You defending an act of pure spite with no logic behind it certainly is a choice.

Yeah, about that.
And I do want to say that I really like how you all went to find links for the new person. That was nice of you.

I've been reading this fic for years barley seen any fanart. Great job; please do more!
Uh hi? Newbie fan art poster here? Don't really know if it's cool to just drop it like this... hopefully someone will tell me so I can take it down?
I'm slowly crawling my way through the story-only thread; I wonder if what part I was on then comes across? Sorry if the design is kinda basic; I'm terrible at remembering character descriptions
Thanks for the fic author, my mildly-ish competent art as tribute from this lurker

Thank you both very much, It'd been long enough I couldn't remember much of it but I remembered it being interesting reading.

The dock clerk checks over my identification card and then hands it back with a nod and a professional smile. "Welcome back to Babylon Five, Mister Underwood. I hope you have a pleasant stay."
"Thank you." I look at the heavily armed guards around the docking area. "Ah, what's with the guards?"
"Someone tried to assassinate the Vorlon ambassador a few days ago."
"Ah. Did they.. catch them?"
"Apparently. Some crazy minbari who thought they should have finished us off during the war. Tried to implicate Commander Sinclair." He shrugs. "I haven't heard about them looking for their accomplices, so I guess this is just about reassuring the public."
"Ah." I nod, and he face-shrugs back. "And it has the opposite effect-."
"And makes everyone's life harder, yeah. I don't know; the vorlons are supposed to be a big deal, but they don't travel, they don't trade with anyone and their ambassador has to wear an armoured suit the whole time because he can't survive our atmosphere. Seems to me like he'd be better off just going home."
I nod again. "Okay, thanks for letting me know." I pick up my small bag and continue in to the station proper. I've already reserved one of the small rooms in-.
They thought they could kill a Vorlon?
They managed to poison him though an airtight armoured suit. I can't work out how that could have worked. Depending on what they breathe, just destroying the seals might have been a better way to kill him. Are those sorts of suit usually water-permeable?
No. / Obviously not.
So is that odd, or am I just stuck in the wrong century?
A two-part application, an acid to breach the suit followed by a general purpose poison.
'General purpose'..?
Good records on vorlon physiology don't exist. No one that I know of has any poisons intended to poison them. Something heavy metal based, perhaps.
Is that how you'd do it?
I wouldn't. The vorlons are an elder race. Their technology outstrips anything that the younger races have. Picking a fight with them would be stupid. And a minbari? The minbari are the only younger race that have any contact with them at all.
Not everything's about species.
Ugh. I've really got to get to Earth some time. Unfortunately, none of my passengers are human, and none of them want to go there. Even with the expanded workforce, I've got months before my new ship is ready. And despite the fact that I can travel at faster than light speed with the ring, that only helps with getting onto planets. Sealed environments aren't designed to be compatible with that, and tend to track people better. While I could make a hole in the hull, come on board and then seal it up, that would leave station security somewhat puzzled as to how I got on board.
Okay, try a new restaurant, and then-.
You do not need to eat.
I don't have any physical need to eat. I don't know about your species, but with humans there's more to it than that.
Like what?
People noticing that I don't eat would be a problem. Financial transitions can be tracked. If my monthly expenditures don't include enough money for food, that could trigger an investigation from the tax authority and I don't have the connections to make that go away. Plus, the human brain is set up to expect the human body it's attached to to be fed every so often, and I'd start feeling wrong if I didn't.
The first is a good reason at least.
Okay, we're here. Just off the Zócalo…
Any human-digestive-system-friendly suggestions?
Most species can handle roopo balls.
The name isn't filling me with confidence, but alright. What do they do with the rest of the roopo?
...
It's a preparation technique, not an animal.
Oh, alright. That's less worrying. I-.
Huh.
Woman, sitting alone… Fine. Psi Corps badge on her collar means… That she's a telepath, as since as far as I know the only company employing a human telepath aboard Babylon 5 is XenoCorp, she's Lyta Alexander.
Psi Corps is… An interesting development in human society. The ability isn't artificial; human telepaths just… Started getting born at some point in the early 22nd century. Other humanoid species gained their own telepaths by an unexplained mechanism at various points in their history, but they all appear to use the same basic mechanism. Telekinesis exists, but is far rarer, and that's about it as far as 'space magic' goes. Psi Corps itself is a combined regulatory authority and trade union for telepaths, which seems like a bad idea. But… How else could it be run? Mental intrusion is basically impossible to detect without another telepath, and if the regulators have to keep track of everyone and the people who employ them… It makes a degree of sense.
She looks… Stressed.
Fidgeting. / Twitching. / Hunched posture.
She looks at me. No, stares at me.
Quieten down, if you please.
I walk over to her table and sit down opposite her. "Hard day?"
"How did you find me so fast?"
"You're just sitting there, Jean Grey. I've pretty much made this station my home. Do you want to..? Talk about it?"
She looks around, then closes her eyes for a moment… Probably doing something telepathic. I don't really care if she looks at my mind… I doubt that she could get anything useful out of it-
She opens her eyes, blinking rapidly and staring at me all the more.
-anyway.
She girds her loins and leans closer. "I scanned the vorlon ambassador, and now Psi Corps has called me back to Earth."
I nod slowly. "Okay. What for?"
"'Debriefing'. Which probably means a couple of P-Tens are going to go through every thought I've… Had…" She shudders. "To get intelligence."
"They're… Compelling you?"
"You don't say 'no' to the Corps."
"Alright. So. What do you want?" She looks at me like I'm being slow. "I'm not a mind reader."
She stares at me-.
**[An office building in the background, and a big red 'X' in the foreground.]**
"Okay, I can do that. Do you have a destination in mind?"
She straightens up, taking a deep breath. "Yes."

Nanotechnology son.
Well, I guess that confirms he doesn't have any Centauri in there since then he would know precognition is also a thing.
Not a question you want to ask people in Babylon 5.
Well, he's fucked, cause there's no avoiding Vorlon attention now given what she has hitching a ride in her head.

Yeah...Psi Corps is a thing that sounds good on paper...except that *now*, they've become their own thing. They do some seriously heinous shit and the EarthGov either looks to the side or just doesn't give a f.
Okay, and it seems he missed the "excitement" of the assassination attempt, so there is that.
...I don't think she got the reference. Though, not gonna lie, that's not exactly a good reference, either.
...well, she got *something* out of his head. The fact that it was terrifying her, but she still decided to risk telling him anything, and then asking to join up with him, says *things* about Psi Corps.

Ah, he was off-station for almost a week? Looks like he might have missed all the 'fun' of the pilot's events. But he'll have to deal with the fallout, no doubt.
Technically, yes.
Not great on what is supposed to be a neutral meeting ground for the galactic community.
'Survive the atmosphere', yes...
Evidently at least one of his passengers has opinions about the wisdom of that.
It'd be a pretty poor environment suit if it was.
Very logical.
Which begs the question of where the assassin got the idea for their method.
It would help if the passengers would define the terms more precisely, but the meaning can be guessed at.
While a brightly-glowing flying person would attract a lot of unwanted attention.
Need, no. Want to, yes.
I'm sure other species find comfort in eating. Certainly pleasure, if some are to go by.
All very reasonable arguments. Especially the human government angle. I don't know who authoritarian Earthgov is, but someone with Speaker Paul's power not under their thumb would not be acceptable.
The main drag of town, more or less. The best place for all species to mingle, hopefully without trouble.
I doubt they're like 'Rocky Mountain oysters'. Just the challenge of getting the materials out here...
Ah, so basically meatballs. Much better.
Interesting that he knows that name. Would it have been openly known among people in the know, that he might have heard it in discussion?
But does run the risk of a conspiracy subverting it from within. Supremacists, outside influences, anything.
Handy of the passengers to provide input.
Oooh, if telepaths can 'hear' them... He's gonna have to be careful.
Ah, she's worried he's someone else, is she?
Although any Paul's mind tends to quite telepathically receptive. Probably feels a little odd to her.
Yes, very odd indeed.
The metaphorical fine-tooth-comb inspection.
"The Corps is mother, the Corps is father." According to part of their pledge. Yes, totally not some sort of cult, is it?
Ah, she wants to not go back there.
Ah. Something Kosh passed on to her, or she picked up from him?
Somehow, I don't think helping her go AWOL is going to endear Speaker Paul to the Earth government, or at least PSI Corps. And could attract unwanted attention from anyone beholden to them. It'll be interesting to see where she wants to be taken, though, and who will be meeting them when they arrive...

They are one of two elder races still around as a whole. The two elder races were left behind to watch over the younger races, and disagree on how to do it. Both sides have planet destroying weapons, and the Vorlons are apparently able to screw with time in some manner. It's difficult to get into more without spoiling things.

Closer to Culture AI's and Xeelee.
They actually had a time war that almost broke the universe till another Elder race sacrificed themselves to make time travel mostly impossible outside of a few rifts like the one around Babylon 5.
The Minbari actually fought the Vorlons in their past.
It didn't end well for them, but some of that knowledge survived.
Kosh left a piece of himself in Leta after her encounter, thats what drives her to Vorlon space.

And I bet that that fact still burns the Oreni to this day.

The EA factbook has an entire dice roll chart of psychic powers for telepaths. Examples include psychic healing, ghost projection, psychic shields, and psychic luck.
As for telekinetics, P4 and above can also make use of pyrokinesis. Like Kes from Voyager.
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc-oKLytCjc

Some low P-Rating telepaths also train to forgo the usual telepathic abilities in-favor of self-directed biokinesis and martial arts. Dubbed the "Black Fists", they operate as a block ops unit for Psi-Corps. Their max-level skill is intangibility(though it can be blocked by shields like the high-level electromagnetic fields of an EM-Shield, psychic shields or a deck plate used to produce artificial gravity).
Big.
They've got planet killer warships, billion strong drone fleets hiding out in the depths of Jupiter sized gas giants, they can move planets through hyperspace and even detonate stars.

I should probably point out that while I've watched and rewatched the television series, I haven't read a lot of the supplementary material. If it wasn't on the screen, don't expect it to show up.

Keep telling yourself that, Mr. Security Guy. (Alas, this isn't Zack, he doesn't arrive until Season 2...)
The actual reason is because Vorlons' true form is perceived by all* of the younger races as their cultures' equivilant of a Literal Heavenly Angel.
While this is the result of deliberate meddling on the Vorlons' part, it is somewhat inconvenient for diplomacy, hence the suit.
* When Kosh has to ditch his suit to save Sheridan's life at the end of Season 2, it's a significant indicator of upcoming events that the one person who didn't see an "angel" and is perturbed as to what all the hubub is about is Londo...

Even leaving aside that the assassin probably knew the real reason for the suit, it's not about the assassination, it's about sending a message...
What GhostKing 666 said.
You have much to learn, young Paulhopper.
I'm not sure, alas, that Psi Corps even started out with good intentions; IIRC, telepaths were (and, to some degree, still are) treated like mutants in Marvel by the 'mundanes', just without the excuse of the sapient bacterial hivemind low-key mind controlling everyone. IIRC, "telepath ghettos" are still a thing, even. It evolved into-
- some sort of cult. With a heavy philosphy of telepath supremacy. And practicing extensive telepath eugenics.
Alas, Mr. Bester is not enough of an outlier to avoid being counted.
Again, much, much to learn, and you'll look back on these days as a more innocent time...

Every race does have their own version of Swedish meatballs, after all.
Could be either way-
-because, canonically, Lyta left the station between the events of the pilot and her return later in the series, replaced by Talia Winters as the station's Psi Corps rep in the interm (and therein lies a future can of worms...). I don't recall what the reason was 'Doyleistcally', but in-universe the reason she (and Dr. Kyle) left the station was because they saw Kosh outside of his encounter suit, and to keep the Vorlons happy (doubly so in her case, because she scanned Kosh to learn who attacked him, against the wishes of the Vorlons' government) they had to be removed...
...which means it may be the Vorlons who get "interested" in exactly what Paul is up to. As well as Psi Corps. He's going to be living in interesting times. Keep that ring charged.
IIRC, the only Actually Canon ancillary material is To Dream In The City Of Sorrows, so it probably won't be too much of an issue.

"than light"
I'm guessing these are Swedish meatballs.
I once read a theory that the reason every race seems to have their own version is because Sinclair spread it when he went to the past.
Ohh, imagine the possibilities this opens up.
If this Paul asks other people this question, then when Morden shows up, they may assume that Paul abd Morden are "associates".
I'd say Eldar level.
There are still elements of 20th century society around.
Garibaldi has a poster of Daffy Duck.
G'kar will think it's the god of frustration.
They're not the last, but they may be the most numerous.
There's also the Triad, the Torvalus, Mindriders, Walkers etc.

Maybe the Shadowsouled.
They're a group of Minbari that decided to follow the Shadows during their ancient war.
Hmm, either the souls in him give off the impression of a telepath, or she can sense the ring, so she thinks that he's a First One agent.
Whicj, he kinda is.
I remember Talia once looked at Morden and saw him shrouded in darkness, so Lyta may be seeing something similar.
They even have their own little initiation ritual.
One of the benefits of said ritual is that you have an extra seat left after you do it.
If those two groups dislike you, then you've done something right.

Thank you, corrected.
I'd say it's hard to say. Kosh Naranek nearly died to a contact poison, while Ulkesh Kosh shrugged off an entire security division's worth of pulse plasma blasts.

On screen TV show feats only? I would say Stargate non-ascended Ancients. More personal magical power, comparable civilizational feats. Planet busting firepower, extensive meddling with genomes of modern young races, semi-corporeal existence, very limited time travel that might rely on technology of other peer elder races.

They may have just not told him.
The reason they didn't tell him is either because they thought it would freak him out that they can do it, or they just choose not to reveal it to others.
In Star Wars there's a species that has precognition called the Iktochi. Because they can see into the future, a lot of gambling establishments forbid them from participating in their games, even though non-Force using Iktochi lose their powers after leaving their planet.
The Centauri love gambling, so if it's common knowledge that they have some ability to see into the future, a lot of people, specifically gambling people, would be nervous.
It's also just possible that any Centauri he has just don't believe in their prophetic powers.
Kiro didn't believe in his aunt's powers, so the Centauri souls also may be skeptical.

Your own link literally disproves that.
It is one of only two books of the initial novel series
Literally every Centauri has precognitive abilities...
It's just that for the vast majority that manifests in foreseeing their own death.

You didn't read the part where I mentioned that Kiro didn't believe his aunt's prophecy about the Shadows killing him?
