though or encroach on your community, so if this is too far away from the purpose of the forum I won't take it personally. I'm sure we can find somewhere to go.

It troubles me that you didn't think to mention why it got purged from LL - that being due to DMCA Strikes by Microsoft.
As such, I'm pretty leery about allowing such on the forum.


So, I'll hash it out - we can host generic discussion - that is, threads discussing mods for specific games, what people like the most, etc.
What we will not allow, due to concerns over the safety of the forum in the face of a proven litigious corporation, is dedicated threads for individual mod packs, or any first- or second-party links to download such.

That is to say, you can mention the modpack name, you can mention any forum it got moved to, but you may not link to any download resources (especially not directly to sites like dropbox/mega)

It being an attack from Microsoft was the initial community assumption, but more information has come out and that doesn't actually seem to be the case. To quote another commenter: "AFAIK the creator of the website got a knock on the door from the german government for not making the site have an 18+ warning which is why it got taken down." Take this with a grain of salt, but it would track. From what I've seen, Mojang / Microsoft themselves rarely step in with these matters. It's usually third parties that overstep and exploit report features and legal loopholes to get content removed. The only times that I can recall where Mojang themselves stepped in and took down a mod were with ⁠Pretty Flesh, which is a deeply upsetting mod about gore and murder and rape and body horror so yeah honestly fair, and Pixelmon, which I'm pretty sure was actually sparked by Nintendo and Mojang just went along with it. Generally, Minecraft mods aren't something that Mojang or Microsoft goes after unless they have very strong legal reasons to do so. The LoversLab takedown seems to have had nothing to do with them.

Either way, QQ doesn't host files, so it's not gonna really be able to function as a replacement.

Ruling is still going to stand, both out of an abundance of caution, and because having a subsection dedicated to specific mods is generally not what QuestionableQuesting is for.

To clarify slightly on that 'not what QQ is for' bit: Questionable Questing is a writing forum. Writing and 'questing,' which is basically an interactive form of writing with other people on the forum. While we don't mind casual discussion of other things so long as they don't cause problems, a generic 18+ board for all kinds of NSFW and NSFW-adjacent business is just not what we are. Nor are we a hosting site for downloads, or for repositories of links to the same.
